the last of several deltarune covers (for now) this one is incredibly experimental... one of my favorite things about this song was toby's performance of it at the end of the undertale 5th anniversary concert (ruclips.net/video/OXEkVJUUoZE/видео.html&pp=ygUTdG9ieSBteSBjYXN0bGUgdG93bg%3D%3D ). hearing him at the piano, performing a song that would end up featuring in chapter 2 a full year later... it made me really emotional. i could feel the passion in his playing, his creative spirit trying so desperately to share his ideas with the world... an artist at work, limited by time and resources and planning, and yet, still willing to give us an extremely personal and intimate view of how he makes his content, what he wants to eventually show us so! i tried to channel that with this cover. u'll notice that the cover starts and ends like it's in the middle of a take... that's cuz it is. the full video of my practice session which eventually produced this take can be found here: ruclips.net/video/ModFtAEBMtM/видео.html . i knew from the start that i wanted to channel that sort of "behind the scenes" vibe that toby's performance had, but i wasn't really sure how to do that; i briefly considered recording myself throughout the day practicing the song, but unfortunately for me, once i hit record, i find it hard to sit down and record again, so that wasn't really an option. after waiting around for it to turn to night for the ambience, i started recording without much of a plan, and (as u can see if u watch the vid), i was having trouble getting into it. actively trying to make the cover sound "intimate" felt forced, and i was pretty stumped. it was only after i got up and walked around that i realized... why not just upload the full practice session as an unlisted video? u can't get much more "behind the scenes" than that. i don't necessarily expect anyone to watch the practice session fully, but for this specific song i feel like it's a nice added touch... gives a bit of perspective for u guys as to what the making of a cover is like (without me having to revive xiao practices cuz that channel is dead as hell lmao) so yeah!! the result is a cover that (again) isn't perfect, but i feel like has a pretty unique vibe. in a way, i'm kinda glad that i took this long to cover these deltarune songs, since i think they benefit a lot from these more stylistic, emotional approaches i'm taking (which i don't think i would have done back when chapter 2 released). lmk if u enjoyed the end result :)
I love to see you taking more risks with your music. The best part of doing covers is you get to add your own flair. The flourishes at the beginning and the end are excellent. Great work.
Every time I try and record any of my songs I make a dumbass mistake and then I can only continue to make dumbass mistakes. Also, I know how to play the song perfectly… but I make stupid mistakes I shouldn’t be making. And holy shit it is aggravating. P.S. nice song by the way.
@Boxingbtos7890 honestly it's helped me in recent years to not worry too much about mistakes, I make some in this recording for example but as long as the end product is decent sounding I'll roll with it being more willing to edit my covers has also helped, I still prefer not doing it but if the choice is between uploading a cover where I splice together two different takes and uploading nothing I'll always choose the former
@@XiaoAndyPugMan yeah, but when I play u get stressed about making mistakes the further I get into it so then I am more likely to make mistakes which causes be to become more stressed and make even more mistakes. It’s frustrating considering I’ve worked on this damn song for half a year - I know exactly how to play it - but I’ll miss a key and everything can only be described as going to shit. Then the cycle repeats.
@@Boxingbtos7890 that nervousness is something that can really only be overcome by recording more, have u tried recording urself playing some easier songs? might be a bit boring but it's good practice
@@XiaoAndyPugMan okay, thanks. I’ll try that. But what about the stupid mistakes on something I know how to play? Is that normal? Or do I have a dysfunctional brain that continues to press the wrong keys?
