- In this video lecture we have described the definition of periodontal ligament which is defined as the “soft connective tissue that is present between the cementum and the alveolar bone”. The PDL fibers they connect the tooth with the alveolar bone. The term Sharpey’s Fibers is also described which is an embedded portion of the PDL with in the bone or cementum.
We have also described the functions of the periodontal ligaments such as supportive function, sensory function, and regulation of mineralization.
There are numerous cells present in the PDL space these cells are fibroblasts, epithelial cells, bone, cementum cells and undifferentiated cells.

My exam is this week and this really helps me to understand PDL much more informative and effective way. Post more videos! I followed you on Instagram and also on your website.
Thank you so much. I am so happy 😊 to hear your feedback. Good luck!
Beautiful !
Thank you 😊
Nice video sir. 🙌🙌🙌
Thanks and welcome

Thanks Monika for feedback
If you see our next videos on PDL you will find more pictures !!
Also continue giving your feedback its very important
Thank u💙💙
You are welcome 🙂
Thank you mam
you are welcome !!:)
What's the function of sharpeys fiber in the bone ?
These are the embeded PDL fibers the periphery of the fiber bundle is mineralized and the center is not mineralized. They provide attachment of the tooth with the alveolar bone.
Hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions :)
Stay blessed always !
Mam in your previous lec u said only cementum n bone are the mineralized tissue while in this lec of pdl u also talked about mineralization ? Can u clear the confusion plzzz .....?
The periodontal ligaments are not mineralised only part of the pdl embedded in the bone and cementum are partially mineralised. Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions 🙂
Okyyyy thank u ma'm
