They certainly had technology in the 90s. The Wheelock Exceeder could've certainly been created as far back as the 70s if someone had the idea back then. All of the electronic capabilities and injection molding has existed since before the 1970s. Fire alarms are such simple devices, and even though they look different, they all do the exact same thing. They are all using analog signal generation or using some form of sound samples on a chip, nothing much has changed about electronic fire alarms since they were created. The way they look just depends on the person who designed the aesthetic details, which is usually done by an artist.
Wheelock exceeder wins. They have features the NS doesn't have, more mounting options, more output. A downside is that the mounting isn't the best, but these are NOT for enthusiasts to toy around with. These will be on a wall their whole service. I like the NS better though.
The only thing i like about the exceeders are their horn only versions. I think they look better than the ones with strobes. Their strobes collects dust and I've Never seen a Wheelock NS or ZNS with dusty strobes. Are you also going to review the Eluxa? I like the strobe design on those. 😁

I looked EVERYWHERE, and couldn't find one..that's not true, I found one, but it was very overpriced, and by the time I had the money for it, it was already sold 😤
I like both, but I have to give the NS the win simply because it was the first fire alarm that I ever heard.
you say the mounting of the NS with the screws is annoying, but it's the same for any old mechanical horn such as the 34T-24.
I do prefer the wheelock NS better than the exceeder because it’s easier to wire up

i gave up on fire alarms years ago as well as this channel. but i always wanted eluxa! sad i couldn't ever get it :(

Sounds like the Wheelock NS is Hard to Mount, but not as hard as a Simplex 2903.
It is..I have 2 and pretty much stripped one out and (almost) broke it just by mounting it..I’d assume ANY device is easier to mount that..
