I watched a video the other day of a girl re-designing the G3 characters and she explained why now Frankie has to be blue. Basically Universal or Warner (Can’t remember which lol) holds the rights to Frankenstein and they have rules for Frankenstein designs that aren’t theirs which are the following: they can’t have green skin, can’t have bolts in their neck, can’t have a scar on their forehead and can’t have black w white streaks hair. Why were these rules not followed before?? Bc the company actually owned the rights to Monster High alongside Mattel and so they were in the safe zone. Now tho, they’ve changed owners and the designers have had figured out ways to dodge the copyright
The reason why frankie is no longer green and doesn't have neck bolts is pretty much for copyright reasons since g3 has partnered with nickelodeon, nickelodeon cannot use the green skin and neck bolts or something idk, that's what I heard
I’m so pleased with the amount of accessories provided in G3. As a collector I’ve struggled with the hoard of plastic brushes and stands from different doll brands including MH. The stands provided take up too much space height wise on a shelf, and the brushes, create static electricity in the hair. I’ve sent boxes full of stands to other collectors who use them, donated them (not knowing if the charity would know what the stands are or what to do with them). In the future, if stands and brushes are included, I hope a recycling symbol that is recyclable in most regions is included. Great review 👏🏻.
agreed, and while stands can be convenient this allows for a bigger variety of mix and match accessories and clothing items for the doll, and for collectors who do use stands to make their space more cohesive by getting their own that works for their space, and not getting tossed into landfills for kids/people who don’t
Hello! Just a quick note on sealant if people new to doll customization need some for the doll body paint - "Mr super Clear UV cut flat" is the best for dolls, as it doesn't yellow over time, it gives a nice surface, doesn't get sticky or shiny, lasts well, doesn't lighten designs through build up, all that jazz! However, it does take some safety precautions when using, which can't really be read on the can as there usually isn't an english translation, so please everybody make sure to only spray outside or in an extremely well ventilated area, always spray away from yourself, and please please always wear a really good filtration mask if you're planning on doing a lot of it! I use it all the time and its great but just gives me a lot of anxiety about breathing in particles, so - be safe out there everyone! 🤗 Also, quick edit, if I'm remembering correctly you should spray it at about a 30 cm distance from the doll so it gives a nice even coat :)
I'm getting into MH and RH customizations and repaints, I would never use Mr Super Clear, it is a very moody sealant (it hates behaving in humidity, or cold and will become tacky after a week or so depending on the weather). Also you REALLY need a full respirator as that stuff will mess up your lungs if you breathe in even a bit of it (have heard horror stories) a 95 mask is not enough and keep it away from wildlife and or pets, it can kill them (don't spray on grass where animals go). I am experimenting with Liquitex matte sealer applying with a damp sponge, its non toxic and rumor has it much easier to use.
Yess! Also, check out Dollightful for excellent beginner friendly advice. There are so many great customizers in this community, but so much of her content is made specifically with beginners in mind. Also, if anyone needs inspiration, Moonlight Jewel did some epic BJD resin redesigns of the main 6 MH characters in honor of the reboot and they are glorious!!
i don’t think that G3 wants to “fit” in G1 at all. I think it’s creating something new and a name for itself because it took all the characters and made them more interesting and so much different for a new generation of kids. yet their message it’s still the same, be yourself, be unique, be a monster 💜
but why more interesting? each g1 character came with diaries with backstories that complemented others, g3 only has some information in the box and the animated series is for children between 04 and 11 years old :/
The box is now shaped like a headstone instead of a coffin lol Franklin also looks more like Abbie now because of the blue skin and white/ blue hair, oh plus the sharp angular face
Thank you for addressing the paint not being sealed I think their “quality” is actually REALLY good not a fan of ALL the designs but course the ones I do like all have paint on their body and now I need sealant which I feel is unexceptional I’m not a doll customizer I don’t just have it on hand nor do o want to buy it after buying dolls and I can’t see parents just buying these for kids being happy bout this either
I like the proportions on these new dolls much more. Little more like an actual teenager. I just wish the lips were red or a darker blue. The light pink looks a little off on her to me
Me too. The G1 dolls look like they got flattened by a pick-up truck, which really rubbed me the wrong way back then. Now they've got more volume - and varying heights between each of them, for crying out loud - I'm lots more interested in the line!
That was the biggest issue I had with Monster High when it first came out: They all looked like their backs got run over by a car. So glad the designers gave them more volume for this new generation!

when i got my g3 frankie, their blush was extremely bright pink :( it was visible from across my room, i ended up removing it as best i could and i prefer it a lot. it must’ve been a printing thing because yours looks so so much better 😭😭
Really, Jay is objectively one of the best MH RUclipsrs ‘cause he’s not out here trying to infantilize children. Seriously, if someone had pulled that crap when I was that age, I would have exploded. (And specifically when I was growing up, Nicktoons had genocide and alien organ harvesting so…) Hell, that’s exactly why I never got any of the dolls as a kid, I thought it’d be all cutesy and them being monsters would be nothing more than a gimmick. You’d think someone would tell those a-holes who treat kids like that would be aware just the sheer act of including queer characters is still considered inherently “inappropriate” to most Karens, but then again, that would force them to realize they’re in the wrong. Side note, why’s everybody acting like Watzie is different? What do y’all call your pets?
I just got G3 frankie with some Christmas monies and I’m so excited to finally have a MH doll! I love the prosthetic leggy and their color scheme! I wanna do some light custom work to bring out some details in the leg and belt, and add some neck bolts and more scars I think. Such a cute doll! The Watzie that came with mine had a pixel face, so I’m gonna give him some touch ups too.
my g3 frankie actually has clear blue sunglasses I also hav 2 g3 draculauras from different batches & I realized that the first one I got has foggy matte sunglasses & my newer one has shinier clear ones I'm not sure if it's a material change or they didn't put some kind of sealant? on the earlier batches
I really love that with Frankie being out as a non-binary character that the color scheme of their look includes the trans pride flag colors. Someone had mentioned in another video that G3 Frankie has a lot more pink than their previous iterations and I agree with this review, that this is the reason, expressing their trans/non-binary pride.
i think the blue is because of Universal? i am not sure now, but if i remember correctly, Universal has some rules about making Frankenstein charactes - ex. they cant have the bolts, green skin etc. so i think that is the reason, Universal basicaly copyrighted the original appearemce
I think that rumor is like debunked already. They still did get to release green Frankie in Haunt Couture line. Also Monster High New Ghoul at School was premiered in Nickelodeon way back several years ago and there were no issues then. I believe their changing of skin tone was just their decision.
Mixed feelings about the clothes and accessories being higher quality but no stands or diary. No hair brush is okay cause those frizz up the hair bad sometimes. But I know stands are fairly cheap to buy but I miss all the dolls coming with different bases like black for standard, silver for Boo York the super unique Haunted one etc

(No shade to Duce just not a big boy/male presenting doll colletor here) Also want the basic/budget Frankie (love the dress, gives their og dress but with blue & pink), the goreganizer Draculaura, I NEED THE HOLIDAY/WINTER DRACULAURA (GORGEOUS GODDESS), and depending on price possibly the two pack of Frankie & Duce because Frankie's look is FIRE! Im trying (but failing) to pace myself because Bratz is also coming for my wallet right now (Just ordered 2 of all of S2 of the repros minus Dylan, The Girls Nite Out 21st editions & the Cult Gaia collector dolls) but this is also my birthday month (10/24) so when I saw everything drop I was like screw smart financial decisions I'm turning 27 and I'm depressed give me the dolls!

I honestly think frankiestein New design in the Nickelodeon show she took a lot of inspiration from from Venus Mcflytrap she shows a lot of similarities in hair design and the streaks which I love cause Venus is so underrated

Frankie is the best doll imo. Their outfits are so good. This one and the two-pack ar my favorite. Draculaura is second.
