Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed some disturbing news for West Ham fans surrounding Mohammed Kudus‘ Hammers contract.
It is an open secret in football circles that Kudus has an £85m release clause in his West Ham contract. However, it was believed to be active only for one month in July 2025, during next year’s summer transfer window.
But now, Sky Germany’s transfer ITL Plettenberg has dropped the bombshell that the Ghanaian’s release clause is active NOW!
t’s a massive shift from what was being reported only a matter of weeks ago and what Claret & Hugh had been led to believe. It should be pointed out that West Ham’s policy with Lucas Paqueta was to include the clause on the second year of the players contract. Therefore it’s difficult to believe that Kudus’ deal would be any different.
Speaking on his social media account, Plettenberg said:
“Currently, there are no concrete offers for Mohammed Kudus on the table. Kudus has a release clause of £85 million this summer. Contract valid until 2028.
Internally, the 23-year-old winger has not yet indicated that he definitely wants to leave the club.”
Comfort can be taken from the fact that Kudus has not asked for a move away from East London. Unfortunately, the stark reality is that if anyone bids £85m for the player, then the club will be duty-bound to inform him.
If true, this will come as a bitter blow for the Hammers hierarchy who are already attempting to fend off interest in Edson Alvarez from Manchester United.
We can only hope that Plettenberg is poorly briefed or has his wires crossed, but considering he is one of Tim Steidtens‘ regular journalists it is a concern.

Same old West Ham! Zero ambition, sell our best players
We need to give these "best players" a REASON to stay. Even if we could give them a reason, FFP, would make it a MASSIVE challenge. Prem wants no other clubs to replace the likes of Liverpool Man U or Arsenal.
£50m is a huge profit. Wouldn't want to try and replace Paqueta and Kudus in the same window, however.
I started the summer quite excited and optimistic about our transfer business this summer and the season ahead. But day by day, that enthusiasm is waining and Im getting more frustrated and annoyed at all these negative stories that are beginning to come out eg Kudus, transfer budget, Paqueta etc. Strange that they have come out after the season ticket renewal deadline 🤷♂️
Really don't have an issue with selling Kudus if a club comes in and activates his release clause . Why ? , I just feel we now have the people ( Steidten/Scouts ) that we can trust to already have the next player lined up to replace whoever leaves .
Don't get me wrong would love him to stay , just so we have a strong foundation to build on , but if he wants out not much can be done about it .
Agree with every word
Agrees with ..
So you want to sell our best player !!!!!!!;;?????!!!
@@MarkWright-jn8lh who does ?
Thanks Geo. On another matter I wish we’d drop our interest in Kilman and go for Calafiore instead. What say you?
Looks very good in the Euros, incredibly composed on the ball.
He’s one of few I’ve not heard of, had a look at and ended up liking what I see!
@@HammersChat That ball at the end against Croatia. He’s well worth £30-£35m whereas Kilman is never worth £45m.
Am inclined to agree although haven’t seen too much of Calafiore
I don't get how people are acting as if he's gone already? £85 is A LOT of money, that only a handful of clubs would be able to pay. I would be SHOCKED if he left this summer.
I'd be numbed (if that's a word).
Im sick to fkin deff of losing the odd world class player we happen to acquire
Why can’t West Ham have respect for the fans and just tell the truth about players who are for sell and have a clause in their contract from the start, it’s a stepping stone for the player and a profit for the club just tell us from the start, this why West Ham are saying that they have no money only a rumour ? I just hope West Ham board knows you need fans to run a football club
85 million.......take that all day if genuine.....as long as every penny is reinvested in squad building
We're in an odd position with a massive asset set possibly to become worthless, so I guess it would make sound financial and footballing sense to make a quick 50 million profit on Kudus and we have the scouting nous to turn it into a positive...
When we moved to the LS it was to "challenge the big boys" , that was the biggest load of crap going. We are now more a selling club than ever, sad times
Do we have the £100 bet? Doesn’t need be that much, am not bothered but just make sure pay it if I win as everyone else has just unsubscribed and never commented again and not paid up 😂
Done about 5 bets, won them all, zero people paid up.
@@HammersChat too rich for me unfortunately,im certain we will finish bottom 6,pretty sure Loppy will walk as this cannot be what he expected and genuinely 50/50 in terms of us going down
@@rogercooke4589 name your stake, go with what you are comfortable with mate. You can have 15th and below.
@@rogercooke4589 mate, I'm not a hammer but I really don't think west ham are in any danger of even being involved in a relegation battle, certainly not going down, midtable at worst imo. Probably pushing top 10 even European challengers if the right players are signed...a proper CF would be a start. Don't be so negative, there's definitely going to be 3 worse sides trust me.
I'm not worried this season maybe next season real Madrid will come for him 🤔
It is okey for playes to leave but not after one year. And if we let him go for less than 85 thats just stupid.
Who would pay 85mil? Not concerned. If leaves, Tim can go and buy 2 quality players for that money
Am not either mate, similar reasons
U crazy? He’s better than all the England players at Euros he just didn’t grow up playing for Arsenal academy and now showing the world his talent
@@Bigfoot985 how is any of that relevant? He is an excellent player but 85mil is a great deal. We need to stop pissing our pants when other clubs want our top players. If anyone wants to pay 85mil ,I would take it today to reinvest in the team.
@@dicaniowhudefinition of a selling club
I agree, as long as we sign the mercs that are actually good we can keep on doubling up. Also our best player plays RW.
If anyone is willing to pay high fees to activate any clauses for our players, they're likely heading to a Champions League club. I don't think we can stand in the way of player ambitions. If they achieve their aim, that means they have fulfilled their end of the bargain performing for us. It's up to Tim to unearth the next. The fear previously came from selling top players with no plans on how to replace them.
Bang on, couldn’t agree more with this. Wish I could like it twice!
What does Ex have to say about the release clause?
Says he doesn’t know.
@@HammersChat thanks mate, and thank you for another great video
What I don’t get about the the notion of Lucas‘s potential ban scuppering just Summers financial plans is, West Ham have known about the FA investigation for a year, or longer. Surely they’ve had an alternate plan in case Paqueta is found guilty. Also, how does selling Kudus help improve the team? 85 million doesn’t buy you a whole lot these days. Half of that would go to Kilman. So does having a squad with fewer new players but with Kudus in the team worse or better than a team with no Kudus and a few unproven players?
When you say, we might consider bids for Kudus to help us get where we want to be, my concern is that we are where we want to be. We’recomfortably mid table, safe with FFP, not signing any STARZ, just turning this team into a cash cow to help milk the fans. I don’t think we are interested in going back to Europe.
Think TS wants funds if this is all true.
I believe the new Brazilian lad was brought to replace kudus, but at the end of next season giving him a year to bed in and find his feet. Will we sell him? For 85 million? Absolutely. This club is still run by Sullivan and if we are as skint as he is getting his bitches to pedal then it all makes sense. worried.
When are they supposed to return to training ?
Not sure, my guess is next week as tends to be early July
I think I read somewhere it was July 1st
@@EnfieldExile it’s July 3rd, I’ve asked 😂😂
There is always another Kudus out there, and 85m is a nice sum in bank
Perhaps why we signed Guilherme?
This is the New West Ham. Everyone has a price.!
Do you think that’s a good thing or a bad thing? Genuinely interested
@@HammersChat Look at Barcelona. Had the greatest player ever. And in the process nearly went bankrupt. trying to keep him. Only to have to give him away in the end. As with all things in life. "Money gets tight. The S*it gets real.!" West Ham are trying to build a solid foundation. Something all of us can say. they have never done in the past.!
COYI
Yes our defense has been crap last season but are we inclined to sell our most promising efficient attackers (where we lack) to get defenders? The money seems an issue indeed 🫢
Cant see him going this summer for the reason that clubs will be able to find better value elsewhere(crazy to say as I think he is exceptional). Players like Eze has a clause of about £60m and Williams who has a £53m release clause could be more attractive this summer
Amen Ryan, completely agree, it’s £85m…not £18.5m
Doesn’t nico Williams have an astronomical wage demand?
Makes sense why we been looking at so many wingers...gutted if the only kudos westham see is under moyes. Would love to see him in a team with more of the ball and playing in a more positive team
⚒nothing but disappointment
I'm surprised the release clause is active this summer, why wouldn't we do the same as Paquetá's contact the year before..? I hope it isn't accurate 😢
I’d assume we tried but Kudus/agent wasn’t willing to accept it.
Do you believe it, however?
@@HammersChat I'm minded to believe it bcos the journo doubled down and checked with his source like you said but I really hope not..!
Am calm, even if it’s true. However, I hope he doesn’t leave as think he’s a top player and has another level or two to go.
Sounds like our top players will go, and we will be left with championship players. Cant see this club ever doing anything while sullivan is here. Potential buyers for the club dont seem to be interested.
A consistent theme throughout my time supporting West Ham, is the lack of monies to complete the building of a team that challenged the 'big boys'. At times we were three or four players short of realising our dreams (last year as an example). I therefore have no problem if, in the short term, say 3-4 years, we continued to sign, then sell our top players for handsome profits, if it finally gives us the opportunity to complete our rebuilding. As long as we can see clear progression, then fine. Painful as it will be to see Kudus play elsewhere.
With Sully at the helm & his newfound FPS excuse, he can do what he’s already done. Balance the books.
He’s never spent money without selling someone to even it up.
Why would he change now.
If we sell our best players we might as well pack up and give up trying to push on and becoming a consistent top 6 club 🤬🤬🤬
Past worrying anymore , contracts mean nothing apart from how much money can be made . ⚒
Why hasn’t Romano confirmed the release clause?
Bowen is going. He is 28 in December and now is the time to cash in.
Why don't top clubs want him
Geo, I am NOT saying Kudus will be sold or even wants to leave WH but..... I believe we NEED an added £60 mil to sign SOME of the players we need to strengthen. I will include Bowen in that to. Unfortunately, Edison has the hamstring issue & Paqman transfer has major challenges.
That’s a very fair comment
Geo, do u think the "replacement" for Kudus is at that level now. How old is Guilherme? I thought with the 5 year contract, he is one for the future.
I’ve never seen him play, I couldn’t say
Release clauses incase we didnt get Europe ! Then we Should of sacked him long before end of contract , have we just wasted a whole season ? so angry if thats the case Geo ....
That’s a very good point, would make all the claims true (it was next summer but since we missed out, it’s now this summer). I like your thinking Glenn.
@@HammersChat Our thinking Geo 😉
There’s only one,,, constant ,,,,,in all these transfer,, the good ones,,, not many,, the bad ones,, loads of them,, the ugly ones , I lost count a long while ago ,is David Sullivan
That's why we signed an 18 yr old Brazilian.
It does make sense. Doesn’t mean it’s true of course but if believe the Kudus clause then it adds up, imo anyway.
Assume you believe the clause?
Just thought it was strange signing Guillemme,as we are well served in that position
Not ideal either way, we either lose Kudos or have no money? I know the club couldn’t legislate for the Paquetta problem but you still feel years of mismanagement under Moyes and Sullivan have left us in a precarious position.
At least I have the England game to look forward to, oh wait, Southgates still in charge, summer officially ruined 🤣
Hope he doesn't go, but as per Eddie Alvarez interest, he can be replaced. And re Chelsea not affording Olise, it wasn't the transfer fee it was the £220k/wk wages they weren't having. Matias Soule would be a great replacement no???
Yes you’re right, if in fact it is true then we cannot budge from the release clause, as the buying team would have to stump all the cash upfront!.. I think teams will offer less so to pay over yearly installments. So I hope we remain firm on the price !
Verified with who….maybe it was on Facebook 😂
That’s up to you to form your own opinion based on what you know
Yes it is an opinion, but in reality what is the source of verification….because he was told by his colleague or friend? Unless it was from the player, agent or club itself, for sure they won’t reveal the source. Regardless I am enjoying your videos and tune in daily 👍
I feel like they need to re-negotiate, like now.
His release clause is not active now, not sure where this story comes from and why people believe it to be true? Anyone wanting him before that will have to pay considerably more
Not sure where it’s from or why people believe it? It’s literally in the video. Watch the video. It’s there.
Maybe PSG can afford him. Can’t think of another team that would pay 85 at this time.
Liverpool IF they sold Salah perhaps, am not too worried about it….yet. Really don’t want him to leave but it’s hardly a low release clause, or one that’s affordable to majority of clubs.
85 million isn't enough should be 150 release clause plus 150 million
@@MarkWright-jn8lh he wouldn't have signed a contract with that figure. It has to be realistic FFS.
@@modernista6056 need to sign kudus on a long contract . If he had wanted aove would have gone before season started
Any news on Johnson Ipswich move?…..
All but done mate.
@@HammersChat just to ask,did HC have a “idea”behind Johnson reasoning for leaving(outside of first team involvement?)
@@MrPETEHAMMER yes Pete, unsure how much you follow but I’ve mentioned this (kinda) on patreon last week to sort of hopefully verify that I knew Johnson was leaving and hopefully make the why more believable.
It’s nothing too exciting really - just now the club have treated him generally over the years. It isn’t a Moyes thing or a money thing although I expect some to claim it’s for money and I am not going to get into arguments or that but I strongly disagree with it.
Quality player but quality money can do alot with that
Are you Tim Steidten?

No they don't have no option to accept an activated release clause.
The club may decide to keep him and reject any potential offer.
IF there is a clause and a club bids £85m, they have to accept it.
@HammersChat you are delusional ,do you want the club to collapse?is not every player that needs to be sold
