MJ is representing commercial success. Chanel represents another level of fashion, which is not commercialized nor trendy. I want someone unexpected and extreme talent to rule the next Chanel.
If Marc went to Chanel you know the quality would be on POINT! He is like Karl in he takes pride in his work and what he outs out. His interpretation of a Chanel world would be insane.
The issue now is that its becoming a fast fashion with its slowly deteriorating quality. How many collections does it produced nowadays and reports of quality issues in their fashion has not being addressed...on the other hand bruno and leena are so ever present in media. None of the other luxury fashion houses have their ceo and president constantly present in the media compaigning like theres no tomorrow.
I love MJ with my whole heart. But I am tired of the same musical chairs game with creative directors. It’s time for a new generation of designers to breathe life into the storied fashion houses.
@@stanley052380 thank you! My point exactly. Infact they are regressing and copying designs of previous designers. Fashion is so boring in this generation
@@lexxelestineits so interesting that Chanel being privately owned is moving in this direction. It has become this corporation being run by greed and money. Tons of collections in a year, quality issue, controlled group of x fashion designers....while Chanel beauty is barely hanging their fashion has already lost its real glamour and sophistication.
@ while I understand they are a business, you are absolutely correct. Chanel doesn’t feel as luxurious as it used to be, the entire brand is giving “Marc Jacobs” pun intended. The constant prices increase coupled with the quality issues has been a big turn off for me from the brand. I went window shopping at Harrods recently and a mini flap bag looked like it was from dhgate no kidding. The brand is so boring and lackluster
Chanel needs silence. We are already living in a very much exposed time where everyone is showing themselves. Mystery would be great and then create some magic. I am rooting for Slimane because if he takes this job. Inlfuencers can say goodbye to their so called front row seats. The same people Chanel chooses to sit front row, slimane would have never choose these people and I don't mean it bad. I know his taste when it comes to him. The whole guest list will be change drastically and maybe it's a good thing. We need more magic and mystery and less noise and over exposure. ❤
This actually goes way back. Marc had said his dream job is Chanel for well over a decade. I’m a huge Marc Jacobs fan, especially his cool girl, quiet luxury approach back in the day.
Very interesting. However, speaking from a marketing standpoint, I think Marc Jacobs has cheapened himself a bit through "accessibility" of his bags and that would not be a good look for Chanel, who is eager to remain at the top and is struggling to do so in light of Hermes's domination. I would be surprised if Chanel would want to have that association given MJ 's association (Lagerfeld, MK all had their "cheapened brands" AFTER Chanel, not before). Men's line or not, I think Slimane still has greater odds than MJ at being appointed Chanel's creative director. (watch me eat crow in a few weeks or something).
I think this is why MJ discontinued the lower priced line Marc by Marc Jacobs brand to elevate the Marc Jacobs name overall. He also discontinued the beauty line which is unfortunate. The makeup was good.
@, are you sure? Chanel I’m pretty sure he started at Channel around 1983, and his label started in the mid 80’s. Regardless, even though MJ does the lower end, he clearly has demonstrated we can nail upper end luxury.
Wait I was gonna say the same thing you did in the screen like those new season bags for SS25 👀 GORG 😍 Marc seems like such a genuinely kind person. We all know my picks for Chanel would be MK&A but he would do magic if given the chance 🖤
collaborations (which MJ is good at) is probably not the thing Chanel needs now, I can't imagine MJ at Chanel but I can easily think of Hedi Slimane and his beautiful , very french collection recently
Marc Jacobs is my absolute first choice for Chanel. I feel like he would energize the label in the way that he did for Vuitton in such a brilliant way. My second choice would be John Galliano, but I'd love if John was allowed to go back to his own namesake label, and LVMH makes the Galliano brand primarily an haute couture house so John can create on his own schedule and deadlines.
I am weirded out by this. He seems more of a fit for Balenciaga (shade intended). The classics and timelessness of Chanel is another league of design, especially haute couture.
I actually see your take on this and might be inclined to agree. Marc is one of my favorite designers but it’s beyond keeping your pulse on the commercial /street level which Gucci is proving lately isn’t profitable anymore. You have to keep the gatekeeper clients/old guard -haute Couture clients happy, which he may be too “out there” to do.
I can see why you would say Balenciaga esthetically, but if I were Marc I wouldn’t touch that Pedo job with a 10 foot pole. Sometimes people have to say enough and to me Balenciaga is one of the companies to say ENOUGH to.
They have the largest budget of any Couture House. From a business perspective it would take someone at his level to continue to make it economically viable. If they drag their feet they could further damage the relationships built.
Except the logo I have no Idea what LV clothes look like. It’s not only about bags. MJ isn’t really designing any longer really. Well lets see if him directly asking for the job will get him the jb
If Marc Jacobs get the job, it means Hedi wasn't interested. Chanel is the best maison to finish Slimanes job, he always admired Gabrielle Chanel s work and Lagerfeld adored Slimane and this job would be so perfect for him but yea, we can't look in his mind or heart. I'm a bit worried though... I just hope Slimane is not ill. Marc Jacobs is okay but not perfect for Chanel. ❤
I think at this point Chanel should do Guest designers or Pick 2, have them present their fashions as the collections for 2025/2026 and let the customers decide the direction of Chanel. That way Chanel doesn’t piss off the older group that spends and perhaps can find someone that has a healthy mix of Street/commercial appeal and can still meet the demands and styling needs of Haute Couture. I mean you have a whole archive to dig through and your own style approach, I’m pretty sure you could mix something old with something new and find that happy medium.
Chanel hasn’t asked Marc Jacobs because he hasn’t been able to create anything relevant in recent years. The block tote with “THE TOTE” no thanks! His recent collabs look atrocious. He’s been banking on the nostalgia of his past collabs but he hasn’t been able to offer anything fresh or exciting. At least Galliano gave us something to talk about
Although I love Galliano but he can be problematic on a personal level(previous scandals) and he created not 1 but 2 ICONIC handbags for CD and Hermès which are Premium Lux Houses. Will he be enough to stop the bleed at greedy Chanel? That’s an awesome question.
Marc Jacob’s would be good, sure. He’s talented. There are a lot of designers that could fill the position. I know I’m biased but the job should go to Hedi Slimane. If Hedi will not be designing menswear anymore, then he better be going to Chanel. I guess I’m still processing Hedi leaving CELINE. Sophia Coppola would also be better than Marc. Just my selfish opinions.
He might be a mainstay at that brand if given the opportunity. This assumption he might be given the job is a bit far fetched. His past few collections have seriously swept me off my feet. Regardless of what goes down it's mostly a waiting game. AT the very least the beginning of next year, we might hear something . longer than that possibly after summer. There is no rushing in this search clearly
Chanel is purely living off of name and reputation at this point. I wonder if their thinking that they don’t need a creative design director for while and will just push previous work already completed by Virg to see if customers revolt?
@@tarreemhacaruso2687 Oh god don't scare me! The brothers have internet, I'm sure the other higher ups know what people think. Not much changes when they pick a designer and the designer ends up leaving for whatever reason. A ten year contract can definitely allow someone to leave their "mark" (pun intended) on the brand. Anything is better than the casket wear Chanel had those young girls wearing on the last show..😬🤦

@tarreemhacaruso2687 touch'e. Burberry's Creative director is a great example of your theory. Its not best for brand identity when they switch C Directors so soon regardless of how good or bad sales are. It's rare they kick someone out so early but not unheard of.
