@PricklyAlpaca I've even tried that technique with poscas on fabric, you just iron it a bit on the backside, works great on some fabrics, less on others heh, it's a trial and error at times and sometimes fun effects happen from it! (Like your flame two piece) Hope u can figure something out! 🤞
I second ironing! I made my husband & I matching concert tees and ironed them right-side out with a pressing cloth (cheesecloth) on top and then again inside out. They've only been worn & washed twice so far but the paint & marker is intact except for the glitter effect (😢). Bleach can eat the fabric, so I would do the bleach stuff, then dunk shirt in water, then wring out & dunk in hydrogen peroxide, then wring out & water again (3 bucket system, 2 are water).
that’s so sick!! would definitely recommend making a tree bookshelf, tree/ moss rug, tiny mouse/frog house, giant button/leaf chair, plant lanterns, or a worm on a string scarf
Very relieved this video had the redemption arc it deserved. The pen may not have worked right, but I love the eye shirt just as much as the moth shirt and celestial shorts (the Ceaseless Watcher aesthetic helps a lot). Always thrilled to see you create... anything, really!
It's funny, I'm looking at your clothes and thinking, meh, not to my taste, but also thinking that if I saw you out and about wearing them, I would be delighted, because wouldn't the world be an awesome place if we all wore our super weird handmade creations all the time? 😊
i love how your content is so real. you don't mind showing your mistakes and your processes. and the stuff you do is even accessible to those of us who aren't artists. (and you know how to style a tshirt!) keep being real!
the song you played when you were bleaching the eye shirt i think is the main beat that Simccl used for his song Jort storm i would recommend it because it is too funny
i love your cloud skirt :0 its so pretty!!! i think with thrifted and second hand stuff, sometimes it doesn't bleach or take dyes well because it's taken a lot of detergent and softener build up over the years. i saw a tumblr post a week ago by prismatic-bell about how to kind of "reset" your clothes with a thing called laundry stripping where you put your clothes with warm water, half a cup of borax, half a cup of washing soda, and half a cup of laundry soap and then you leave it for 8+ hours and you put it in the dryer or hang to dry it i haven't yet tried it myself but it sounds really promising :0
kira is my spirit animal. officially. i can’t even tell you how much i am feral for this person. everything she posts is perfect even if it’s not as planned or of the best quality. i just love what she does
GIRL. I literally just did my first bleach art a couple days ago (classic skeleton style lol)!!! We love a good magic chemical + style points ps: you used the jort storm song oh my gosh
I'm so glad you tested them which so many people online do not! I've been very suprised when trifted t shirts of mine go some odd colours. E.g. a burgundy t shirt which when tested it went army green. I quite like using waterbrushes with diluted bleach. Worked super well without me needing to keep dipping a brush/risking drips getting everywhere. Edit: also beware too many bleach fumes in a small space. Open lots of windows or have a go outside.
thank you for humbling my imagination of how nice it would be to bleach clothes myself djhasja the AUDACITY of me to think that "oh that looks easy itll be fine" - thank you for sharing even your problems with this project, if i ever tackle something similar I'll keep some of this in mind lol!! but also: (I was wrapping gifts while watching so i mightve missed if you did this) people dilute their bleach to get different values!! they don't layer 100% bleach on top of one another but rather work from darkest to lightest wash while increasing the concentration :) ♥
This video was an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every second of it! I really ended up liking the eyeball shirt and the fire set! Would love to see you paint on some more clothing someday, it's really entertaining to watch you struggle yet somehow still succeed after all the disaster

When I was using bleach on clothes, I carved my own stamps, loaded the bleach on them and stamped once, reloaded and did it again. That might have been a massive time saver if you ever do another shirt with a repeated pattern on it. I really see the teeth boots with the eyeball shirt!!!
As a custom clothing artist, even when bleaching use a light white base coat for the colours to pop especially if the bleach hasn't lightened the fabric enough. The light white base coat is always used on dark fabrics and dark denim. And always heat set the paint afterwards. You did an amazing job though I always love you're work!
some tips I have seen online if you do this again/anyone else is inspired: if your liquid bleach is bleeding in the fabric, you can also find bleach in gel forms in common cleaning supplies! The example I saw was bleach toilet bowl cleaner, but keep an eye out for other materials with bleach in them for different effects (and for sure always be ready to adapt !! bleach is a tricky mistress)
8:03 I think the Jort Storm brainrot is getting worse, that was the first thought that popped into my head when the music started- References aside, these turned out so frickin cool :0
The process is adorable! I enjoyed identifying with your struggle. I have always flown into new projects barely knowing anything about tools, techniques or process. Sometimes amazing things have resulted. Sometimes not.
Is it just me or does the Bg music for the first Timelapse with the eyeball shirt sound like Jort Storm-by Charlie Slimesicle (such a banger go listen to it)
These are so awesome! Love the way this turned out! I actually really like the more experimental more casual vibes of this video. While your cosplays and costumes are obviously amazing, they don't always feel that do-able. Videos like these are really inspiring and also simple enough to want to try yourself. I'm feeling very inspired and very capable to take on a project like this, so thanks for that!
Love your channel and content! ❤ I’m probably not your average subscriber. I’m a 52 mom but I love how you just go for it! You remind me of my daughter. Totally relate to your sense of humor. You really inspire me to be more creative! 😊
when working with bleach i find it helpful to use a thick bleach rather than a runny one and a thinner brush than you think you need to counteract bleeding
This is an interesting idea, I like how the flaming tank top/skirt combo came out for you. If I were to try this, I'd probably do some Spider related designs.
I make bleach tshirts and a great tip would be to use a 1:1 ratio of bleach and water, the more bleach the stronger it'll brighten the fabric so if you want a gradient try different ratios of bleach to water :)
I found your channel trough a sketchbook tour and subscribing was like the best decision I’ve ever made (on the internet). I love your channel and content! And we just match. Somehow our aesthetics are the exact same lol
This makes me want to try out more 'older' or classical looking pieces for my own costume work! I have only made a few of outfits I've drawn into real wearable outfits and I'm curious to see what more I could pull off after watching this! Also HELL YEAH! THRIFT STORES ARE THE BEST!!!
This has now inspired me to take out some of my old black cotton Ts and cover them in candles and eyeballs with bleach for October. (Also I wanna try doing eyeball bleach socks!) TBH I love all the content you put out it's just fun seeing what you come up with whether it's artwork, sewing or making cool stuff! Remember to take care of yourself too mental health is important!! We love the weekly / biweekly content but don't forget to take care of yourself too! I'd love to also see the occasional sketchbook sessions come back or maybe some art videos where you do some stuff for yourself too! (Like they don't have to be super crazy character designs but you could do some of your oc stuff too!) If you are looking for a crafty idea maybe trying embroidery on some thrifted clothing?
Quick tip: If you find yourself working with real wool (or real silk; expensive, but thrift stores have wild finds sometimes), do not use bleach. Wool and silk are protein fibres and bleach will dissolve them, as seen in the 'bleach test' for fibre identification.
To get the level of whitening and range of colors you want, try fabrics that are heathered colors on cotton/poly blends - 60/40 or 65/35 cotton to polyester. Dark and medium heather grey will lighten better than solid black which usually turns orange to pinkish at best. You can use an iron to speed up the bleach action by laying a pressing cloth over the bleach design and pressing, Then either do another round of bleach painting, or soak in hydrogen peroxide and water for 10 minutes, rinse in clear water and line or machine dry to do more painting later. Black dyed cotton is a challenge to get lighter than orangy pink/peach because of the dyes used to make the black.
It was really cool to see the progress and trial on this project. The moth shirt looks so dynamic! I think it would be cool to revisit these techniques again or expand on them maybe with more home decor items like a wall tapestry art piece or something of that nature. ✨✨
Tbh I here for the chaos goblin ride that I wish I could go on myself ✨ gives me the encouragement to just do it, have fun, and experience makeing something. “Succeeding” or “failing” isn’t really apart of that equation 🍀
I know this isn't for clothing, but I would love to see you making some stained glass pieces. And I'm talking the 'simple' ways, ones that aren't expensive and won't end up making you get cut up. I think they would be really cool also if you made them fit in with your whimsical room. I would love to see the designs you create.
Soo nice! I tried something very similar a couple of years back on a dress, the result was so bad that I dyed it back to black the next day. But yours came out 🤌💋
i loveeeeee all of the fun thrifting and chaotic maker vibes in this video - so so glad you are here having fun on this platform. unrelated to bleach adventures, but the midliner pastel highlighters that popped up in the ad portion are AMAZING. both for cute pastel artsy journalling and chaotic colorful sketchbook times. 10/10 will buy more once i've finished the several i already have! just wanted to put that out there lol
Great video, absolutely love, while you're painting the first black button up shirt I am so sorry but I could only hear jort storm during that and for the rest of the video I could only think of magical jorts? Like jorts but if you touched them and magicked them into being mushrooms?
the people that get those layers in color dilute their bleach a bit before putting it on. It's the same principle as a wash😊 I made some bleach T shirts for Halloween last year. I used those wooden signs from the dollar tree & either sprayed around them or sprayed them to do a block print effect. They came out really awesome in the end
I don’t know…you’re keeping me young though Kara, and now I’m in the know (I’ve been very caught up in trying to learn to crochet on here lately), but now I have to try this! 🤗
These turned out awesome!! I was thinking about painting my crust pants with bleach and now I've gotten a sign from the universe lol Also, next time you put a flash warning also be sure to add a time to skip to so people know when the flashing is over :)
I love how the flame outfit finally worked out, it looks great, I think the eyeball shirt turned out better for adding the colour to the eyeballs on some of them, the thing with any paint pens is they need to be heat set, your heat gun should work as well as the iron. The moth tee I just love it, it’s the cream of the crop for sure as well as the little mini you wore with it. Both of them turned out stunning. I would love to see you do the painted items, I love the way you approach your ideas with the no idea it allows you the freedom to just got for it come hell or high water. Just keep being you and things will defiantly always shout out I’m hers 🤗🤗🤗
It might be that the fabric marker needed to be set with heat before washing! That has helped in a lot of my projects
I'll try that next time! It didn't have any instructions so I wasn't sure if I needed to do anything prior to washing 😅
@PricklyAlpaca I've even tried that technique with poscas on fabric, you just iron it a bit on the backside, works great on some fabrics, less on others heh, it's a trial and error at times and sometimes fun effects happen from it! (Like your flame two piece)
Hope u can figure something out! 🤞
Oooh I've done the posca shirts to! I will say though the fabric can tear up the nibs on poscas
Ive generally found that sort of thing (and sharpie/permanent marker) need ironing to set well.
I second ironing! I made my husband & I matching concert tees and ironed them right-side out with a pressing cloth (cheesecloth) on top and then again inside out. They've only been worn & washed twice so far but the paint & marker is intact except for the glitter effect (😢).

I love the eyeball shirt! I don't think it gives off homemade vibes, but it gives off horror manga vibes!
Also that moth shirt is ❤❤❤❤ amazing!
