I never understand when people say techno / electro music has no soul ??? How come I have such a huge emotional response to music like this in such a positive way!!!! Electro music has always had soul whether it’s kraftwerk ‘ vangelis ‘ jonzun crew ‘ Drexciya ‘ stingray ‘ autechre ‘ plaid ‘ afx ‘ dmx krew ‘ cylob ‘ ultradyne’boc ‘ur’etc all of this music I love so much because of the soul they put into there music because it speaks to my soul and I get such a positive feeling from that music ! I’ve been listening for 29 years now and I will be listening as long as I’m here !!!!
Well said - from somebody who has listened to Techno for nearly 40 years - I think because outsiders hear 1) no vocals 2) no 'real' instruments. So much beauty, power, delicacy and real CRAFT in Donalds' work - this is Art, or almost Art, those who appreciate it, will appreciate it. Ignore those who are blind (metaphorically)

Detroit electro is a sub genre of that, all these tracks were produced by stinson & donaldson who im not sure are actually mentioned in the documentary. Why? Because its fuckin electro thats why!

Started listening to Drexciya in Highschool and went down a gerald donald rabbit hole. I just turned 30 and this mix is still my ace in the pocket.
