Honestly, it’s a little exhausting to get teased a theme or set I’d be interested in only to be thrown some $300 investment that would occupy an entire piece of furniture in my apartment. I wish Lego would do more in the $50 range for adult oriented sets.

My favorite part about the Minifigs (though correct me if I’m wrong) is that all of them have gloves and no skin-colored printing on their torso necklines, so you can swap the heads between figures as you please. Really neat and perfect for D&D character creation. I wish more sets did that, too!
Yeah! I got a chance to talk with designers about that, and that was very much intentional. They wanted you to be able to put pretty much any head on any minifigure and go crazy with the customization! I sure hope we see that in more sets too.
That’s great! It’s one of the most annoying things to me about building custom figs - you find the perfect torso but there’s a little triangle of the wrong skin color at the top, when they could easily have just left it out in many cases 😖!
Speaking of D&D minifigures I was expecting a Barbarian, a Paladin or even a Ranger to be among the main crew of characters... Oh well I'll just make some using some already existing torso and leg pieces from Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and some Castle sets
@The_Blue_Otaku fighter and barbarian are kind of interchangeable, at least ascetic wise. same goes for clerics and paladins but to a lesser degree. Ranger would have been great especially since it'd probably include an animal figure but who knows they might be saving that for later

Some more armor definitely would have been really cool. I'm surprised they didn't do that! I'm excited to see what the D&D CMF line will have later this year though...
Love the colors, visual power, adventurers, and brick built monsters. That Dragon may be the best ever. However, that price seems a bit steep for how hollow it is. (Hasbro has their hands in this.) The tower isn't even fully built up. And only 6 proper figs for $360 is ridiculous. Skeletons are a cop out. No minifig monsters; not even a Lich or some goblins? Shouldn't have to buy into the CMF series to properly fill this set up.
I really wish the set could’ve gave us some dice that could’ve made the whole thing even better or some character sheets inside of the instruction booklet
"Campaign developed with Wizards of the Coast - Download and play your way through a campaign specially designed in collaboration with the world-renowned Wizards of the Coast" it might not come with dice but i assume that means character sheets would be a thing too
There'll be a digital download with the character sheets, yeah! I bet one of the other early reviewers might have covered that aspect of the set in more detail
I wish these had been split up into seperate sets for the enemies and tower/tavern. I feel it would have been a great step into d&d as a full series to let players mix and match as they see fit. (mind, I just want the dragon so...)
I’m an enormous D&D fan and this set is absolutely stunning. Every little detail just makes me smile. I fully intend on getting this since I actually use Lego minifigs as game minis
Thanks for making a shorter review of this set! I can’t exactly watch an hour long review on my break at work, but this video is the perfect size for the time I have right now. While this set is definitely out of my budget, I’m definitely gonna have to pick up some of the minifigures here like the dragon guy at the very least. I love that the minifigure torsos & legs don’t have any skin tone showing so you can mix & match the parts to make a dragon rogue or an elf cleric. This is a really great set & definitely worth the hefty price tag. Thanks for the review.
Really glad you enjoyed - thank you! The figures are spectacular, and I'm really glad that LEGO has been listening to feedback about skin tones on the torsos.
Back when I submitted ideas onto LEGO Ideas I tried these concepts based on Star Wars: The Old Republic where you could receive a random figure design to represent the player character, inspired by the game's character customization. While those ideas never went anywhere, I'm glad that something similar has appeared in this set! And I'd certainly like to see something similar in the future!
Even though this set could get a bit dicey, I want to pick it up, take it gnome to build, and try to play the adventure with my kids. Owlbearly be able to keep all the secrets and mysteries under wraps, but will let you know how it went after we're dungeon... Sorry to keep dragon out these comments, but let me know elf you agree that this mage be the most exciting LEGO castle/fantasy set a cleric could ever lay hands upon.
I absolutely love this comment Find it so fun. Too bad I can’t come up with something smart and quirky on the spot! Lich you know if I do come up with something
Man, if I didn't already have a bunch of medieval sets, I would consider this the best set ever. But I already have a castle, and a dragon, and an inn. So it's a bunch of stuff I already have all beautifully integrated together.
Looks like the dungeon section houses a few extra monsters. The mushroom guys are Myconid, the black lumps shown at 11:00 are probably supppsed to be Black Pudding (notoriously they divide into smaller ooze monsters when they take slashing or lightning damage), and the pink plant is probably supposed to be Violet Fungus! combined with the Mimics and the Gelatenous Cube, you have all the staples of the classic dungeon ecology, it just needs a Grick or a Rust Monster to round it out!
Gotta say I'm a little disappointed by the lack of play features and details. Especially for the dragon. The lack of articulation makes it look unthreatening when he's supposed to be wrapping around the tower. He comes off like he's just standing there waiting for his friends to visit.
@@denysvision That doesn't make any sense. You can still have poseability, otherwise it would be an immovable statue. Also that was besides my point. The dragon needed more articulation because it looks bad displayed on the tower as all it can do is stand there. It can't look imposing and it only looks good when it's separated from the tower, which missed the point of the whole premise of this set.
DnD would work really well as a set of four at various levels, rather than trying to cram it all into one big set. Follow the same four characters with different minifigs in each set (representing the new magic items they got), and start with a small set that's maybe a goblin or kobold raid for levels 1-4, go up to a larger set with Mind Flayers or a vampire attack on a tavern for the level 5-10, a bigger set still featuring a Beholder for 11-15, and then you throw out the Ancient Dragon for a big, several-hundred-dollar centerpiece set.
This feels like it could be 6-7 separate more affordable sets… Maybe even more if we make each room a set with 1 character. 1 set for each big monster Then the forest with a little monster and another minifig And so on… Looks so good. I wish I could buy some part of it.
Well as a D&D player and Lego fan, I'm really happy to see a set like this one. It's just a bit sad for the price to be that overkill ... But really, awesome set ! And nice video, keep going !
That's probably the single best thing about this set - just how much STUFF there is in it! You'll be able to have some insane adventures in this model, and I'm sure it could keep an actual D&D campaign entertained for days.
I absolutely love the fact that every PC has a second face! such a nice addition for multiple faces in multiple skin tones loved putting together the tree man and the beholder
My brother and I use to play advanced dungeons & dragons back in the early nineties with lego figures and white grid board plus coloured chalk. Amazing to see this.😂
What we really need for this theme is some Dungeon kits! Have sections of dungeon you can change around and use to actually play a game of d and d with hero character mini figs and some monsters.
I’m a huge D&D fan, but this set just doesn’t resonate with me. It just feels a little generic fantasy, IMO. The only thing that feels like right to me is the iconic monsters, and a few of the potions lying around the place. I wish they either made a bit more of a cohesive story (Throw in a little adventure module with it, written by WOTC. They did it for Nerds candy!), or just made an iconic set piece from an existing module. Currently, it just feels like a waste of the D&D IP. Build rocks though
Okay so I don't know if the other minifigs are characters introduced in art before, (The dwarf cleric definitely isn't the one depicted in the PHB unless he got new clothes and armor) but that dragonborn bard immediately reminded me of the Bard monster statblock in Monsters of The Multiverse, which really looks like it could be the same person
Oh my these figures are beautiful and how is nobody talking about that 2 sided cape we haven’t seen one of those in a minute. And this set really gives me that terraria type vibes or a souls game love it
Looking at this set from the perspective of a DM (at least what you’ve shown of it), I think the people who translated it from the original idea to the final set couldn’t have done a better job. Even things that were probably unintentional, like the lack of detailing on the bridge, is exactly the kind of things that would happen in my games, where i would describe something in immaculate detail and completely forgo describing the thing right next to it. The build itself also has the same vibe as a lot of the dungeons i’ve ran, where parts of it seem completely intact and well maintained while other parts feel like the ruins of structures that were already ancient and decaying when they were built.
That's really cool, honestly! It 100% was designed by D&D fans for D&D. I got to speak with a few of the designers involved in the project, and you could clearly see the passion.
I like that the set isn’t particularly a display set or a play set. In DnD a lot of the movement/actions have to be imagined, and using a map like this is usually just a guide for the players to use their imagination. I think it fits well with the theme:) I’m so excited to get this set in april!
This looks like a $300 set at best. Ninjago City subtheme is similar to price/size but comes with a TON of minifigs. This set has 6, same as $30 SW battlepacks. They could have added minifig parts to enable customizing the hero party or just enemy units in general.
Be so good if they made buildable D&D game sets, like rooms you can buy and adapt. Could just do them myself but would be nice to get everything in a little box, having players make their own mini fig and win loot in a game to add to it would be so fun too.
I think it would be cool if Lego made sets that were designed for tabletop play. Maybe the floors would have 4x4 flat tiles to represent 5ft. squares, the buildings and terrain would be modular, and the minifigures would get a special stand so that they are like actual tabletop minis.
I think, especially since it's in collaboration with one of Lego's chief rivals (Hasbro, who owns Wizards of the Coast), they weren't willing to commit to a full theme, and instead leaned on the Ideas submission as a one-time collector's piece. What I think they succeeded at was capturing both the spirit of the game and the core of Lego by making the figures fully customizable. And the play features they sacrificed are being replaced by a full playable D&D campaign based on the set. I think they felt like they couldn't skimp on details-- because let's face it; D&D fans are all about details-- but wanted to make it playable as well for that same audience. I don't play D&D and I probably won't get this set, but I love fantasy and Lego Castle so I will probably look for these pieces and accessories on PaB
Seems like a lot of people are complaining about the $300 price point. Let me be frank - as a long time user of miniatures in my D&D, $300 is pretty standard for entry-level of using minis at the table top. I have spent WAAAAY more on Dwarves Forge over the years. Not to mention miniatures, set pieces, etc, etc. For 300 dollars, this is actually a pretty good price, IMHO, to get into using LEGO for your D&D game. Especially because you can simply merge all of the bricks from this set into your other LEGO bricks and make just about whatever you want. For those tight on budget tho - I strongly suggest going to flea markets and Goodwill stores. You can almost always find LEGO bricks and LEGO figs for super-cheap. People are always off-loading their LEGOs, because they amass a large collection and then out-grow them.
I was not super into dnd until I built this set. I highly recommend reading through the campaign for this set and at least briefly exploring the general layout of a dnd experience because it goes hand in hand with this set and it will make you fall in love with it completely.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but for those that aren't familiar with D&D, the Red Dragon now looks like a reproduction of how Red Dragon's are portrayed in all of the official WotC art. I believe that Lego had to get final ok from WotC/Hasbro so that their IP is accurately represented in Lego form.
Can the dragon sit above the bridge like it shows in lego's images? That honestly may be a make or break for me. I don't have room to display the dragon separately, or very flimsily balancing it on the bridge
Holy crap, this thing's *massive.* I think my favorite part is the purple tentacle blob cyclops monster thing (idk what it's called, I'm not much of a D&D person) 1:17 They're called Beholders. I think the OwlBears are kind of neat, too. So are the Displacer beats, and I've seen Mimics all over the internet without knowing where they're from. You know what? I might look into Dungeons & Dragons lore, it seems interesting! 😅
Seeing this set makes me wish Lego would come out with a Fallout set that went along with the TV series that's coming out next month. There’s a lot of RP and D&D elements in that as well.
@piotr78 I agree it is sad that Lego isn't interested in going to unlicensed themes like Pirates or Castle or even an action theme like Adventurers. Unfortunately, licensed themes are seemingly all that we are going to get for the time being.
Really excited to get this. Have so many great memories surrounding D&D. My go-to class is Rogue and that Orc is definitely my favorite figure of the set
I wouldve liked to see the central tower work like a dice tower. I also think it's a missed opportunity to not include a brick built d20 in the set. I'm not sure if Lego could do that but it would certainly add something unique to this theme.
I know the price for this set is definitely high (I certainly can't afford it, haha), but I love thinking of this as a Lego D&D Starter Kit of sorts which allows the owner to use their own collection to make a much bigger, intricate land and story with easy visual representation!
Unfortunately combining smaller cheaper sets often ends up in much less detail as in the harry potter modular green roof castle or the new daigon alley sets. I do like the idea of modular sets that are still very detailed tho, ie an inn similar in detail to the medieval blacksmith (which came with only 4 minifigures however). Amazing set love all the details. Seems fragile but the play features are all the hidden details and the play story not so much stuff like the trap door. Also regarding the price, LOTR Bard Dur is supposed to be released at about $100 more than this albeit with more pieces bit still!
Now that D&D sets are possible, here is a list of what sets we NEED: A Castle Ravenloft set An undermountain or undercity set A Planescape Sigil set A nautiloid set A Tomb of Horrors set
I don't get it, so on the lego website it said set will be available April 4th, today's April 4th I go into the website and it says out of stock need to backorder it which will take 60 days....🤦 also guess I'm missing out on getting that exclusive lego mimic chest from purchasing this set
We need D&D sets as a whole LEGO theme, I guarantee they’d be popular, especially the smaller sets as it seems many here would prefer. There’s so much potential for so many more D&D sets, they could get very creative with them as both LEGO and D&D encourage their players to do. I can imagine so many more play features through traps, and so many more diverse characters and monsters.
@@CheeseyStudios I didn't know about that! Makes me excited. Also, I just discovered your channel with this video, and have been watching all your lego HP stuff since. Love your content!
Thank you for a genuinely good review, I don't like comparing youtubers on the platform- but you're the only person i've seen so far who actually went over the mini figs haha. Honestly the minifigs might have justified the insane price point for me. They really didn't hold back on the figs and I love that for them!
what also looks neat is that all the monster figures look to be about the same size of an actual dnd mini of said creature so they can be used as such. It would of been cool if they included bases.
Honestly, for 300$, i'd rather have a full size tavern that's properly detailed, or a larger section of the castle or forest, with the ability to merge the seperate sets into a more detailed version of this. It just seems a little too janky and disorderly for a set with a more adult price range.
I feel like the less detailed thing is a slight nod to DnD DMs (Dungeon Masters) not describing in detail what is in a scene they are telling the players. In a number of games I've played, the DM would just say that the players see castle or a tavern, or even a well, without really saying too much of what the place looked like.
One of the good reasons why the dragon was changed from the original idea is that the logo of the original DnD creator company TSR is the red dragon. This is a nice nod to that.
I'm not a D&D player, so may be I'm entirely wrong. I wish there's a wave of "Minecraft style" D&D sets with 30-100 dollar sets feathering different D&D locations and themes. This will be an easier entry point for D&D beginners, plus this allows players to customize maps. 300+set put me off as I'm not committed to the play feature, and don't have a room for such a big display
Nowadays it is rare that I see a set makes actually go out of my way to buy it. But this one does. Does it have flaws? Yes, I personally would have preferred a bit more articulation in the dragon, and maybe making so the tower can be split. But honestly, those are the only things I would actually consider to be problems with the build.
The plaid shirt reminds me of lego masters!! Major points for coordinating with the tavern roof... even if it was inadvertent 😉 Fantastic review touching on all the small details, thanks! 😊
This set looks wonderful but I just can't justify getting it. It's 2 weeks of pay as a college student and I don't even have space for the giant wonderful monstrosity. I'd kill to just get one section as its own set.
just out of curiosity, is that black plate holding the chicken leg and the dragon egg up in the tower new? I love this set so much and the figs are amazing
Not a D&D player myself (though the movie was the best film of last year). I actually really like this set because it captures a unique high fantasy story in one go. So much packed in. Compare that to the obviously beautiful Rivendell that was $500 but had no villains included so it just kinda hits one note. I like that this set captures multiple aspects of the world in one package. Too bad I can't afford it.
This set is so playable. I would love to see more themes get sets like that. I would love a star wars kashyyyk beach set with this kind of detail and playability
As someone who has played D&D since 2015, I am very excited to get this set and I’m willing to forgive the cost just because I’m such a huge Lego and dnd fan. Some of the references I caught in the set were the green orb at the base of the castle is called an Orb of Dragonkind, which is so cool to see in a set!

Skeletons are a cop out. No minifig monsters; not even a Lich or some goblins? Shouldn't have to buy into the CMF series to properly fill this set up.
That's fair. Ultimately, I wish it had been a smaller set at a smaller price point too. Is this the most expensive Ideas set to date?
The Dragon is the only part I am not so keen on it looks like a paperweight it had almost no movement in it at all
The tower is all build up
@@Clone_Captain_Rex The tower is in ruins in the back missing entire walls. Not all built up.
@@gasonfeist7238 He build it all.
It‘s just made to look ruined
Oh my goodness gracious jeez that’s huge
I was flabbergasted seeing the box for the first time lol! I knew the set was going to be big, but yeah - wow!
Agreed
I really wish the set could’ve gave us some dice that could’ve made the whole thing even better or some character sheets inside of the instruction booklet
That would have really sold the collaboration, especially when this set is apparently also supposed to have a legitimate campaign tied to it.
"Campaign developed with Wizards of the Coast - Download and play your way through a campaign specially designed in collaboration with the world-renowned Wizards of the Coast" it might not come with dice but i assume that means character sheets would be a thing too
There'll be a digital download with the character sheets, yeah! I bet one of the other early reviewers might have covered that aspect of the set in more detail
on dnd beyond will be free adventure with character sheets, also lego insiders can download one
@@_Thorgan_I know but I prefer my DND to be physical it just feels better
I wish these had been split up into seperate sets for the enemies and tower/tavern. I feel it would have been a great step into d&d as a full series to let players mix and match as they see fit. (mind, I just want the dragon so...)
Agreed. An ongoing expansion series would have been so cool, allowing people to pick and choose!
I’m an enormous D&D fan and this set is absolutely stunning. Every little detail just makes me smile. I fully intend on getting this since I actually use Lego minifigs as game minis
That's fantastic! Super excited to see what the CMF line will have in store. The minifigures from this set alone are so good.
A Star Wars set like that would be sick though 👌
@@CheeseyStudios I'm glad that you think so, too!
Hey, looks like you saved yourself 360 bucks! 😂
😆@@CheeseyStudios We shall see...winter is coming...and Christmas comes with it....
Ay, awesome! Thanks for the clarification! They really did put everything into this set.
Gotta say I'm a little disappointed by the lack of play features and details. Especially for the dragon. The lack of articulation makes it look unthreatening when he's supposed to be wrapping around the tower. He comes off like he's just standing there waiting for his friends to visit.
I really thought there would be more interactive elements too! There was so much room to add them, too.
This is an 18+ set, is not ment to be playable, is an display set that is ment to be played with an dnd canpaing in mind
@@gulorful8488 THANK YOU, finally someone said that loud.
Theres also a swinging axe trap that was missed
DnD would work really well as a set of four at various levels, rather than trying to cram it all into one big set. Follow the same four characters with different minifigs in each set (representing the new magic items they got), and start with a small set that's maybe a goblin or kobold raid for levels 1-4, go up to a larger set with Mind Flayers or a vampire attack on a tavern for the level 5-10, a bigger set still featuring a Beholder for 11-15, and then you throw out the Ancient Dragon for a big, several-hundred-dollar centerpiece set.
Splitting this up would have been perfect, yeah. It's a pity so many people will never be able to get the set!
Believe it or not, female dwarves in DnD canonically have beards!
Honestly, I do believe it xD That's great lol
If the dm isnt a coward that is
@@gsuaveytwhy would the dm be a coward if he didn’t gave a dwarf a beard ? (he would ofcourse be wrong)
I knew something was up with that, Tolkien said so after all.
I believe you're thinking of the Lord of the Rings universe. I don't think D&D does that. Unless it is old lore.
This feels like it could be 6-7 separate more affordable sets…
Maybe even more if we make each room a set with 1 character.
1 set for each big monster
Then the forest with a little monster and another minifig
And so on…
Looks so good. I wish I could buy some part of it.
I hope we get some smaller sets in the future at least. I feel anything at a lower price point would be very well received
You could probably play a one-shot adventure on this thing! Although it might be the most expensive one shot of all time...
Indeed xD There is a digital download (plus a physical copy redeemable for Insiders points) guiding an adventure through the build
bro the bards torso could be awesome for a shrek custom minifig
YESSS
Well as a D&D player and Lego fan, I'm really happy to see a set like this one.
It's just a bit sad for the price to be that overkill ...
But really, awesome set !
And nice video, keep going !
Appreciate it! The price point is crazy for sure. Hopefully we will get more affordable D&D sets in the future.
It’s so detailed!!!!!!!!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
That's probably the single best thing about this set - just how much STUFF there is in it! You'll be able to have some insane adventures in this model, and I'm sure it could keep an actual D&D campaign entertained for days.
I absolutely love the fact that every PC has a second face! such a nice addition for multiple faces in multiple skin tones
loved putting together the tree man and the beholder
I love YOUR face! 💖
My brother and I use to play advanced dungeons & dragons back in the early nineties with lego figures and white grid board plus coloured chalk.
Amazing to see this.😂
This has definitely gotta be a dream come true for so many D&D fans!
What we really need for this theme is some
Dungeon kits! Have sections of dungeon you can change around and use to actually play a game of d and d with hero character mini figs and some monsters.
That would be so cool! Even this set could have been split up into 5 smaller kits
I just begun to build the Mimic I got this morning, unfortunately it's missing an eye tile
I know it's been awhile since you commented, but were you able to get in touch with LEGO customer service?
@@CheeseyStudios I have, but things have been more difficult than I hoped
I’m a huge D&D fan, but this set just doesn’t resonate with me. It just feels a little generic fantasy, IMO. The only thing that feels like right to me is the iconic monsters, and a few of the potions lying around the place. I wish they either made a bit more of a cohesive story (Throw in a little adventure module with it, written by WOTC. They did it for Nerds candy!), or just made an iconic set piece from an existing module. Currently, it just feels like a waste of the D&D IP. Build rocks though
There is indeed an included adventure written by WOTC! 👀
That's cool! It would be fun if all the figures were references to something. That's beyond my realm of expertise though 😂
It’s beautiful, but $360 is just ridiculous
Indeed. I hope we see some smaller D&D sets in the future if this collaboration continues.
360 bucks??? The office one had more mini figs and was longer and wa only 130 wtf
Oh my these figures are beautiful and how is nobody talking about that 2 sided cape we haven’t seen one of those in a minute. And this set really gives me that terraria type vibes or a souls game love it
A Terraria/LEGO collab could be quite interesting 🤔
The most recent double-sided cape I've seen is the one on the bat lord in cmf series 25. It's a really awesome cape
I think it fits well with the theme:)
I’m so excited to get this set in april!
That's a good call! I'm just not the target audience, and I think that's okay. I really hope a lot of other people can enjoy this!
This looks like a $300 set at best. Ninjago City subtheme is similar to price/size but comes with a TON of minifigs. This set has 6, same as $30 SW battlepacks.
They could have added minifig parts to enable customizing the hero party or just enemy units in general.
pls be a new Ninjago City modular next year 😩
Be so good if they made buildable D&D game sets, like rooms you can buy and adapt.
Could just do them myself but would be nice to get everything in a little box, having players make their own mini fig and win loot in a game to add to it would be so fun too.
Yeah! I'm honestly surprised they didn't go that route. Several smaller expansions would have been appealing to a lot more people
I wish my wallet was thick enough to get this set 😂😂😭😭
$360 is crazzzyyyyy 😭
I think it would be cool if Lego made sets that were designed for tabletop play. Maybe the floors would have 4x4 flat tiles to represent 5ft. squares, the buildings and terrain would be modular, and the minifigures would get a special stand so that they are like actual tabletop minis.
I'm curious to see if they do something special for the stands of the CMF series coming later this year!
Love the fact that they come with extra heads, wish we see more with those options.
That was such a pleasant surprise! So many sets could benefit from having the option like that.
That's a good point regarding why this likely won't be a theme. I imagine there was a lot to navigate in making this happen at all.
Oooo, this turned out better than I thought it was going to
I agree. The color changes is what really sells it for me!
Turned out worse for me sadly
$300 is steep, but yeah, you undoubtedly get a TON of stuff in this set.
I was not super into dnd until I built this set. I highly recommend reading through the campaign for this set and at least briefly exploring the general layout of a dnd experience because it goes hand in hand with this set and it will make you fall in love with it completely.
That's good to know! I might have to give it a try one of these days
7:28 unfortunately there’s no “rocks fall, everyone dies” play feature ☹️
That honestly would have been perfect for a set like this
As a dnd and Lego fan, I’m in love with this set
It's pretty much a perfect fit for you! Do you think you'll be getting it?
if were lucky, this could lead to a D&D line and LEgo will design some sets with more play features.
At least we'll be getting that CMF series!
That makes a lot of sense
Can the dragon sit above the bridge like it shows in lego's images? That honestly may be a make or break for me. I don't have room to display the dragon separately, or very flimsily balancing it on the bridge
It can technically, but it's not super secure. Some small modifications to the castle could probably lock it in place
@@CheeseyStudios good to know, thanks!
Holy crap, this thing's *massive.*
I think my favorite part is the purple tentacle blob cyclops monster thing (idk what it's called, I'm not much of a D&D person)
1:17 They're called Beholders. I think the OwlBears are kind of neat, too. So are the Displacer beats, and I've seen Mimics all over the internet without knowing where they're from. You know what? I might look into Dungeons & Dragons lore, it seems interesting! 😅
It's a Beholder! It's quite... eye-catching, isn't it? xD It's one of my favorite parts of the set too!
@@CheeseyStudios
Yeah, I know, you said that at 1:17
Haha, that pun gave me a chuckle
The Owlbear and the beholder look great.
The displacer beast not so much.
Seeing this set makes me wish Lego would come out with a Fallout set that went along with the TV series that's coming out next month. There’s a lot of RP and D&D elements in that as well.
another licenced theme is the last thing I want from lego
@piotr78 I agree it is sad that Lego isn't interested in going to unlicensed themes like Pirates or Castle or even an action theme like Adventurers. Unfortunately, licensed themes are seemingly all that we are going to get for the time being.
At this point, it feels like any license is possible! I certainly wasn't expecting that Dune set.
Honestly I would absolutely love a relatively cheap DnD theme in order to build actual DnD campaigns
A series of smaller expansions would have been perfect for sure. That way you could pick and choose what sets you'd like rather than breaking the bank
Really excited to get this. Have so many great memories surrounding D&D. My go-to class is Rogue and that Orc is definitely my favorite figure of the set
Love the blue color scheme! I think that looks really great
I'm not a huge fan of D&D... but, as a fantasy MOC artist, the cool translucent parts, along with the beautiful architecture, is a dream come true!
There's definitely a lot to love here. It's an amazing parts pack!
I don't know much about D&D, but this looks like it would go really well with the classic castle
I'm looking forward to comparing the two once I get Lion Knights' Castle!
I wouldve liked to see the central tower work like a dice tower. I also think it's a missed opportunity to not include a brick built d20 in the set. I'm not sure if Lego could do that but it would certainly add something unique to this theme.
They definitely talked about it, but it seems it just wasn't possible without making the die enormous according to the design team
I know the price for this set is definitely high (I certainly can't afford it, haha), but I love thinking of this as a Lego D&D Starter Kit of sorts which allows the owner to use their own collection to make a much bigger, intricate land and story with easy visual representation!
That would have been really nice. This collaboration would work great as a whole theme of expansions!
I wish that beholder was sold separately. I’d love that on my desk
Right? It's so good. I wish more people would be able to get it
Lego, one of the most expensive toys and Dungeons and Dragons, one of the most expensive hobbies, what a long-awaited combination on my part.
🤣🤣🤣
Unfortunately combining smaller cheaper sets often ends up in much less detail as in the harry potter modular green roof castle or the new daigon alley sets. I do like the idea of modular sets that are still very detailed tho, ie an inn similar in detail to the medieval blacksmith (which came with only 4 minifigures however). Amazing set love all the details. Seems fragile but the play features are all the hidden details and the play story not so much stuff like the trap door. Also regarding the price, LOTR Bard Dur is supposed to be released at about $100 more than this albeit with more pieces bit still!
So excited for Barad Dur 😩
now i can build a giant build of a kobold den
Ooh, that sounds pretty cool!
omg im known@@CheeseyStudios
Is that a neon green diamond on that staff cuz if so that is pretty cool to collect and that is an awesome looking dragon
I believe it's trans-bright green!
Now that D&D sets are possible, here is a list of what sets we NEED:
A Castle Ravenloft set
An undermountain or undercity set
A Planescape Sigil set
A nautiloid set
A Tomb of Horrors set
Hopefully we see more sets in the future!
I had this idea of using mini figures as minis for dnd games and taking it further using modular lego builds to build dungeons and stuff
The D&D CMF line just got revealed today - you might be very interested!
I don't get it, so on the lego website it said set will be available April 4th, today's April 4th I go into the website and it says out of stock need to backorder it which will take 60 days....🤦 also guess I'm missing out on getting that exclusive lego mimic chest from purchasing this set
Classic LEGO blunder 😭 I feel like they add GWPs on backordered items, but that may be out of stock too now...
Smaller expansions could be so cool! At least we'll be getting a CMF line later this year 👀
@@CheeseyStudios I didn't know about that!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this! The figures are incredible. I don't have a single complaint there. That's the level all 18+ set figures should be at!
I love how many easter eggs and references are in here, tons of fun.
The designers are clearly D&D fans and it shows! Always cool to see
13:58 I don’t think that’s a dragon… I have a feeling that Mr. BBEG is planning on making a Cockatrice!
Uh oh 👀
If the inn’s only room has two mimics in it, that’s really shady
Yeah, I doubt anyone who actually stays there comes out alive lol
This is a great set and if they continue to make them I hope they can all connect into a huge play set like the super mario line.
That would be sick honestly 👌
I never knew this set even existed. I WANT IT SO BADLY!!!!
It's very cool - I hope you can get your hands on it!
what also looks neat is that all the monster figures look to be about the same size of an actual dnd mini of said creature so they can be used as such. It would of been cool if they included bases.
I'm surprised they didn't make a custom baseplate for these guys! At least it wouldn't be hard to build some nice-looking ones for yourself.
It looks absolutely great, as a dnd fan, and a lego fan, if i had the money and space id buy it so fast
Yeah, I have no idea what to do with it now because it's so big lol
Honestly, for 300$, i'd rather have a full size tavern that's properly detailed, or a larger section of the castle or forest, with the ability to merge the seperate sets into a more detailed version of this. It just seems a little too janky and disorderly for a set with a more adult price range.
That's very fair. It's a bit chaotic for me too!
this set looks great, if i had space or money for it then i would have loved to get it. big fan of D&D for the last 20 years.
The space thing is a serious issue, yeah. I have no idea where to put mine either 😭
I feel like the less detailed thing is a slight nod to DnD DMs (Dungeon Masters) not describing in detail what is in a scene they are telling the players. In a number of games I've played, the DM would just say that the players see castle or a tavern, or even a well, without really saying too much of what the place looked like.
Hey, that works 😂
Im a big lego dragon collector but this one might be too expensive until I get the pieces from ordering 😅
Yeah, that's gotta be the most expensive dragon set yet outside of Gringotts!
One thing that could've made this set even better would be a custom set of dice for actual dnd
That would have been pretty cool
One of the good reasons why the dragon was changed from the original idea is that the logo of the original DnD creator company TSR is the red dragon. This is a nice nod to that.
It does make a lot of sense - the red seems much more iconic!
Many have definitely echoed this sentiment. This set alone could have easily been 4 or 5 much smaller modular sets.
Wonderful review. This set is all i wanted for over a year now!
Thank you! You're really going to enjoy this one. I feel it lives up to the hype, and you can tell that a lot of love went into it!
So much love indeed!@@CheeseyStudios. I have been saving up for a while. And i will def DM this to my fellow dnd friends
Anyone else think of the Aegis shield from greek mythology from the behilder shield?
It definitely has that vibe!
Lego really needs to figure out how to get their prices down
Ain't that the truth 😭
The beholder looks really good. I would love if they just came out with a LEGO D&D range of smaller sets.
Agreed. Some smaller sets could be so cool. Imagine all the different creatures they could make!
The Castle Bro's stamp of approval.. here here.. great review and video. 👏👏👏
You're still gonna love the set. Overall, I think it's really cool and there's just so many fun things included!
The plaid shirt reminds me of lego masters!! Major points for coordinating with the tavern roof... even if it was inadvertent 😉 Fantastic review touching on all the small details, thanks! 😊
lol! Glad you enjoyed
I was NOT expecting the random Myconids in this set (the mushroom people)
Right? This set just has soooo much!
We need Lego Gnomes & Lego Orcs
Hopefully we get more in that D&D CMF later this year!
This set looks wonderful but I just can't justify getting it. It's 2 weeks of pay as a college student and I don't even have space for the giant wonderful monstrosity. I'd kill to just get one section as its own set.
Yeah, 5 smaller modular sets would have been really cool instead of one big one.
just out of curiosity, is that black plate holding the chicken leg and the dragon egg up in the tower new? I love this set so much and the figs are amazing
It's pretty new, yeah! I think it first showed up as a car headlight or something last year
Not a D&D player myself (though the movie was the best film of last year).
Rivendell is gorgeous, but yeah, really one note. This one, on the other hand, is something of a symphony 😂
Fun fact! Most D&D map squares are almost exactly the same size as 3x3 in lego pieces!
That's pretty cool! That's like the perfect space for a minifigure too
@CheeseyStudios several of my D&D minifigures are made out of lego 😉
This set is so playable. I would love to see more themes get sets like that. I would love a star wars kashyyyk beach set with this kind of detail and playability
It's always great when LEGO remembers they're a TOY company 😂
As someone who has played D&D since 2015, I am very excited to get this set and I’m willing to forgive the cost just because I’m such a huge Lego and dnd fan. Some of the references I caught in the set were the green orb at the base of the castle is called an Orb of Dragonkind, which is so cool to see in a set!
I think you're the only one who's named the Orb! Thank you! I was wondering what that was supposed to be xD
Excellent review! The more I see of this set the more I need it! 😂
It's just so darn fun! Love how much stuff they were able to cram into this set. Are you a D&D player?
