I exclusively use Glenn's script to either install new, upgrade my controllers or to schedule firmware upgrades across all my sites. The script is UNREAL

Both are great. Ubuntu is based on Debian. I would say, go with what you are most comfortable with! I use Ubuntu for everything personally
