Well done buddy, the Hardknott pass is definitely a challenge for anyone, the Bonneville is really well suited to touring, it’s capable of covering the miles easily and comfortably, yet light enough to tackle things like the Hardknott with a lot more confidence than a big heavy tourer or adventure bike. Did have to chuckle about the wildlife 😂 and you should always take at least a 3 season sleeping bag, if you get too hot you can easily unzip it, nothing worse than being cold, well yeah, cold and wet 😂 at least you dropped lucky with the weather 🌞 All the best buddy 👍
Hi Mike, can't argue with any of that. Yes my sleeping bag was crap and I underestimated how cold it gets. I heard another fella talking and he said it goes cold by the lake. Perhaps that was it. I think when you're going over there it's best not to follow a mate (or anybody) too closely because if he has to stop for something oncoming you may just be at a point where your options are limited due to camber etc. So... You just fall off. Luckily due to the terrain it's all low speed ( or no speed) tumbles. But by the sound of it you've been over there too. So you know that. Ride safe👍

Thanks for a wonderful video, it brought back so many memories of when I lived in Keswick back in 1975/6 doing a main drainage/flood alleviation scheme. The Hardknott and Wrynose Passes are just as I remember them with the poor quality tarmac and potholes plus hairpin bends, never took my bike up them as it was down south. Back then I had a Ford Escort estate which I frightened my mother in law almost to death when taking them all over there for a sightseeing trip. Loved seeing the Moot Hall with its 1 hand clock. You were lucky with the weather, normally it's raining there. The price of your camping was cheap, I paid 40 Euros a night on my trip to Madrid last week. As a final note when camping in the UK (even in the summer) I always used a minimum of a 3 season sleeping bag, something that is okay at - 5*C or better. Never been overheated in one in the UK. One night last week I slept on top of the sleeping bag for most of the night. BTW the 'parcel' was posted yesterday - we can chat about it once you receive it.

Ha, never thought of that. It took me a while to realize that it was that thing making all the noise. The camera doesn't really pick up the gradient, camber or poor condition but it was interesting. 👍
Last time i rode those two passes must be about 15 years ago and the road surface was pretty poor then and I'll bet its never seen any tarmac since then, that's for sure. Oh the joys of camping in the great outdoors, loved it as a kid but not now, no way.

Afternoon Keith, when I done the Hardknott Pass a young lad on a 125 went down on a bit of gravel as a car came towards him, near were the lady was walking up difficult place to park a overweight GS to help!
I loved those views! It did occur to me that the Classic 350 would have been the perfect bike for that route. The Triumph is excellent, but not ideal for that route. Thank you for the video!
Hi Keith….you were pitched by Derwentwater, not Ullswater 🫣 I wish I had known you were coming up, you could have popped in for a brew on your way there/home, as we are literally 5 mins from M6 J35. You had us in stitches with the bird impressions. Where we are, the ducks go for it in the early hours, then fly about, landing on the roof of our place (not bricks and mortar), and we are sure they have hob nail boots on, so do sympathise. I have done Wrynose and Hardknott a few times (yep the vids are available to watch), but not on the Classic 350 yet. That’s on my to do list this year. It does catch the unwary out, almost better to do it on a lighter bike, that you can comfortably flat foot when seated. Sadly, something these big adventure bikes don’t allow for. Is the quad lock case for a Pixel 7a, as that’s the phone I have ? I’ll give you something for it. Nice video, if you come up again, give me a shout.

Those passes expertly negotiated ! Well done. Those airbeds lose heat to the ground, and the air contracts as it cools so lose pressure. I put down a space blanket and yoga mat or newspaper underneath and still need 3 season kit. If you pump the airbed up too much in the morning and leave it in a closed up tent on a sunny day it might burst.

She couldn't sleep the whole night because of a fox/dog who sniffed and scraped around our tent... I remember her eyes in the morning, as I slept very well 😂😂 Those passes are super roads for our RE Himalayans 😉 Thank you
Indeed they are, your Himalayan would be truly at home up there. I think much more that the big GSs that you see loads of. Bigger isn't always better. Just keep your distance from others cause because if they stop and you're up their chuff you might have nowhere to go.🤔 If your going up there have a look.👍
Love the Lake District and Hardknott is a fabulous ride. Hoping to get up there again for a week in August with my Son and his Partner. On the rear suspension what pre-load are your shocks set at? Generally most people think the T120 is too softly sprung rather than too hard so I wonder if your pre-load has been set too high for solo riding. I generally have mine set at one click for solo, 3 clicks for 2-up and then on the max 2-up with luggage.
Hi, too soft, really. Mine are set on 1 click and I feel every bump, no give at all. Might as well be a hard trail. However it went something like a pair of shock absorbers when the weight was on the back. Weird. I don't think anyone has said they are too soft. But thanks for sharing your thoughts 👍
You know, I think I'd sooner be on 2 wheels. At least you can see the road, use all of the road and normally you can see what's coming in the other direction🤔 Just a thought.👍
At least you can pick a bike when you drop it. We came across a Land Rover that had fallen of the edge of the road. Completely stuck and waiting for recovery.
