Evolution of Amtrak's Motive Power in Train Simulator

- Today as you may know is Amtrak Day, in other words Amtrak was created 49 years ago today in 1971. In those 49 years, the railroad has seen quite the variety of motive power ranging from vintage diesels of the 1940s to modern electrics built by Siemens. In this video, utilizing Train Simulator 2020, we'll take a look at a generalized evolution of Amtrak's motive power used throughout the years. Obviously not all engines that Amtrak has used are included here (GG1, FL9, E60, Charger, etc.) since not all of them have been made for Train Simulator or have available Amtrak reskins. Regardless, Happy Amtrak Day!
All locomotives featured have modified sounds that can be found on Railworks America, Searchlight Simulations, and Fan Railer's YT Channel ( / @fanrailer )

Those E-units have the best horns in this compilation.
The simulator may not have all of the engines, but it does have a Star Trek style Transporter. Watch carefully the people on the platform at 9:49. Helps if you slow it down to half speed.
So many inaccuracies on the Hudson
-E8’s couldn’t run south of Harmon due to diesel emission restrictions in Penn and GCT.
-The West Side Line wasn’t opened to Amtrak service til 1991 and the SF40DF’s were long retired by then. And they never ran work trains either.
-Dash 8’s don’t run south of Albany because they’re too big to fit in Penn and the diesel emissions regulations.
Should have used the Hudson Line extension for better accuracy for the E8’s otherwise this great video showing Amtrak!

The SDP40Fs were in service on passenger trains until 1983, they last another 4 years on work trains.

He's using quick drive scenarios in Train Simulator, I don't think the routes he uses for each locomotive is suppose to be accurate.

That is not the lake shore limited. Probably the Crescent. How do I know that? That station is in Salisbury, NC. Still standing as a Amtrak station.
Railfan & Railroad Productions while the station may be a NC station, the consist looks like an older Lakeshore Limited consist as there were 2 coaches, a cafe, then more coaches before the dining/sleeping/baggage cars

8:58 you know how the train is moving and you can hear a high pitched sound of it moving, well it’s similar to rails unlimited when the passenger trains move and it doesn’t have a high pitched sound

I'll never forget the Amtrak Winter Park FL station manager once called the GE P32 engine the "Pepsi Can" locomotive!

@SomekidAlex Nope. I think your thinking of the NPCUs and Horizon Dinettes, which are owned by Amtrak, but leased to CalTrans.
@@AVeryRandomPersonYeah but there still Amtrak there is no difference because Amtrak Surfliner is Only operated at Los Angeles and Caltrans Amtrak is only operated at the San Joaquin and all those are operated by Amtrak

I remember every Locomotive up to the AMD's. I miss seeing the older models as HEP's on Amtrak trains.

The GE P32-8BWH is my favorite train. I don't know why but I just really like it.

F40s Amtrak still has most are cab units but they have around like 5 or 7 that are still fully operational and they take them out every once and awhile

Happy bday Amtrak, you’ve been going strong, despite replacing all genesis series and-103’s except heritage ones for the new okayish chargers, why, p42dc’s are not that bad and don’t pollute the air at all I say.
People hated the p42 when it started replacing the F40PH locomotives, the chargers are ok
@@NeighborSenpai Yeah, I thought the Chargers were extremely ugly when they started being in service, but they've been growing on me ever since. They actually look good in Phase V paint.

Great video! At 6:30 you know with that sounds pack you can quell the horn all you have to do is change it in your setting and boom you can quill the horn by I believe pressing shift and space

I find it weird how with the Acela horn audio, there isn’t an audio with “Horn.start”. It just starts on the loop audio when you press the space bar. But other than that nice video, keep up the good work

Apparently, the E8s had to be taken out of service due to excessive moiré pattern interference.
My favorite locomotives from amtrak are the EMD E8s, F40PH, Dash 8s, and the P42DCs.

yeah I've been living in the past I gess... I'm still on MSTS and yeah the sound quality is pretty sick on this, holy cow! Twas a fine game in it's day but it's definitely seeing its age

Hello, the Amtrak that you said was used from 1971-80s was acually used in the 90s too (in very small amounts) unless that was the FL9's. Great video, also could you do one on Amtrak rolling stock?

The AEM-7s should have still be in service today Scraping them just for the ACS-64 for a few miles per our faster is just a waste of them R.I.P. They were based on a Sweedish Locomotive!

About the only omission was the former Pennsy/PC GG1, which was the workhorse on the Northeast Corridor in the 1970s.

I wish EMD continued the E and F series styling into the SDP40F and the F40PH.
I was born in 1990, and watched videos about trains as a kid. One of the videos showed of the new Amtrak engine called the "Genesis".
I now have been on the "updated" Genesis, the P42. The few opportunities I have had to rude Amtrak, it was pulled usually by a P42. None of those rides were not enjoyable; making the P42 my favorite passenger diesel.
My favorite Steam Engine is the 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy".
