Great job! Really enjoyed the video and love the extra space. How do ya like that loft? I wasn't sure there'd be enough space, so didn't build it in. Love your camp lizard :)
Wow! Thank you so much🥹 I really love the loft! I’ve been sleeping in it this winter and even when it’s in 30s I stay pretty toasty since it’s kind of like a cocoon😆I think you made the right call not putting one in for the 8’x10’. It would be a bummer to not have the beautiful tall ceiling! And yes, the horned lizards are the best😂 They have so much chill😎
It’s funny how much I envy people who can build with their hands more then I think of a doctor, lawyer. It there was a school I can go to I would. To build something like you did would be amazing. JC
I got the plans after watching Girl in the Woods, and I'm trying to see as many builds as I can before I start. I like the doubled approach, that definitely gives it more of a useable footprint. Great work!

Cool, man. 🤔 Make it your way…it’s your cabin. Mine is on the high plateau 25 miles north of Flagstaff, AZ. (Don’t get out there much these days.) Small is beautiful! Mine is a 120 square foot box. I could heat it with a few oil lanterns. ✊🌏🕊🎩🎩🎩✌️
Great work. Thank you for posting this. I bought Derek's plans as well. I am actually building an A frame outhouse as practice first. The cut for the top is complicated. Hey what tint of red is that, do you remember?
Yeah it took me a bit to get the angle right but once you learn how to use the speed square it’s not too bad! Good luck with the build! I’m not sure what the red was called, been awhile😅
Great content! Hang in there, get a out house built. You will enjoy life a little more. Make another A frame for your potty/shower house! God Bless, just some ideas for content!
You 100% have the ability to do this build my friend trust me!!! I had never built anything before and never even picked up a skill saw before this year (although I did do electrical work so was comfortable with tools). If I can do it anyone can trust me😊 Start with a small project and build your confidence. It also took me years to start process so don’t worry it will happen when it’s supposed to🙂 Just break it down into manageable pieces and find RUclips videos on each part of process. Starting with foundation find a video how to level and then how to square it etc etc. I was very unsure of myself but there are so many cool people out there that will help you make it happen. You got it man😎 Get in touch when you turn your dream a reality. would love to see it😄
Thank you so much! Yes! Exactly🙂 I used his plans and decided to double up because I wanted to build a loft but wanted it full size because I’m kinda tall haha. I’m glad I did! Lots of room for activities😁
@@desertsolidude How did you double it, tips for changing Deek’s plan? Tje size looks perfect. Is it sturdy, the camera was shaking or the house when you went up to the loft? Really beautiful and this build made me believe I can build one too. But I must figure out how to insulate it because I live in Finland. And convert the plan to metrics I guess.
I watched this because I've been really interested in A-frames, but most people seem to favour them in cold climates, often using the loft area to sleep so heat gathers there. I'm in a hot country and wondered how these turn out in hot places, like a desert. Surely the triangular shape with huge metal exterior and a transparent side all makes for a total oven inside? Or does the open side coupled with some insulation actually land up making for a great shelter from the heat? Or is this just something you'd never spend much time in during the heat of the day, then use the shape to your advantage for cold nights? Will be sure to watch some more of your videos to get more sense of A-frames in a climate more like mine than sweden and far north america etc :D
So you doubled the length of Deek's correct? You did an amazing job. I did some math on the triangles (just got the plans tonight) but you might be able to confirm for me. Is the width of the loft right around 4 ft? Or is it smaller than that due to framing? In your video it looks really narrow when you climbed up but maybe you went a little higher than his plans. Just thought I would check before we embark on ours!! Looking to put this on my treehouse platform that is already ready to go, but only the 8x10 version. :)
Thank you so much!!! The top of the loft platform is 80” from the floor. Loft joists are 6’4” from floor so even a tall person doesn’t have to duck🙂 width of platform is roughly 45”. It’s a decent platform and enough headroom for sitting up. I’m not sure what plans were I just did what worked for me. If doing 8x10 one consideration for loft height is the swing wall as my loft is a foot or two lower than top of that door. But yeah I simply just built two and stuck em together lol. Thanks for watching good luck with the build!!!
This would be an amazing choice by a river😍😍😍 Thank you so much! If you check description you will see a link to the plans I used. It was designed by a cool dude named Deek and his channel is relaxshacksdotcom. It’s not a how to build more like a blueprint and you can kind of tweak it how you want (for instance I doubled the size for livability). I am working on an outhouse that I did design myself will be putting that video up once I’m done it’s going smooth…so far😆 cheers
Hi, i have a few questions about the big poly door. Is it facing north? Is the con of it being like a greenhouse quickly offset after you open it up and let the breeze in? Do insects and water get in?
I really appreciate the kind words 🙏 I used the blueprints from @relaxshacksdotcom for the “Tranforming A Frame Cabin that are in his site for $30. I also recommend watching the channel @girlinthewoods who also built one. That was for sure my inspiration I fell in love with it when I saw that video. The only difference is I doubled the size so basically built two next to each other🙂
I love the colors you chose for it 😍. May I ask what desert this is in? I'm thinking of building in NV not too far from Death Valley, but I'm worried an A Frame & metal roofing will get too hot. AFs are usually in the Sierra mountains where I currently live, so snow slides off. I'm a beginner though!
Thank you!!! It’s Sonoran Desert/Southern Arizona. I was worried about roof and design too but surprisingly it seems the metal roof reflects the sun pretty well and there is maybe an inch or two gap from metal and plywood walls and it seems like a good little buffer zone. Before I put panels on it was super hot with just plywood and the metal seemed to cool it down. But yeah..not saying it’s the best option for desert but so far hasn’t been any problems. I wanted the roof style for rainwater collecting and solar panels eventually too. Thanks for watching!
@@desertsolidude oh! Good ☝️ points about catch rain water & great positioning got solar panels. Did you use insulation too? I'll rewatch the video as well in case I missed that part. It's awesome, & I don't mean to be negative at all :)

In summer I either plan on traveling or building a cabin made of cob that I think would stay a lot cooler. Felt no matter how well I insulated living would still be unbearable. With the giant clear Tuftex swing wall I felt like they would counter act any benefits of insulating. It’s neat and I love it for the light I get during day but not very good for temperature extremes and practicality. I figured I could always add it later on if I needed to but so far it doesn’t seem necessary. I also like the aesthetics of the wood walls & studs on inside for shelves.
