Magic Loop is the art of using one long circular needle to knit in the round. Invented by Sarah Hauschka, it is an ingenious improvement on other methods of knitting in the round like double-pointed needles. Thanks so much for this video. I was so confused watching other videos until I found yours. You have a nice, calm voice and you go at a good speed so we can knit along with you. Your explanations of "ready positions" and the reason why is really helpful. I think can finally attempt some socks!

I use this as a refresher when I have a brain freeze and can't remember how to get started using Magic Loop. I think it's the best video, it's simple, and not cluttered with lots of unnecessary talking, it's very easy to follow.
I've been knitting for 70 years and have never mastered knitting in the round. Your video is very helpful and I really hope I can master it.

I’ve never been able to get the hang of knitting with circular needles. The last 2 days I've been practicing, determined to teach myself - major fail. Then I figured the problem is my cords are too long & I was going to buy the shortest ones available (for sleeves, socks, hats). But your video showed me I can work w/my longer cords. I'm going downstairs to get my needles & yarn to rewatch your video over & over until I get it. Can't thank you enough for the clear & precise instructions.

I'm new at knitting in the round. Of all the websites I visited online, you helped me the most...practical tips (dropping left hand needle after completing 1/2 round), (placing the yarn over the back needle before taking stitches off needle), etc. I've ripped out my work a number of times before finding your instructions. How could I ever forget about the 'Magic Loop'! After VERY many years of not knitting at all, I try to get hold again of stitches and techniques. I made some nice scarves w. CNs and started making matching hats. But: the circular needles - most of them 29/32 inches - were too long. *lol* Not anymore. Your video snapped me back into my old 'modus', things are easy again. I was watching your video of you spinning with your baby in a carrier, reminded me of how I coped when my kids were little. I had a Snugli and the boys were often in there. I didn't knit so much when they were little because it was such a busy time. Now I get to make up for it and knit for the soon to be born grandson.
Going to be teaching knitting to some folks in a nursing home and I will teach them Combined as it makes the most sense.

Yes, magic loop is a new way for me too, loved the video, so easy to take in, having just returned from major surgery it will give me a new hobby and thanx for your expertise help.
Glanced at a few comments and it seems that many of us tried to learn this from other videos first. I was about to just give up but thankfully I found you first! Best magic loop video out there! I only had to practice to the end of your video and had the confidence to begin my project. So much easier than those annoying dpns. You are an excellent teacher and you have a new subscriber. I pulled Magic Loop videos to do a mobius pattern from Cat Bordhi. Yours, thank God and Greyhound and you so much, was the second one I watched, and I get it!! You are an excellent teacher. I have certainly marked your cite. I have knitted for over 50 years, but have just gotten back into knitting for my grands.
This solution was suggested to me for my current project. Never heard of Magic Looping before. Yours is the second video I watched and MUCH MORE CLEAR and less confusing than the first! Thanks for this excellent video!
It took me one whole night to learn it, I kept getting laddering and confused about directions, but your instructions are so clear I just kept going back over your video over and over and finally got it. I am doing sleeves and hope when I start increasing I can keep it right. Didn't have the savvy to do two at a time though, but next time I will try it for two pieces at a time.

I also knit continental and LOVE your explanation of moving the yarn over the back of the needle before pulling it out from start position. I had been adding stitches before and didn't know how I was doing that - this helps so much! Thank you!
Thank you SO much for this video! I got some KnitPicks needles for Christmas and was having the hardest time figuring out magic loop. After about 20 abandoned attempts, I tried it again while watching (and going back, and watching again lol) your video. Thanks to you, I actually knitted with magic loop! I will definitely be practicing a lot before I start a project, but at least I (sort of) know what I'm doing now! Thank you!
YES!!!!! Your video sorted me out a treat, I couldn't figure out why I seemed to have an extra stitch at the end of every row worked and I was creating the yarn over just like you said by pulling the working yarn up through the stitches....thank you so much! xx
Thank you so much for demonstrating with the continental method. I watched several other videos and thought I might not be able to use magic loop without switching back to the American method. (I would rather use a DPNs than go back to that method. ) You are an excellent teacher: clear explanations and useful hints, , no unnecessary chatter or comments, easy to listen to voice, covered every necessary step, and explained the pitfalls. Thank you, thank you! It really helped that you said not to worry about the extra yarn stretching out at the beginning of the round. I've been trying to tighten that join each time I use circular needles, thinking I was doing it wrong, so thanks for mentioning that. I have started over and over again to try to fix that!
Thank you so much for this video! I've watched a few on magic loop already but they all stop after the first round, which is basically only teaching you halfway; this was much more helpful because you do a few rounds. And the tip for not getting the yarn trapped is a huge help.

I’ve been knitting for 40 years & have never been able to get the hang of knitting on circular needles. I can knit on 4 double points but do not find in enjoyable. Unless I can alter a pattern to knit on straight needles I’ll avoid it (I’ve passed by some really great patterns because of this). Your tutorial has opened up a whole new world to me. I can’t thank you enough. Tonight I’ll be going through my “someday” patterns to find my next project (to knit on circs). :)

I've looked at a dozen tutorials for magic loop, most from my regulars and even they did not explain it as clear and wonderful as you did. I can't wait to get off work, I watched this on my break. I am knitting hundreds of hats in all sizes for charity and the DPNs were getting slow and boring. Plus I had to change them all the time according to the yarn weight I was using. Since I make everything from preemie to adult, I have 15 sets of DPNs in different sizes. But with the magic loop I can just use 1 long circular and get it done from start to finish much faster. Thank You very much.

Have watches several magic loop videos in my native language and just didn't get it.... After watching yours I'm now kniting with magic loop! Thank you!!
This is by far the easiest method of the magic loop I have seen and worked with, and your instructions and demonstration are very clear. I wasn't familiar with this technique since I don't often knit in the round, and needed help with sleeves in a top down jacket (something I hadn't done before) for a baby. I consider myself an expert knitter but had trouble properly following other methods of magic loop I found on RUclips. I found your video this morning and now the sleeves are knitting up perfectly.
I was starting with sleeves that already had a cap, but I went ahead and followed your "join" in the first row at the point where the stitches had been divided; except I knitted all the stitches because I also had to pick up stitches to close the gap under the arm.
I began your actual magic loop method with my 2nd row. What you demonstrated is not something I'd seen in the magic loop videos I watched previously, and perhaps it's not meant to be done as I did it. But it has worked perfectly to create an invisible "outer seam." So, thank you very much.

Wow! I have a perception problem,and try as I might, even taking a knitting class to knit two socks at a time, much frustration, a few curses and....well, you get the picture. I was determined to learn to make socks. Everyone else on the class seemed to have very little trouble. Happy to report, I am now making my first pair of socks after watching one of your videos! Thank you so much. Admittedly I didn't have to view too many tutorials before I found yours but I stopped here because your presentation made the most sense and was the easiest to follow for me. I have tried to master DPNs with no luck. This method of magic loop had me sailing through a hat that decreased to 10 stitches at the end which I successfully knitted with your method. Currently I am working on Cathy Carron's "School Ties" which goes from a 40 stitch rib to 80 stitch stockinette and back again in a tube on a 24" circular interchangable with short tips. Easy peasy.

This is the best video on how to use the Magic Loop method. I particularly appreciate the advise to drape the lead yarn over the back needle. Not doing this has caused me so much trouble especially when doing stranded work such as fair isle knitting.
Thank you for this class!!!!!! In my country you can´t find short circular needles so this helped me a lot. What I was doing upto now is cut the cable, burn the ends and stick it together. But that gives you a little bump were you joined it. Besides I haveto end a hat, for example, with doble pointed needles that I don´t like. So again, THANK YOU !!!

Thanks for your video and your clear instructions. I've been struggles for months with circular needle patterns and like Heidi would get into trouble when stitch numbers decreased and the circular needle cable was too big to work with. I kept buying small ones but they didn't work. This method allows you to do small items like hats, gloves and cowls with ease. I just need to practice a little more but I think I've cracked it now!
