Therefore I much rather see them collaborate with people like a Missy Elliott, Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar or Stevie Wonder for example. Because you don't need Jennie when you have Maya, you don't need LISA when you have Jurin, you don't need ROSE when you have Juria and you don't need Jisoo when you have Chisa.

But Hip-Hop and RnB can be found in almost all of their songs in some way. And yes they choose to make most of their songs in English which makes them a global group. But they aren’t completely detached from K-pop because they were trained in that system. So they’re adjacent to K-pop.

The story goes their label was so broke they couldn't hire a songwriter, so rather than wait around and never debut, their leader Soyeon wrote and produced Latata which ended up being an absolute banger.
