Ahmad Faraz, born as Syed Ahmad Shah on January 12, 1931, in Kohat, emerged from a Pashtun Syed family to become one of the most celebrated poets in Urdu literature. Influenced by iconic poets such as Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Ali Sardar Jafri, Faraz carved his niche with ghazals that not only captured the essence of human emotions but also reflected the socio-political landscapes of his times. Despite facing adversities, including arrest and exile for his outspoken poetry during General Zia-ul-Haq's regime, Faraz's work continued to inspire and evoke, earning him accolades including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.
The ghazal "Jis Simt Bhi Dekhoon" is a tribute to Faraz's enduring legacy, beautifully rendered by Kashif Din, with Dr. Karim Gillani’s evocative composition bringing a fresh perspective to the timeless words.
