Congratulations on a beautiful build! I sometimes bristle at seeing a slideshow represented as a video here on RUclips, but, somehow, I find that this one represents the experience of building a small boat very nicely, the whole being the sum of a zillion tiny processes, and, significantly, including many imperfections in both materials and processes experienced along the way. I love the super gnarly knot replacement at 0:21! LOLOLOL! Well done!

Yes. I remember that knot. Too good of a piece to throw out. BTW, never had a problem. Glad you enjoyed the vid(s).

The Ptarmigan is a gorgeous boat that seems to have...well...flown under the radar. The lapstrake/clinker variant reminds me of Welsford boats, many of which are quite popular. I'm impressed that you seem to have built it in a single calendar year. Would you expect the build to take the average builder well over 500 hours as I would expect?
Maybe I'm reading to much into the few videos I've seen, but your videos seem to capture a reverence for both meticulous construction and the living art that is sailing functional and traditional art through awe-inspiring places. As someone who gets little support from family when it comes to this interest/hobby, I was quite moved by your tribute to your partner/wife. Though she is evidently no longer with you, I'd say you were/are a very lucky man indeed.

I'm planning on building this one's big sister.......Evening Swan, but strip planked. Actually, it's more like the little sister of the Black Swan you've also built. I hope it turns out as nicely as your Ptarmigan.

I couldn't decide whether to build the ptarmigan 17 or the Black Swan 22. So I built both. Problem solved.

Thanks. He offers a straight play or clinker-went with the clinker and never looked back. Good luck.

Lots of storage for a small boat!

Yes there is. I put lots of shelving in so that things would have their own “homes” and be east to find when needed.

... it was a serious question by me - but now I understand...
A suggestion from me for your next video: only one foto, rest must be in the head of your audience - and call it an epic movie...
