Unless you are using something like a band saw (or measuring each & every cork exactly before cutting it) it is impossible to get each cork cut the exact same length. Having the corks different sizes will make the mat uneven and you will end up spilling your drink. (at least I know I would)

you failed to specify that wine corks are very difficult to cut, you need to boil them for 10 min and the cut it, its safer and easier
