looking to add a tank bag to my K1200RS and came across this video. Fantastic job of showing not only the mount, but also an overview of the bag itself. Extremely helpful and very well done!
Great video with nice explanation of the install. We hope you get a lot of use out of it. If you ever need more space other SW-MOTECH QUICK-LOCK tank bags will fit the same tank-ring. Ride well.
Thank you, Chris. I have been looking for the right bag for my 1200RT LC, and this was exactly the kind of information I needed. Ordering this bag on Revzilla right now.
I‘m using this system for years now, on a variety of motorcycles and with a range of bags. The first version of the system is apparently what they now sell as the Ion series. Depending on what gear you use i prefer the Micro just for the wallet and the phone. And perhaps a pair of spare glasses. All the other stuff is in the sidecases. For me it‘s the perfect way to mount a tankbag, superior to all the magnets and stripes.
I would appreciate if those tank bags were lower but wider profile. They also could wrap around the profile of the tank too, meaning; wrap lower to the sides of any tank, as most tanks are rather longer than wider... It would then create the same amount of space in the bag but maintaining lower profile.... Thanks for the video.
Appreciate the video. Will the bag fit a spare face shield when it is NOT expanded. I like to have a clear one at all times in case I get stuck on the road after sundown.
Wow, SUPER B. This definitely convinced me on what a great model these are. Too bad you aren't getting a commission on these... Your video was quite a bit better than Revzilla and showed WAY MORE DETAIL. I THINK they should HIRE YOU.... hahahaha
I wish they had a better bag for the K1600's. Love the system. It's what BMW should be including like they did on the previous version of the R1200RT's
Great bag clever mount and review. But no lock system - guess you need to remove it or put in the trunk when you leave the bike? For me I'll just keep my trunk lol.
there are cable locks available, but admittedly they are not as secure, in my opinion, as a trunk. Most of the Motech bags have shoulder carrier straps included with the bag.
+Sam Rowland -- good eye-- you are correct, there are 2 rubber "button holes" to take a wire feed of your choice -- there is one on the front of the bag, and one on the back. Additionally, for more money, you can buy a version of this bag that is powered (through the ring) for your phone or other accessory.
A high-quality bag would have been nice to put the cable hole at the front of the bag & a window to hold a phone. That & the price of the tank clip was a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the video Chris.
Julio Lopez there are two potential issues that are most likely the culprit. The first is to make sure you installed the EVO ring and not the ION ring. Secondly you may have installed it upside down. If both of these are correct, then I would make sure you bought the correct EVO non-powered ring. Also make sure that the cap wasn't left open during the install as the lock will reset after a few minutes. Regardless , if the ring is the special keyless ring , just run through your install and I bet you will find the problem.
Chris On the Street, thank you for your response. I originally installed both rings steel and plastic, I removed both reinstalled the plastic one, but no luck. I do have a keyless set up, dealer made sure of that. And I thought, that I would have issues with the drilling portion😡
Chris On the Street, I took ring off and installed original bike torx screws back on, to see what the problem is, but I'm still having that issue. Gas Latch doesn't shut, it pops right back😡
Julio Lopez so if the cap can swing open and closed but simply won't latch (so I assume you can lift the cap lever and when you let it go it seats down fully on the cap itself). I personally have to press the cap down onto its rubber seal on the tank while I hold the latch tan up then while holding down on the cap I can let go of the little tab and it will click locked. However, feel free to message me privately With photos close up of your tank or alternately I can send you a message with a close up of mine which works perfectly.
Julio Lopez ok so it is the gas cap ring. Make sure your filler assembly is not cocked after removing the bolts on your initial install. If the tongue is protruding out of the cap but just won't catch when you press it down, then remove and reinstall each torx bolt one at a time and torque them to spec them retry. If the tongue is not protruding then it's an electric issue which I would try to reset by restarting the bike.
You will need BMW Part Number 61122338491. If your iPod has a more recent firewire connector instead of the older 30 pin wide connector, you will also need a 30pin to firewire adapter which you can buy from Apple. BMW does not yet offer a firewire cable as of Aug 2016. When you buy such an adapter, buy as short a cable as possible due to the limited space in the compartment. My iPod nano is the older style 1" x 1" with the wide connector, so it all fits with lots of space.
+Chris On the Street Hello Chris. I ordered the iPod cable today and to my surprise, BMW is now offering an updated cable using the smaller "FireWire' connection found on the newer Apple products. It's BMW part # 61122408012. Thanks for your great videos. It's very much appreciated.
In the UK they have a different design for attaching the bag to your bike for this exact tank bag. No need to drill holes, as the bag has a ratchet system on the bottom of the bag which then allows you to slide the bag back and forth. The reason they came out with the ratchet system is because adding another device in front of the bag and on the bike or buying a different bike would then mean having to re-drill the holes in order to mount the bag again. Here’s the RUclips link. ruclips.net/video/79o68B9RKRs/видео.html
Pisses me off that I don’t have a gas hole or a tank. My tank is under my seat and my tank is an air box. Maybe I’ll modify my air box plastics so I can have a tank lock. Until then it’s straps for me.
Has anybody else had problems with this setup causing the horn to blow when making sharp left turns like when dead stop for walking it around and parking .
Anyone else have problems with this thing jamming? I ride gravel a lot and the dust causes the release cable to jam, I've had to take everything out and unbolt the bag to get gas in the bike a few times....also didnt particularly enjoy drilling holes in the bag as soon as I got it, youd think for the price the bag would come with a mounting plate pre installed
+Maik Richter no, the thread compound is my own. I use Blue Loctite in the new "gel" tube, easier to apply and very inexpensive. You can buy it at most hardware stores. The Bag comes with the receiver on the bottom, the drill bit, mounting screws for the receiver, the drill template, a removable shoulder strap, a storage bag, and the tether for the actuator cable on the receiver. The Bag does not come with the tank ring and its screws/collars.
+Chris On the Street thx for you'r fast answer. its a helpful video for me, because i bought it too. with this video i don't have to worrying about doing somthing wrong :D . thank you. and i hope you can understand my english. (i'm from germany) ^^
Excellent video, clearly spoken, no music just straight to the point, love it, thank you.

I have been shopping around, this convinced me. Thanks dude!

Looks Great, thanks for the Video, have been thinking of getting this system for My 2014 RT.
Wow. Fantastic video. Very informative and thorough. Thanks Chris.
Phenomenally informative and useful review - helped me make a purchase decision. Well done. Subscribed.

GREAT!!! Great review my friend, i will get the same one, thank you for the video.
Is there a port to run a charging cable into the bag? Nice vid, by the way.
yes-- see 5:15
Exceptional review. Thank you!

Awesome video and information, which Evo bag did you have in this video?
Thank You
Tony
This is the Daypack bag
@@kiki231000 thank you now I can decide which brand and style to put on my 16RT

I saw what appeared to be a way to feed a cable IE phone charger in the rear of the bag..is there one in the front too?

Chris, I just installed the City SW-Motech model to my 2016 keyless RT, now I can't close gas cap. It will not latch in place. Any ideas.

I'm having trouble finding a specific cable to connect an iPod to my 2016 R1200RT. Why is this cable so elusive? Where can I purchase such an item??

But then you wouldn't be able to adjust it perfectly for YOUR particular bike. Sucks about the jamming though, I've heard that happen before.
Does the ring sit flush with the tank? My ring does not.
ken KERLIN no the ring sits up about 1cm. It cannot sit flush otherwise the bag wouldn't be able to connect to it.
Would this work on the grand america?
i purchased this one to from Twisted Throttle. You may want to check with them or their website for fitment
Great review just purchased one. You should bottle your voice and sell it. 😁
comes the thread locker with the bag?

:D thx
Too wide, touches the horn button when you turn left.
if yours touches the horn button, then you didn't install it correctly.
