As well they should! SE models are inching still closer in price to where affordable USA Fenders etc once were, but with better Spec and quality. Direct price competition with the now very good Fender Mexico… It’s becoming less and less important where things are made. In fact we realized this 40 years ago when Tokai and FujiGen were making the best available new instruments. I think Paul Reed Smith has a very serious and deliberate strategy. The SE line will not undercut theirUSA production, but build brand value, demand, and firmer pricing of their whole lineup.
Just bought the PRS SE Standard 24-08 in Translucent Blue today at a local dealer, and I must say I'm VERY impressed.Wide range of tones for many genres, easy playability, great sustain and a very nice tremolo.Looks fantastic too.
Hi ! honestly, could you let me know if the switches coil split are great sound response? I mean when you switch in any combinaison, the volume of the sound is the same !? Position humbucker or single coil, the volume is the same?
I owned the exact same model the translucent blue and the way it looks when the light hits it WOW! 😮 I love that you can see the wood grains through the finish. But most of all is plays very well and sounds amazing. It is a versatile guitar to have in your arsenal. The neck is my favorite part of the 🎸 guitar!
I have owned many different brands of 6 string guitars in varying price ranges, and amongst them I have my PRS SE Standard ($500 USD) which really stands out amongst them all....the material and construction quality are top notch, the pickups sound so good that I would never consider changing them. It stays in tune after long periods of time even with a tremolo bridge fitted, and the craftsmanship is just as good as my Ormsby guitar which about four times the price of the PRSES. Paul Reed Smith is absolutely killing it.
It's good to see the 24-08 switching system becoming the standard. I bought my S2 35th Anniversary last year and the 24-08 switching makes it the most versatile guitar I own. Single coil tones with no volume drop. Love it!
@Mark Seymour yeah i agree! 😃 but what I meant was that I was excited about the 24-08 and the switch system being on more prs models; especially the affordable ones. Also what I like about the 24-08 is that you have more control and tone options when splitting the neck and bridge pickups. The switches are good but I would like it more if push-push coil split knobs were used like those used for Darrell Braun’s signature Paoletti guitar. Imo it seems more intuitive and u can have more tone control for pickups.
@Mark Seymour the difference is that the previous coil tapping was done by pulling up the knob. That meant both could be humbuckers OR both could act as single coils. With the individual switches you can mix and match and have one of each combined.
I would hardly say the PRS switching system is becoming the standard. Brian May designed his guitar to have something like 13 different pickup combinations, making the most versatile guitar ever built. other guitars have since tried to replicate this innovation and it looks like PRS and others, have decided to do the same. Keep in mind that Brian designed his guitar back in the early 60s, when Fenders and Gibsons only had 3 pickup configurations.
I just purchased this exact make and model. I finally own a PRS and I love it! It's the best guitar I have ever owned and played! Excellent playing my man!
I’ve come back to watch this video at least 7 times in the past few days, I want this guitar so bad, how DARE Paul sell something I need at such affordable prices.
I just got one of these and love it. I play a couple of different styles (Blues, Country & Prog Rock) and this handles them all in its stride. The range of tonality and selectivity given with the pickup configuration is impressive, and for the money they are incredible value. Mine's Tobacco Sunburst finish too... and sometimes I just sit and look at it. 🙂
I've also been interested in that one! Ive yet to see the finish in person. How is it so far? :) Id really like the faded blue whale but I'm tight on budget lol
Please make a 24-08 that also has Piezo as well. That would truly be the most versatile guitar! And please make an ocean blue Custom 24-08 in the SE series!

The SE Eriza Verde Custom 24-08: Got one about a week ago. And sadly there are a lot of problems with it. The set up was very high. I could tell something wasn't right with the nut once I tuned it. the B and E strings sounded muted and plinky. So there's that. I should not have a nut problem on a 1000 dollar guitar from PRS. I have and play two Schecter guitars and they both came with no set up problems. Trying to set the height to be more playable only caused more muted and or plinky notes. Plinky as in they are not ringing out the way they should. Took it to a friend and he has the tools to check the neck. And found from the ninth fret up to have unlevel frets. Even without the problems I found the neck to be uncomfortable for me. And the bridge very limiting. The note down rang is usable, but the bend note up range gives a hard crash into the top of the guitar body. If you look for people that play PRS guitars most never have the bar in place. I though it was odd. But now I know why. They are cheap and not much though has gone into making useful trems for the PRS. This is my first so I don't know if all models are like this. I have read so many asking is this model over hyped... my answer is very hyped.
