Hello Hans, I have been looking for flat lead substitute wire because we are not allowed to use lead in Maine. The loons were being poisoned to distinction. I have been unable to find it. Can you check your distributors to see if it is available. There is only one fly shop in my area and they have the round but not the flat. I have flattened it but it is even more fragile than lead wire after flattening. Not sure if it was done on a machine if it would be more uniform and therefore stronger. You're right it is a strange looking fly but if it catches fish, I won't question it. All the best, Sean
