At risk of repeating myself, "Then Play On" was first released with a slightly different track listing including 3 or 4 songs by Danny Kirwan that were later deleted when the LP was rereleased just months later and the song, "Oh Well" had been added. "My Dream", "When You Say" and "One Sunny Day" are 3 that come to mind. Also, "Fighting for Madge" and "Searching For Madge" were on different sides of the LP so it was not too much jamming in one take. The reason that Peter Green asked Danny to join the band was that, in spite of the fact that he was a great blues player and made for some interesting jams between the two of them, brought a more melodic sensibility to the group. I might add "Spooky Two" by Spooky Tooth and both "Brave New World" and "Your Saving Grace" by The Steve Miller Band. "Last Exit" by Traffic isn't bad either. Oh, don't discount "Happy Trails" by Quicksilver Messenger Service and "Aoxomoxoa" by The Grateful Dead. And who can forget: "ITCOTCK" by King Crimson?
"Then Play On" is one of my favorites. I prefer th early bluesy Fleetwood Mac over their commercial, predictable formula of the mid-seventies. Bought my copy in the UK, which has a dfferent lineup from the US version.
Grand Funk, the red self-titled album, 1969. I've never seen any youtube music raters give this album the love it deserves. One of the best rock albums of all time, imho. It is a rare album that I can put on and let it play without skipping a track. This is one.
@@vinylrecordplayer Thanks for responding and for your honesty. What's not to like about "Closer to Home," of course? Classic. You've inspired me to give it another listen. Thanks again.
Man, I just discovered your channel when I happened upon your 5 underrated must have albums from 1970 - finding a ton of great stuff to check out & really enjoying it. Thanks man!
Peter green didnt just lead first version of mac, he formed it and named it. Mcvie wasnt in it originally but he named it that hoping he would join he wanted him so bad
Great picks there. I need to find that Willie Hutch album. My top five:. 1. The Temptations Cloud Nine - maybe not too underrated but side one is classic Whitfield production. 2.Jo-Ann Kelly (self titled) authentic sounding Mississippi Delta blues from this British young woman is amazing. 3. Sons Of Champlain Loosen Up Naturally - killer psych rock jazz 4. Sir Douglas Quintet Mendocino - tex mex rock at its finest. 5. Laura Nyro New York Tendaberry - perhaps her most personal (best album). Enjoying these videos. Keep them coming
Craig, great choices. John Stewart's California Bloodlines is my top 20 all time favourite albums. On your last video of 1968 you had Jeff Beck's Truth, and that is also one of my favorites. It really was the blueprint for Led Zeppelin's first album, so it should get the love as it well deserves.
Heya Danger Man. I can't admit either the Fleetwood Mac or the Blind Faith albums as among the less appreciated, since FM radio in San Francisco played the living hell out of both of them -- pretty much some major influences of my youth. The rest of these I will admit. Fast forward a year, and you will find Peter Green's first solo album, The End Of The Game, which is great if you like instrumental jams (I wish I still had my copy) and Fleetwood Mac's Kiln House, a brilliant album that has never got the attention that other versions of The Mac have got.
Craig, you are murdering it right now!. I don’t need to tell you that Jerry Butler had a good 1969. Johnnie Taylor’s ‘Who’s Making Love’ is decent. David Ruffin’s ‘My Whole World Ended’ is a belter. Keep On Keeping on my friend!
Gotta say, Brother. 69 is relatively fine for Jerry Butler, but we're talking about Ice On Ice. It's super underrated and a pretty excellent album. But, again for me it's the 71 to 73 albums that are Jerry Butler explosions of amazing. 🔥
John Stewart's previous album LONESOME PICKER is easily my favorite over the overproduced, super-slicked BLOODLINES. And check the sales of THEN PLAY ON, especially in college towns, where it was POORLY distributed. This was deep in the era where Distributors wanted to be Kings - stars and labels had sooo little power compared to the hidden ogres of distributors. This power would then explode in the '70s and ;80s as distributors were buying up radio stations, choking off not only purchase-ability but LISTENING ability, too. "These cities will ONLY buy from US and only HEAR what we want them to hear."
Previous album to BLOODLINES is the duet album with Buffy Ford, SIGNALS THROUGH THE GLASS. Bloodlines is not the over produced one, it was done in Nashville with the Nashville session musicians, arrangements are very basic country folks songs.
LET IT BLEED by The Rolling Stones and THE STOOGES S/T. FLEETWOOD MAC's album is fine, great tranzition in sound. I admire it more and more. Then KING CRIMSON "In the court of the Crimson King". But these albums are very well known, not underrated. Under the sheets are many unknown art pieces we just have to know about
Wow, for once, I own 2 of the 5... woohoo. I have the Robert Flack and the Blind Faith (that I have both on vinyl and reel to reel tape) I will go check the others BTW, nice watch...
Wow, I have found my polar opposite in music. These are underrated for a reason, no one listened to them. Just what were you doing during the summer of love?
Sweet, Frank. Glad to discover a true polar opposite! Don't forget to like and subscribe for more "God, this dude's music taste blows"-style content! 🤘😁

Repeating yourself works! People need to hear that album in all forms. Cheers! 😁

Kinks - Arthur, King Crimson - In the court of the crimson King, Sir Douglas Quintet - Mendocino
King crison album is NOT underrated,it revered i"m not a particular fan of it,but is well loved!
Great picks, although that King Crimson LP is super rated. Thanks for watching! 🤘😁

I listened to this one before I made this video. I actually have it on LP, too. Couldn't get into it. I think I like Close To Home better. 🤘🧐
@@vinylrecordplayer Thanks for responding and for your honesty. What's not to like about "Closer to Home," of course? Classic. You've inspired me to give it another listen. Thanks again.
John Stewart also had a hit song in the late 1970s called “Gold” that featured members of the later Fleetwood Mac.
Nice. Did not know that. 💯🫡
To quote the Big Lebowski: 'I like your style, dude' Thanks Craig. Great stuff as usual. Keep 'em comin' man.
Hey thanks for watching! Appreciate the kind words! 🤘😁
I saw a copy of the reissue of Soul Portrait and grabbed it. So glad I did- I certainly lives up to your recommendations!
Sweet. Nice pickup. Welcome to the world of Willie Hutch, Soul Legend! 🔥🔥😁

Aoxomoxoa - Grateful Dead
Yep. Absolutely. Great pick! 🤘😁

I love this one too, California bloodlines

Underrated is a bit "eye of the beholder", but you make great points. Thanks for the comment! 🤘😁

And Ruffin? Too much talent combined with, sadly, way too much Coca Cola. 😳
Thanks. A lot of great records in 1969. Some underrated:
The Flock
Chicken Shack- 100 Ton Chicken
Tim Buckley - Blue Afternoon
Nice picks! 🤘😁
Dude, were you at Sherwin Williams today in Garner?
I have never been to a Sherwin Williams. Not a big fan of the painting, I guess. 🤘😁
Fuckin' a. Thanks for introducing new shit. I'm 43 and have times where I need unlistened-to things in my eardrums. Thx
Great picks. "First Take" is one of the greatest albums EVER. Ron Carter on bass.
I agree. I will look into Ron's work. Thanks for commenting! 🤘😁
What is your opinion of 1979's one off LP: "Durocs"? 1969 underrated: Tadpoles by The Bonzo Dog Band & Supersnazz by the Flamin' Groovies.
I've not heard Durocs. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!🤘😁
/Being a one off really makes Blind Faith a Super album. Astounding.
Well done....never heard of John Stewart. I will check him out.
Fun stuff. Almost Johnny Cash like, but not. Good road trip music, I'd think.🤘😁
No Kick Out The Jams?
I'm not sure it's underrated. Like The Stooges self titled, it's kinda (deservingly) rated. 🤘😁

Love the insights! Appreciate the comment, sir.🤘😁
Blind Faith was tight...excellent JAMMIN'...
The greatness is real. 🫡

Well known, but definite classics. Thanks for commenting! 🤘😁

Oh I gave it a big thumbs up
I do love Blind Faith, but underrated? Not really! Two more
1. Steppenwolf-Monster
2. Grand Funk-On Time
😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😊😊😊😊😊
Good picks. Love Steppenwolf all day. 🤘😁
Best Super Group ever : Traveling Wilbury's .
That is a reasonable and fair assessment. 🫡
