Can’t believe how much Shattered Glass has grown as I have been a fan of it since the original generations Shattered Glass figures released. Unfortunate that such a huge company continues to use crap plastic but oh well. On the bright side I think you’ve perfected the “Ravage, Eject!” Impression 😂 Great review as always Prime!
This is honestly real heartbreaking, I love Soundwave, I really love Sir Soundwave from SG, but I just can't justify spending the asking price on this figure with the risk of yellowing being a factor.
This yellowing issue has me on the verge of ending my mainline collection. I have a close relative who is the head of licensing for a major toy brand. This "issue" has not been addressed. It is not a batch problem, as Hasbro has stated either. This is caused by substandard chemicals used in their manufacturing facilities. The only reason I didn't back Victory Saber is due to this. All white plastic cast has this issue, including when painted over. Longevity is also a major fear as oxidation is decay. These figures may be dust piles in a decade.
Don't know if you've seen it yet, but if you look up TFI Creations RUclips channel, you'll find their Gigawatt trilogy and the part 2 is Shattered Glass story. But I think you have to watch all three just to get the gist of it.
Nice review, Prime! Thankfully my copy of SG Soundwave has no yellowing at all, so it's basically the same with Legacy Motormaster, the batch numbers, or basically a gamble. Thanks for the heads up!
The yellowing happens on the stronger types of plastic. The reason is most likely their manufacturer, and they have announced that they can't change their plastic supplier yet, since that would take months.
Great review PrimeVsPrime!!! Shattered Glass Soundwave looks really impressive with that sweatband on his head. lol :D I hate the yellowing/browning that has plagued the WFC Trilogy/Netflix/Selects/Legacy lines. Keep on being amazing.
So, what your saying is, the white plastic is changing allegiance to yellow, sounds like it fits the sg theme 😅 Nice review on both figures, Really helped me make my decision
2:01 that picture of the botcon exclusive shattered glass soundwave was actually a repaint of the universe classic ironhide with new head so that's actually accurate to shattered glass soundwave original alt mode
The pointless gun you mention is actually an accessory for megatron that pegs into megs back to recreate that barrel that stuck up on his back/shoulder from g1. Tho idk why it's still being reissued lol.
My Earth Soundwave, Kingdom Cyclonus and Earth Megatron have yellowed so much that I've considered painting pieces silver or coating it with primer to fix it
If I remember correctly, it's not a fault on Hasbro's end of things as to why the figures yellow so easily, but rather, the supplier they get the plastic from is the ones at fault. At some point, the suppliers had changed up something about how they make the plastic without letting Hasbro know. Hasbro in fact _has_ adressed the issue and are working on getting the issue resolved, but it's not going to be a quick transition or fix. I am not a 'Hasbro amazing, Hasbro can't do wrong' die hard person, but I feel like this has to be said, if it is holding true to my memory.
No, it is their fault. They still haven't changed suppliers even though this issue is going on for years now. They don't care about the fans. One must be an absolute fool to think they do.
@@meowskull it's been going on for a long while, yes, but it was only until recently that they figured out why the issue was happening. Again, the supplier of their plastics had kept it secret that they changed the way the plastic was made, which caused the easiness in the plastic yellowing. Hasbro couldn't have solved the issue prior because they didn't know what the cause of the issue was. Not to mention, changing the contracts with one supplier to another is not a short and easy task, so even when they did figure it out and wanted to change suppliers, it wouldn't be quick, meaning until the change in contracts is said and done, in that time, we'd still be stuck with plastic that easily yellow. Just seeing it as a one-sided issue is equally as foolish Now, does Hasbro truly care for the fans? I won't say they do or don't. But a big guarantee is that they're doing this for the money. Even if they don't 100% care for the fans, they would still want to give us the best they can, because giving everything they can and meeting the needs of fans will guarantee them money. An issue like yellowing plastic that detours from sales is something that'd want to abolish to keep sales high. So even if they don't care for the fans, they'd still make sure we're in good spirits and still buying by making sure things are as good as can be; Big point being the use of clear plastic. Before Legacy, the use of clear plastic was horrendous, it felt brittle and like it could snap any second, with Kingdom Tracks I feel being the worst offender. But with Legacy figures like Bulkhead and Skids, the clear plastic feels studier and like it could handle being roughed with a lot more then previous clear plastics. If they hadn't done that, I feel like people would have skipped out on those figures soley for the use of brittle clear plastics, which again, would not be good for sales. As I mentioned before, I am not a preacher for Hasbro, I'm not a 'Hasbro did nothing wrong, you're the one in the wrong!' kind of guy, I'll admit when I'm wrong, I wo'nt die on the hill of 'Hasbro can't do wrong'. But I'm not going to label them as a villain. If they can do what they can to bring in more sales, they'll do it, no question. If making plastic harder to yellow will get more varified sales, they're gonna do it, even if it has to take a few months.
As one of the few people that have this and the Netflix version, I feel confident in saying that in considering the engineering, etc, all in all this figure really is a Deluxe Class sold as a Voyager Class.
Honestly my only solution to fixing this my way would just be to recoat the white parts with some white spray, and just mask off the other colored parts, still haven’t bought him but I’ll do that first thing when I do end up getting one
Man, it is such a shame with the yellow plastic. I have the Netflix Soundwave and he has yellowed horribly. What's weird though is that him, my Kingdom Cyclonus, and my Earthrise Starscream all sit in the same place in my room next to my window (there is double curtains covering the window), and strangely enough is that though Starscream does sit closer to the window, he hasn't yellowed at all compared to the other two. Might just replace the yellowed parts on my Soundwave with the Legacy one
Other than the yellowing, what made me hate the figure is that Laserbeak, when plugged onto the port where his shoulder canon is, he can't reach over enough to peck the button that opens the cassette deck.
Now what do I realize? Did you see the soundwave gimmick button? something yellow is going on if you can tell part of the skinny canyon that turned yellow in the middle.
I'm pretty sure he transform into a van in the shattered glass comics he should been repaint of earthrise ironhide or studio series 86 ironhide but I'm OK with his original alt mode
I have a handful which has changed but seeing your video I realise mine aren't as bad as I thought. While I have noticed yellowing on my Netflix Soundwave it's by no means the same level of discolouration as yours. However I fully expect that to change in time.
I didn't notice yellowing om mine yet, however, hasbro is not thebonly one to have this problem. My Lego Saturn V has bad yellowing. I personally will paint my soundwave if it yellows badly as I will also to a shattered glass mod to the studio series bumblebee movie soundwave.
man something is wrong with hasbro's white plastic quality, at this rate they may as well paint it over with more white paint. you should do a video on the worst yellowed figures!
Hot take, the fresh white and deo is amazing and on every other figure is far more unlucky. But for this soundwave and the Netflix one, the yellowing is okay in my opinion as the alt mode isn't something that's mass produced today and gives the feel of "old 80s product actually from the 80s" bc if the toy came out and aged it would look something like that. Still unexcusable but it helps cope with this particular sculpt again in my opinion.
Personally, I feel extremely lucky. Out of all of the most recent releases for transformers I haven't received one that has been yellow Out of the box or yellowed over time especially with my Shattered Glass Soundwave and Starscream.
So I decided to contact Hasbro about the yellowing on the figure I got, just to see what happened. Got an email asking for a ton of info, sent pictures... no response since I sent on Tuesday.

I will confess when this was announced, I felt, and i stand my point, that Hasbro gave us all the middle finger. Why? Netflix Soundwave earth mode was exclusive, almost impossible to get and expensive, and add insult to injury, it has yellowing issues. Now that the netflix contract ended,.... hasbro releases it, as another version, WHITE. Maybe someone has a thing for this soundwave, i do not particularly have. So, I am still denied to have earth mode soundwave, AND with no yellowing issues or anything. And by the prices hasbro has been sky rocketing this year alone, the range to for 3parties or even 4thparties are starting to look like normal prices, and better plastic and engineering, making hasbro look like a bootleg brand.
The discoloration issues with white Transformers is dumb as not making Breakdown a Lamborghini Countach, for Hasbro! Until there is serious fan community backlash, I don't think Hasbro will fix the big issues.
I hate all white TF figures, this video is a great example of it, you explained how these figures shouldn’t be yellowing for such a high price so well and I totally agree, I recently got kingdom Magnus and the smaller white version of him inside has already started to yellow. Hasbro need to get better plastic for these figures
Este tiene que ser la figura del Soundwade bueno y porque bueno, fácil hay un cómic donde Cliffjumper viaja a una dimensión donde los Autobot son los malos y los Decepticons los buenos, además del color la marca Decepticon es azul y no roja
The yellowing on my Shattered Glass Starscream is so bad I've paused collecting. I just can't keep giving Hasbro my money until they fix their plastic.
I have a Kingdom Cyclonus that I loved, but now several joints have yellowed to a purply-slush color. Could there be a chemical to use for undoing yellowing?
8:31 Someone could make an upgrade kit to fix the odd-looking back just by making plug-ins that attach where the blasters store that make an L-shaped shell that fills out the back with a storage zone for the blasters that folds back when in robot mode slightly bulking up the legs. There would also have to be two panels for the bottom and top sides of each side of the cassette to fill out the gap made, but it would still be pretty cheap. Imagine that. Hasbro could have improved the Cassette mode by just adding two accessories that are each made of just four pieces of plastic with three hinges each.
If you’ve picked this up has yours any yellowed parts? 😔
Dang it yellowed I'm sorry man that sucks
@Aaronqber editz wow already? That sucks! Sorry to hear that :(
Dang it!
I will get it so hope it won't turn into pisswave in less than like 2-3 years minimum
@@PrimeVsPrime Hey PvP! How come you didn’t use a dark colored background for this review like you normally do with white figures?
