HAA! Sanford & Son reference. You are showing your age there You big Dummy!! (thats a compliment to those in the know) Great walkthough as always! I gotta say you are a master at one take scenes...while getting work done... while entertaining...and recording.
The only thing, and I mean the only thing I don't like about them is the throw on the relays is very tiny. So you have to get them adjusted really close, or they won't make and break properly. The Williams ones had really long switches and are so smooth, it's a dream to work on the relays (the OLD Williams ones), but I like all of them, Gottlieb was better than Williams in a lot of ways. I don't mind working on any of them...
It takes an organized mind and a good memory to keep all the circuits straight. I can't remember what I am doing anymore. My memory started failing 2 years ago. It is scary.
Great job on those switches man that looked tuff. When the ball was moving on the playfield that looked like the slowest moving ball ever. Great job Ronnie.
So Frank I noticed you had a lil' problem with some of your lightbulbs on the left side of your Xenon, they really bury those suckers over there, don't they? :)
I can almost stay with you now, when you get deep in the weeds. …. almost. Great video on how to read the goddam schematics. What a science it is. Thanks, Ronnie.
Once you 'get it', you'll be like "ohhhhhhh, well that's simple". There are a few places I see how it's set up and can't quite understand what they're doing, but in general most of it is amazing that they thought of the things they put in them....
I was wondering why there are 14 drop targets. It seemed like an arbitrary number of targets. Then at 20:55 Ron shows on the schematic that the score motor can pulse 5x every 1/3 of a turn, which means 15x every full turn, which means at most 15 targets can be addressed, or just 14 targets in order to keep the same number of targets on each side of the play field.
The pool theme defines the number of targets. 1 to 7 (solids), 8 (black), 9 to 15 (stripes) The 8 ball is a stand-alone roll-over at the top of the field.
Yeah like Allan said it fits the pool theme perfectly, because when you play pool you usually divide the table with solids and stripes in a traditional game of 8 ball. So one person tries to knock in all the solids, the other all the stripes, and then you knock in the 8 ball last. There are 7 solids and 7 stripes, and they usually make the 8 ball seperate somewhere that you have to hit afterwards. We have another one coming up called "Bank A Ball" which is a similar concept, youll love it! thanks for watching wOOtDr!
Interesting that the flipper coil has been moved up the playfield with those two extra screw holes n the playfield uncovered.... Wonder if that was why the EOS switch go flipped over? So many switches to clean. I find these EMs amazing but what a load of work!! Sticking to my System11s!! Currently F14 MPU board clean up!
The old ran when parked trick. Sems to be a lot of pretty odd stuff wrong for a machine that just "quit working" The machine is in pretty nice shape, especially the playfield. I would throw a backglass in it and have a pretty nice machine. Love the back glass. It really pops!
hahahaha It's more funny if you do it while you stutter. Then inexplicably you don't stutter. So "Look at this, you .... peop.... people you can't do that. From what I see on all these vids, the typical issue with drop targets, is the half-complete drop after being hit. I'm working on figuring out what to do about that on my Royal Flush. they stick half way down. I'm thinking they need to be cleaned.
Who knows about the legs, maybe the floor where this game usually sits isn't level, could be a raised lip around the the bottom of the walls, maybe the levelers shook out of adjustment in transport. The ball speed as shown would be frustratingly slow., particularly if it was headed straight down the middle. (I'm not one to shake or hit the machine except to free a stuck ball) Love watching you fix the EMs, the relay logic fascinates me, can't hide a complex mechanism inside a mysterious chip. (Like playing the EMs too, they re a whole different feel from the modern games) I don't have one, luckily a local craft brewer collects them and has a few in his brewery, has them on free play too, just there as something to do when you visit.
The whole drop target mech design was pure genius. Especially using 2 coils to reset. That table was soooooo slow. Def needs dropping on the front.....get some proper speed.
It's no comparison, but this series has me wanting to fire up Pinball Arcade on my PC to play this table. I just wish they also had Home Run! Come on, people!
@@LyonsArcade Whenever I got a Gottlieb machine, I always put the red wire on the high tap position on the transformer. It gave the pop bumpers a little extra boost .
We sure are, stay tuned! We film videos at the same time, so while we were working on this one we were filming that one too. We also don't always upload them in order so I'm not positive when those will go up but we've recorded several of it.
Great troubleshooting! I almost miss working on machines with relay logic. One thing, you don't know what the customers floor is like. It could be an old house with very uneven floors, so its unwise to assume he's cheating. Is there a regulation pitch for pinball machines, or a recommended pitch? Keep up the good work.
I don't know what the pitch is supposed to be, I usually just put the front ones all the way in and the back ones out about half way or so. Thanks for watching Carey!
I've had to LED a few EMs before... I don't care for it. AT BEST warm whites on GI and pop bumpers (to mitigate the heat and save them from further discoloration or melting), but I don't really care about the color temp under inserts... But some people just LOVE cool whites everywhere, but I think they completely kill the "look" on EMs.
No but it's close :) They did the same with some other pool games.... but let me introduce you to a little masterpiece a little company named Gottlieb made called "Count Down". The type of game that nobody ever mentions but was amazing..... ruclips.net/video/3KA71VGiyTg/видео.html
Don’t be changing your style - you very kindly repeat a lot of stuff, like how EM switches work, but your style still keeps it entertaining. There ain’t no script people.
Yeah I have to repeat a lot but basically it's all very simple, there's only a few things to talk about :) I'll have you know, I finally got VIDEO EVIDENCE of the switches self cleaning, it's on my Bank-a-Ball videos we have coming up :) Thanks for watching David G-M!
Somehow I feel this machine was not in the state the customer claimed of "it was working and then just stopped working". Too may things not right on this machine to believe it was working then just stopped. I knew you'd get to the bottom of it all, but those legs are just so wrong..
We run into this all the time, We just had a Kiss pinball the customer said only needed the flipper repaired but once we actually got it in here, flippers were bad, pop bumpers didn't work, battery was dead on the mpu, blown fuse, wouldn't even boot, several bad switches, etc.. Most the time the machine has tons of other problems the customer doesn't even realize. They just know it kicks the ball out and the score seems to change when it hits things
Excellent tutorial Ron most enjoyable, couldn't take my eyes off all thru the vid.

Yeah I'm trying to get better at it, I think most people's stuff is way over edited, I just shoot it and go, LOL
That sounds 👍 😃
I love the old mechanics and chimes.
I've been repairing E.M pins for 35 years and Gottlieb pins can be a real challenge

What a sweet old machine.
