This song evolves around the falling of the Berlin wall. The band is from Germany. Also shown was footage from Tiennaman Square when the man confront the military...it was definitely a viewpoint of the world in that era for those of us who had to hide under school desks for drills in school regarding nuclear bombs. This is why the 80s music was so important. It was all pre-internet and the information mainly came from nightly newscasts on tv. This was a crazy reality. The song told the story and talked about the wind of change which was the people who insisted on change and hence the fall of the Soviet Union. Amazing tune for sure! Seen it live while the company I worked for burned to the ground. Crazy time and great tune.
It's just so sad that they can't perform it the regular way anymore, because it doesn't apply. The perestroika is gone, russia is back to their old ways and Europe is at war. It's truly sad that the mad man putin ruined russias future and even worse ruined the future for so many Ukrainians.
It's sad also the fact that communism came out of political ideas with good intentions, regardless of what it actually became and its current association, it was from the noble ideas of clueless intellectuals in Germany, who actually based it on and developed from the principles of the French revolution which also affected Independence movements (anti monarchist) including the USA. Ironically said Revolution is nothing of what popular perception has, it actually, like socialism and communism, was a cesspool of corruption and violence, again in the name of good. If the fall of the Berlin wall was so hopeful, imagine what the Russians felt when they demoted the Czar and started the Soviet Union. They had no idea, the excitement for the future was immense.
Watched all of those historical events unfold as a wide eyed 18 year old. The potential those moments held was overwhelming and inspiring, and this song captured them.
Moskva is the river that runs through Moscow, Russia. Gorky Park (Named after Maxim Gorky, a Russian writer) is a famous amusement park at the banks of the Moskva river. The opening lyrics describe a boat trip taken by the members of Scorpions down the Moskva river in 1988 or 89 during the final years of the Soviet Union. That event actually inspired this song.
Hello Dolly and Jon... This video by the Scorpions contains so many clips from important historical events of the 80s that it is almost impossible to list them all. Starting with the two overlays from Potsdamer Platz in Berlin in 1953, the popular uprising in the GDR, the second German state at that time, and in 1961 when the Berlin Wall was built, scenes from the uprising of the students on the Heavenly Palace in Beijing, China, scenes from the Iraq war , when Gorbachev (RIP) met Pope John Paul II ...and much more. It requires a lot of historical knowledge about the 80's and the beginning of the 90's to interpret and understand the many single-player scenes. At the end, the video shows Potsdamer Platz from 1990 again. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd appeared here and performed the legendary album "The Wall" with the Scorpions, among others. This was also an unforgettable experience, as this place was known at the time as part of the "death strip" of the Berlin Wall. Greetings from Germany the lady PS: English is not my first language, hence the help of google translator. Therefore no guarantee for a really correct translation.
This song is great, but my go to Scorpions song? It will always be Rock you like a hurricane, the zoo or still loving you and I´m sure I forgot a few even better songs. Winds of change is great due to the historic importance, but in my eyes not even in their top ten from a music standpoint
The lyrics refer to the singer taking a stroll around Moscow. The Moskva being the River that gives the city it's name and Gorky Park another major landmark.
My love of the Scorpions' music was one of the reasons why I chose to learn German, whereas my fascination with Rammstein is one of the reasons I'm glad that I did. German music goes so unappreciated sometimes, it's really good.
If I recall correctly this voted song of the century in Germany. There's a stunning live version of this from Hellfest, you can see people openly weeping as they sing along to the song. powerful, so very powerful.
Thanks for your reaction. Sorry for the delay (you recorded this 5 months ago & I recently found your channel). The Moskva=the river that goes through Moscow, Gorki Park=a park along this river in Moscow, where the first protests for change started in the mid-1980's. Scorpions were also the first western band allowed to play in the ex-USSR (the images of the live show in the stadium that you see). & Potsdamer Platz was the place where they built the Berlin wall. You see it at the start of the video (1961) when the soldiers started to build the fence that would become the wall & you also see it in 1990 (Images of the brick wall--taken from Roger Waters show the wall in Berlin. Have a nice day, all of you.
Follow the Moskva Down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change An August summer night Soldiers passing by Listening to the wind of change The world is closing in Did you ever think That we could be so close, like brothers The future's in the air Can feel it everywhere Blowing with the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change Walking down the street Distant memories Are buried in the past, forever I follow the Moskva Down to Gorky Park Listening to the wind of change Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams With you and me Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change The wind of change Blows straight into the face of time Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell For peace of mind Let your balalaika sing What my guitar wants to say Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams With you and me Take me to the magic of the moment On a glory night Where the children of tomorrow dream away In the wind of change 💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥰🌹❤
Great reaction to a great song by a great band. My first concert was Scorpions and Bon Jovi in Rochester, NY. 1984. Humanity is a great song of theirs I've never seen anyone react to.
Looks like the winds of change are starting to take hold in Moscow now! We need the Scorpions on top of the Kremlin singing this song out! Under AK47 fire maybe though?
The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that. LOVE Scorpions. I rock with them, but this my favorite song from them. 10/03/2017 Grand Sierra Resort Reno 😎😎
Moskva is a River leading to the Gorky Park in Moscow. The Song is about Russia giving Germany the allowance to reunite and about the Peace that was in the Air. Thanks to Michael Gorbatschow. President Gorbatschow and German Cancellor Kohl became Friends for live but both died within the last 10 years I was 12 years when East and West Germany reunited and sat in Front of the tv crying.
Gorbachev died in August 2022, the poor man had to see his good work get ruined by putin, he had to see putin sending brothers to kill brothers. "At the end of July 2022, Gorbachev's close friend, journalist Alexei Venediktov, said that Gorbachev was very upset when he found out that Putin had launched an invasion of Ukraine. According to Venediktov, Gorbachev believed that Putin "destroyed his life's work".[520] Gorbachev's interpreter, Pavel Palazhchenko, also stated that Gorbachev was psychologically traumatized by the war before his death"
Klaus meine the god on earth his voice enchants you no one can match your vocal power you are Klaus no one and able to imitate you they just have to bow before you with their heads down...Klaus meine il dio sulla terra la sua voce ti incanta nessuno può eguagliare la tua potenza vocale tu sei Klaus nessuno e capace di imitarti devono solo inchinarsi davanti a te a testa bassa
Jon and Dolly Normally, I don't get political on reactors' channel, but this song is still relevant today! After collapsed of USSR and Berlin Wall torn down in Germany and Eastern Europe. I thought that all craziness has ended. I know that Middle East, China, and North Korea are still hot spots in the world. But today, here in this country, great divide in politics and government. Congress (Both Chambers) are inactive while their citizens wonders, and some suffer of inactions. Big Business pour money for their own benefit. Certain person stated that there will be problems if he gets charged.... another Civil War? I thought history means to learn not to repeat it. I have ancestors who fought in Civil War in the 1860's. My elder family members who were told by them that war was worse than both World Wars because it was fought on American soil! I still have hope for my nieces and nephews as they get older and living in Peace.
I am very grateful to have experienced this time as a young man. The fall of the Berlin Wall, the freedom of nations in Europe. A moment of hope for peace. Unfortunately it didn't come true
My father , who was 18 or 19 at the time, was in Berlin around 1949 during the Berlin Airlift. Many years after he retired from the Army I found photos he had taken while there, including pictures from a concentration camp, I believe it was Dakow, there.
❤️Remember like it was yesterday..I'm from Europe ,we also have a Comunism in our ex Yugoslavia, and yes after Berlin wall was fall dawn other comunist countries are free!We are part of European Union ❤️
This beautiful song is all about when leaders and countries unite. It’s celebrating great moments in history like the end of the cold war and knocking down the Berlin Wall. With idiots like Putin and Xi Jinping running around, we need this song more than ever.
Yes, the Russian children of tomorrow from that time aren't exactly dreaming and winning, rather they are being sent to the front lines to die for a dictator's cause they don't really believe in. Let's hope we can have another moment in history that gives us hope for the future.
Love this group, I had the privilege to see the SCORPION'S in concert what a show. Check out all their songs ! Love your reactions keep them coming 🥰🙏🎶🎶🎶
Two generations of families divided by that wall and the shameless occupation of half a country. At one time nobody would have thought a German could freely walk through Gorky Park.
What you saw are takes from history. That was THE real hymne of tearing down the iron curtain, what the baywatch clown (bad in music ----- ok in acting, too) always wants to sell as his earnings. That's not Hollywood or Malibu, that are real people with dreams, hopes and real lifes. And today, some 30 years later.....🤦
interesting fact but sad due to what's going on politically in Europe ... recent months after 24:e Februari 2022 Scorpions decided to change their lyric by not mentioning Russia in their updated version & just mentioning Ukraine instead to distance themselves from Putin's action against a soverign Country

They followed this big hit song up with another incredibly beautiful ballad: "Send Me An Angel", an incredible song well worth reacting to.

Yes, that is actual whistling. We didn't have computer synthesizers that would do anything like convincing whistling back then

Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change

Did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers
The future's in the air
Can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
Walking down the street
Distant memories
Are buried in the past, forever
I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
The wind of change
Blows straight into the face of time
Like a storm wind that will ring the freedom bell
For peace of mind
Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
