Bro why are people hating on violas.😭 I’m a violist but admit it guys, 99% of the people hating on the viola can’t play that on the viola. probably because the viola as an instrument is quite hard to get a good resonant sound out of. this subjects many violists to really dig into finding ways to maximize good sound. since this is less of a problem with the violin, it’s not uncommon for violinists to be more lax about keeping strict technique to resonate well.

yeah screeching out echolocation on e string great repertoire not saying violin is a bad instrument some violinists just tend to be overzealous in the fact that they think they’re the best instrument. i wouldn’t brag about being a violinist
As a violinist im actually curious to how violists read their scores. Do you just play the notes on the scores in the same string and position that violinist would play them? Cuz for example the octaves part, the score was a C octave on the violin (played in third position on the lowest 2 strings), the violist played at the same position but was flaying an F octave instead. Edit: i just remembered violists have a different clef on their scores (c?) But i still don't get how they read the scores
We read music the same way violinists do, the notes are just in a different place on our instruments. In this video specifically he is playing what is written down a fifth to make it better for the range of the viola (since this is a violin piece). However what he’s doing is not what usually happens, if we want to play a piece for another instrument on the viola we will make or find an arrangement that has already make the range adjustments for us so we can just read what is on the page. He is just doing it this way since it is very short and he likely already knows the piece. And yes, we read in alto clef most of the time which just puts the notes in a different place on the staff. So in summary, same notes, different places on the instrument and the staff. I hope this helps!
@@stellarxnova6660 still kinda confused, but at least now i know what he's doing isn't normal practise. One day I'll grab a violist friend to get to the bottom of this, but thx anyway!
@@el760 so basically he is reading the treble clef as if the viola were a violin. This isn't normal practice, as violists normally read alto clef. Alto clef, middle c is on the center line, instead of octave up b, so a ninth lower. This accommodates a viola's range much more, as in treble clef we would have to go four ledger lines below the staff.
@@el760normally we read alto clef. We also have to read treble clef because parts get too high to be legible in alto clef. In this video he’s playing the exact same thing, but a fifth lower. Because the viola is a fifth lower than the violin, he’s playing the all same positions on the same strings as the violin, just sounds a fifth lower.
Normally violas play in alto clef, but when going high on the A string will read treble clef as to avoid lots of ledger lines.
