Turtles are a lot smarter than people think they are. I've raised turtles all my life & discovered first hand their amazing reasoning when presented with an obstacle. All turtles have their own personalities, food preferences & quirkiness. There is no 'it's just a turtle' description that blankets all species of turtle or tortoise. Five years ago, I found a baby alligator snapper on a road after a flood in Minnesota. He was the size of a quarter. Kept & fed him all summer. Come fall, decided I should release him before I headed south. Took him to remote pond, bid him farewell & to watch out for herons. He dove under duckweed. I stepped into the shallows to rinse my hands & he swam over to me. I figured he'd dart off when I reached for him. He didn't. Stormy is still with me. At three, he outgrew his original gallon ice cream bucket. Came home & found him sitting by the window , taking in the view. He's got a twenty gallon aquarium now. Stormy likes the unobstructed view.
I know Mn. has Snapping Turtles, but I doubt that Timmy is an Alligator Snapping Turtle. They are a different species, and are found in the southern U.S. Mn. Is outside their natural range.
I grew up on the bayou in Mississippi. If you see a turtle larger than a basketball LEAVE IT ALONE! Unless you know exactly what you're doing with the exact species you see you'll get severely injured. I know a guy that only has a pointer and thumb on one of his hands. A guy that had experience and still got bit
I'm was born in Pascagoula grew up in Ocean springs ms. I have seen some small dinosaurs aka alligator snappers. I wouldn't want anything to do with that bite.
I grew up in a small town in Eastern Arkansas right on the Mississippi River . There are many ponds small lakes and tributaries right off the river and they are some big snapping turtles. Many people avoid them. They aren't to be trifled with.
I grew up in Little Rock, and when I was 12 me and buddy caught a 6 pound snapping turtle in a creek by my house. We kept it as a pet for the summer and let it go, but ya, they're mean AF. I still can't believe neither of lost a finger.
That Harry Potter scene was Hilarious 😂 you never fail to educate and entertain us simultaneously, undoubtedly the best animal channel on the platform.
Turtles ain't no joke. They've haven't made it this long by not being a successful design. I remember when the Monster Hunter community was debating Dalimadur vs Zorah Magdaros (old world big mountain-sized snake, vs new world volcanic-mountain-shelled snapping turtle) and somehow all the veteran oldfags hyping Dalimadur up failed to acknowledge that a snake's entire body is a critical weakpoint; fodder before a turtle's supremely destructive bite.
4:51 whoa wtf, couldnt he have just walked outside, waited for the turtle, then walked back inside and shut the door, but what he did was probably part of his training to fear for his life as much as humanly possible
Me and my brother caught a alligator turtle before. We were actually planning on catching smaller turtles and thought it’s head was jst one turtle alone. I was shocked when i pulled it out of the water and threw it in a bucket. He weight atleast 30-40 lbs . They’re actually pretty smart also, he kept escaping even tho it was was really deep
Archeon (pardon if the spelling is wrong) was an ancient sea turtle. It was HIGE. About the size of a car. It really could eat sharks. But alas mosasaurs could also eat it, As could megaladon.
A sound lesson, Don't ever try to kiss a turtle, Even if it's your pet and you've had it for years and you think it loves you, unless you want to risk an instant pierced lip.
The turtles we have on LI, fresh water, have the ability to strike further away than people think. Their necks can extend really long & reach unsuspecting people. People call them alligator snapping turtles or snapping turtles.
Damn don't underestimate turtles. I have seen some crazy videos before, this only confirms that given the opportunity they would eat just about anything even humans.

I never dump plastic. I kill my turtles manually, with a plastic bag garrotte. It's more personal and intimate that way, and they hate me instead of all humanity
The common snapping turtle is more aggressive then the alligator snapper. The common snapper has a neck reach 3 times the alligator snappers.. I own common snappers big ones. And have have worked with alligator snappers .. from experience the common snappers will bite you before and alligator snappers. The Alligator snappers is huge when full grown and looks scary. They just want to be left alone ..
Right!!! I have been doing turtle assist and/or rescue for over 40 years--- Its sad how many I see run over-- have also handled dozens of snappers, but now I use a large coal shovel to scoop them up, put them in the back of my pickup, and take them where they want to go!!!!
Alligator snapping turtles are dangerous. I remember looking into a huge aquarium at a pet store that claimed they had am alligator snapping turtle in it. I looked for a long time for it, and them realized the huge, algae covered rock I was looking at WAS the turtle.
@@bjuganda7758 eeeeh. Dolphins defeating sharks and even great whites are very common. I'm talking about a Shark's favorite food fighting back and winning.

9 times out of 10, that woman attacked by the turtle might have been menstruating. Reports of dolphins, sharks at shore lines, and even dogs and cats seemingly attacking women for no reason were coincidentally menstruating about 90% of the time...

People often greatly underestimate the length of a turtles neck. That's how a lot of injuries happen when they decide to grab them from their sides.
