Layers are very in right now, garment over garment of the same type. You can layer a navy, yellow, or other color mock neck rayon jersey long sleeve and have the navy sleeve poke out under the white.
I love the dress! It looks fantastic on you. I’m just watching sewing videos right now. Mentally I’m not into sewing right now. I just found out yesterday I have cancer of the gallbladder and bile ducts. I’m not sure how far it has spread and that has me little crazy right now. Just appreciate your prayers for me.
I will pray for you. Your mind must be in absolute turmoil now - I hope you don't have to wait too long before you have a plan in place for treatment. Best wishes to you.
Your dress is beautiful!! I bought some double sided fabric from Vogue fabrics and made a Sinclair Harper cardigan type jacket. Used a pattern for woven fabric. It turned out great. With a different piece of double sided fabric I made the Great Copy Malibu Top View A. I'm sure whatever you make will be stunning. As for sewing, I have 7 grandsons from 8 years to 19 years old. I always make a pair of pajama bottoms for them, always using a different pattern. And my one granddaughter is getting a color blocked (3 fabrics) hoodie and sweat pants. Adult girls are getting the Lisa cardigan from Seamworks and my son is getting 2 hoodies. I have never sewn a hoodie so I will see how that goes. Anyway, I can't wait to see your makes.
I feel for you with your fluctuating weight due to medical issues. My mom had severe asthma and was on and off steroids depending on what her asthma was doing. Therefore she had 2 full wardrobes of clothes. One for when she was off steroids (her “skinny clothes”). And another for when she was on steroids (“her big clothes”). You sew such gorgeous clothes you make, I wish my mom could have had such beautiful clothes for her 2 wardrobes. I’m sure it’s very hard to deal with fluctuating body shapes, I’m so impressed you are able to share your challenges in your life and in your sewing. It really helps others (yes, me) keep on going despite health challenges and to realize that we all have fails in our sewing journeys. May you be blessed with better health and all you need to keep sharing your kindness with all of us who love you💝
Love your Destasify fabrics, I been on site multiple times have items in my wish list. I need to take the plunge and order. You always have such great finds. Thanks for sharing your ideas and makes.
Oh, the Barn Jacket…can’t wait to see it complete! Any chance seeing you doing some of the sewing on this project? Would love to see how you hack the pattern to include all the details you describe.
Love the dress! I think you made the right choice in size with this one; I love how the dress fits you. I'm looking forward to seeing the jackets next month 🙂
Hi Whitney! Your dress is gorgeous, you look very nice in it, very pulled together, a wonderful classic style. I made a similar booboo as your Kenwin with a thin white French terry fabric, barely see through, I made my first toaster sweater out of. It's very soft but too see through alone and looks strange with anything layered under it and too bulky to wear anything over it. I wear it while cleaning at home. I'm excited you are planning on making a jacket from that Style Arc Delphine. I just bought it and printed it out. My idea is to make the very basic plain version in a blue twill for a wearable muslin and then I have pink plaid suiting that I'll make a more fancier dressed up version with some trim and fancy buttons, and a skirt to go with. I think your ideas for using that wonderful fabric will be so fun. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
So good glad to see you enjoying your sewing! I also had made up the Kenwin knit shirt but in a beautiful, dark teal bamboo cotton Lycra from Discovery Fabrics, so it wasn’t see-through, but it was a bit thin and a bit tight. I was disappointed, but was able to gift it to my daughter-in-law who it fit very well!
You have been a very busy sewing bee! I love your dress and you look very chic in it. The downtown jacket is a great pattern and yes! You could line the sleeve since they are not a drafted too close to the body. Im doing something similar as you and in the process of lining the sleeves. Cant wait to see your soon❤
So excited for you! You are infectiously thrilled about your sewing right now and I really enjoyed it. I am torn about the Welsh wool - it calls for a more formal style but I think if you are going to do the two colour halves then you should go more simple in details. Particularly when you mentioned your cargo pants, it made me think more casual rather than all the details. Maybe two simple pockets in the opposite colour?
For your one jacket, I would suggest leaving off the chest pockets, just put the lower pockets on. I am currently making sweaters - cardigans and pullovers. Sweater knits are fun to work with!! This is my first year doing so. I'm even going to attempt a sweater dress.
The treason why a lot of women get their diagnosis for autoimmune conditions such as MS, crohn’s, RA etc around 40 is not because they only develop then but because at that age we tend to worsen in symptoms to the point where we get more assertive about our medical care. I have had a swollen belly for years, talking 4-6 inches bigger than it should be so I look pregnant and I have gotten used to sewing around it. Still hate being asked when I am due though so ease is very important for me. I think you look fabulous and your dress is amazing on you. You look beautiful in it!
That top you can wear as a layer. And if you don't like the wrap part, make front and back with the plain part, since it fits either way around. I love the dress! It's perfection! Hugs!
I always struggle to fit to my size when there's no finished garment measurements. I hear you on measurements changing. That dress looks lovely on you.
I can’t get my sew-Jo back. I finished a couple of fleece pants for my son for lounging and since then I can’t seem to get inspired. I’m retired and truthfully don’t get out much unless my husband takes me somewhere. We live in a rural area and it’s a half hour walk to our nearest shop, seeing as I have trouble with one of my hips and flat feet 😂 which makes walking any distance but short I don’t need any more autumn and winter clothes. I’m going to London for Christmas and thinking of making a midi dress in a red flowered fabric in my stash, I’m too old for a funny Christmas sweater. Best wishes from the U.K.
Love the Delphine (StyleArc) pattern. I think with your idea for using both sides of your fabric you should keep the cut simple as possible (functional pocket inside if you line, no pockets outside) but I imagine the weave of your fabric with self fringe would be amazing! Good luck with the cutting! Sewing will be easy once you get it cut. ❤❤❤
I think, based on how I perceive your aesthetic, you should make the jacket without any pockets. I think the pockets on the print/plaid, especially if u want to do the half & half look, would be perfect and would let the fabric be the star. I might be inclined to add a solid binding, in one of the colours, just to unify the look. Cant wait to see it.
That dress is absolutely beautiful. I love the fabric and it looks stunning on you. We are visiting my son this Christmas. He lives in New Zealand. I have made 2 satin dressing gowns, one for my daughter in law and one for her mum (we are spending some time with them over Christmas and New year}. I've also made matching dresses and rompers for 2 of my granddaughters and grandson (mum likes them to look the same). For myself, during November, I am making a silk dress I shall be wearing for Christmas day. I have given myself the whole of November to make it - not sure how many toils I will have to make before I cut out my precious fabric.
Beautiful dress, Whitney and the fabric is amazing. At some point, would you speak a little bit more about the specifics of buying and selling fabrics on destashify? Not asking you to do a free commercial for the site, but the whole thing confuses me because there aren't many sites that really give you all the details, especially for ones that are US based. Thank you sew much!
The dress looks soo good on you. Can't wait to see the style arc jacket. I like the look of the 4 pockets but maybe will be too much up top? And the barn jacket will be so good. I am sewing for myself - lounge wear and shirts.
Your dress turned out beautifully! It not only fits perfectly it is just lovely on you. Your idea for the Delphi jacket sounds so fun! My choice would be with the pocket flaps but no collar . Love the ideas for the Downtown jacket too. I always make my grandkids pjs for Christmas, hope I can this year. Eye surgery has had me out of my sewing room for the last 6 months 😕but hopefully soon I’ll be back!
I've been eyeing that Style Arc jacket, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it works for you! I love the version with pockets and the one with just the pocket flaps, but based on what you usually like best, the plain one may be the way to go! I'm hoping to get the Closet Core Jenna shirt made up in some grey herringbone flannel I got from Core Fabrics.
I always check finished measurements and size up or adjust if necessary. My mum always used to say that my clothes were too big. She liked to wear very fitted clothes, but I've always preferred more ease.
I love your Vivi Shirtdress. It looks great on you. I so want to make a shirtdress. I attempted the Love Notions Aria shirdress but it wasn't a good look - too boxy. I've made several Aria buttondown shirts and love them. I appreciate your tips on sizing for the Vivi. The outfit your wearing in the video is very cute too.
I'm making flannel pj/playsuits for my 9 mo.-old grandbaby! Going today to pick up mu sewing machine from repair. It had seized up. What makes that happen? Hugs! Peggy
Great plans and the dress is really cool - too bad about the top; I have some thinner knits that make me wonder "what was I thinking?!?" Some of them wind up as lining material for other projects. Hope your inflammation subsides so you can really enjoy your November sewing. I'm hoping to make Xmas aprons for two great-nieces and also really hoping to make something - anything - for myself 😄.
I really love the Delphine, had not looked at it in depth, though. I purchased a couple pieces of knit cable design in denim blue several years ago from Mood, think I have 1 1/2 yards, it would be cut in this jacket. Thanks for the inspiration.
I just took a look at pattern by Style Arc! Very nice; I like that scalloped front. I think using the two sides of the fabric will be awesome! Sewing… I want to see a faux cashmere knit I found. I plan to make a low hip length jacket. Then I have shirts to make. I’m knitting or sewing for all my 4 grandkids🥰 Currently, I knitting an Emotional Support Chicken as a gag gift for my older grandson who raises chickens! It will be wearing his scarf😊 I have a hoodie style jacket I knitted for my youngest grandson; I plan to line it at least body and hood. Maybe a slick lining for sleeves now that I’ve heard your plans😊
Love the pattern picks. Do you think the Delphine jacket would work with boiled wool. You need a lining, but I know the sewing techniques are different. I am a bit concerned about the extra seams in the back.
We are on the puffy bandwagon together. Fills out my wrinkles however. Yes, love the Ralph Lauren vibes. Wondered about the bra coverage on the top, thanks.
I was with a friend in a fabric store that I won’t name, not a chain, and purchased what was labeled 100% wool. She wanted to felt the fabric, so she bought plenty. It wouldn’t felt. She knows a lot about fibers. So she did the burn test… yes, it melted😡 I was like her, really surprised. Do you test fabrics if you question content before you cut? I love you dress! I love vintage buttons. I have a stash going, getting close to hoarding fabric and buttons😳
My colour eye says that the greener side of the plaid fabric is not bright enough for you. Before you cut your lady jacket, look at the colours against your skin in daylight fom a distance. Your rdt cardi has more balanced colourschemes on each side.
Love your dress! The sizing on you is perfect!! can you add a ling to the front piece of the top so it won't be see through? On the jacket, I wouldn't want pockets on top of my boobs (doesn't look good on me LOL) but add the bottom big pockets. On the barn jacket, you could add topstitching to match the suede collar.
7:15 Beautiful dress and it looks really nice on you. Also, have you searched for a Natural way to reduce your inflammation? So many people rely on these chemical meds instead of figuring out what's causing the problem in their body's. After paying attention to problems with my body, I realized that artificial coloring is my enemy. I stopped putting that stuff in my body and I haven't seen or talked to a doc in YEARS.
@@Seams_in_the_Wild Way to go!😃 Our body's let us know that it does not like what we are putting in it. We just have to pay attention and avoid those bad things. Chemicals of any kind are NOT safe for our bodies. The natural approach is best.

The blue outfit you are wearing is very flattering.
Love both. Wear the top with the wrap in front, but with a same-color cami underneath...I think that would look great on you!
I didn’t know that oversized is in right now. I made an oversized chambray button up shirt. So chic!
Really love that dress. It looks fantastic on you.

I love the dress! I toyed with buying the pattern during the summer and didn’t-now I will definitely grab the dress pattern. So cute!
You look so beautiful in that dress. It fits you perfectly. I’d do the plain orange jacket, it’s a busy pattern.
I made that dress too!! Yours fits you so nice❤❤❤
Suggestion…….make a lace tee to wear under the shirt
I love the pants you're wearing ❤

Your cashmerette top could you put a 2 nd layer on the front to increase opacity?
I'm familiar with water weight, good luck with the new medicine!
I would wear a lace or lace trimmed cami under the draped front of the Kenwin.
I love the shirt!! I looked at there website and didn’t see it. Is it not available for everyone?
Really think Lady jackets can be dressy or casual with cords or jeans 🎉

Great shirt dress

Why not dye the kenwin?
Mabye you can dye the cashmerette top a darker colour? Could be more wearable then :)
How is Joyce's husband doing??
The dress is lovely! :+)
You could dye the t-shirt a darker color to make it less see through.
Make the jacket very plain .the pattern will speak for itself.. yes swop the fabric ..’right side ..wrong side ‘ but no pockets etc.
