Yay! I was waiting for this video! Glad to spark the discussion... Respectfully, the Sister's hairline appeared to be thinning/receding. There was literally no hair where the Dr. was injecting. It seems this current obsession with edges /baby hair is becoming pathologic. Again, these industries are scrambling to recapture the $$ lost because of BW reclaiming their natural hair care practices.

Good morning! Thank you so much for your comment on the last video that sparked this one ! ☺️
Y’all do not miss a beat , lol, I was not going to comment or “expose” the women in the video, but it was the first thing I noticed, not to mention her hair looked like it was pulled very tight in that hairstyle.
I have no problem with slick edges, ( within reason ) I do it myself, but for someone to go to the extreme of getting 20-40 Botox injections at their hairline is so extreme and unnecessary.

    • @MT-yx5cu
      @MT-yx5cu Год назад +2

@@KlassicallyKept it was 25-40 units-not injections😊, but I thoroughly agree with you. There were really no edges there to lay and I wonder if it's a side effect from the Botox (as they mentioned in the report) along with the tight hairstyles.

Even the 'conventional' ways to 'SLAY' your Edges can cause _thinning!_ I served and I worried more about maintaining a 'Relaxer' and not going Bald while I PTed, shared _communal showers_ and many times _crawled around in the dirt & mud_ with my fellow soldiers!
I am Natural now and have been for years but I am also at an age & point that I'm not CARING what ANYONE thinks about ME OR MY HAIR! I say to them, *_GET A LIFE, PREFERABLY YOUR OWN!_*
Outside of the RANT, this is a 'Cosmetic procedure' and for those of us BLESSED to have 'Health Insurance', if you have a serious or COSTLY reaction to these injections... _your INSURANCE may not cover it!_
So now you've spent maybe $600 dollars and a few $1,000 to boot?! Nah Sis!

Really! I've been natural for more than 15 yrs., I twist my hair, put on my hat and sweat like a pig when I take my walk. As I've gotten older I appreciate that this hair is still on my head with all the abuse I've subjected it to. I finally realized I was never in control of my edges or hair that reacts to the weather. It is what it is.

I would HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND botox for edges. Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands in the follicle. So your hair follicle will most likely suffer from dryness and also not receive any signals potentially terminating growth and eventually fall out. I am in my last year of Medical School to become a Medical Doctor. And to ALL MY SISTERS PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!

Hello Bonnet. Congratulations on medical school.
You bring up a very valid point and one I did not think of. This may be why women are experiencing receding and thinning hairlines.
As many people in the comments already pointed out the women in the video lack there if edges to even lay.

Very great and informative video! I honestly had no clue this was a thing let alone a trend! Our hair is versatile and very beautiful and unique, black women need to learn to embrace that! We need to snap out of the thought that our hair needs to be slayed for the gym, grocery store runs, going to bed😭 like our hair needs to breathe sometimes!

As I said in the video and showed, I do lay me my edges ( within reason, I don't go overboard ) but its not all the time, they dont run my life, and I can leave the house without them being laid.

Maya, this botox trend is absolutely crazy! Slick baby hairs and straight edges are not worth using botox. There are possible side effects using it as recommended by the FDA. Using Botox "off-label"... No ones knows what the long term effects will be. I also don't agree in sacrificing work outs to keep the hair from reverting. Hair also revert from humidity exposure which we do not have any control over. ITA...we can't allow our hair to dictate our lives. Good video. 😃

      Good morning MJ.
Good points. You point out something I was thinking about while watching this video and doing the research.
I noticed the video and articles talk about sweating in the scalp and humidity. I have been sitting outside when it is humid and my scalp is not sweating and my edges have still curled up on me.
And just like someone else pointed out in the community doctors are looking into a condition it may be linked to.

I don't use gel, edge control or focus on 'taming' my hair line. My hair is natural, its normal for it to curl, I work with it. We need to set healthy and realistic standards. Self love and health is priority.

      @KlassicallyKept  Год назад +2

I couldn't agree more sweetchocolatest. As I said in the video , I do "lay my edges" , but it is not a must and I don't do it all the time. I cant not leave the house if my edges are not laid. My edges do not run my life. I work from home, there is no need for my edges to be laid all the time.
Going to the gym always lets off steam and stress and it is healthy. To not go because you are worried about a natural reaction is bizarre to me.

I hope this is not rude or offensive to say, because I'm not sure if it holds spiritual meaning, but I love your hair wrap or turban! Is this one you wrapped yourself, or is it a slip on? The placement is just so lovely paired with the earrings, and has such an elegant, classy look!! I can never get mine to sit like this without hair pins. I would love to see a tutorial if this is hand wrapped 😭 or know the style so I can look it up. I can never get mine to look this classy and elegant, or get them to stay on my head. Maybe I have a funny shaped head 😭. You look so beautiful.

You're right- they're only doing this because we black women put other races' beauty standards on a pedal stool- we think edges that 'lay down' i.e. that are of a looser, more curl-defined texture are 'better' and more 'beautiful' compared to our natural frizzy hairlines. It's sad really.

I love the look on your face in the thumbnail, (is that what it's called?)
One of the reasons that I went natural was to be healthier by not continuing to use strong chemicals so close to my brain. So now would I have botox injected all around my face at my hairline? I can't even...
Who knows what the long-term effects could be! Not smart.
    Vanity.
I agree with what you were trying to say about cultural beauty standards, but not sure I appreciated your wording. "Live up to" is a poor choice of words. We don't have anything to live up to, or try to live up to. Some of us just still need to embrace our own unique beauty and stop obsessing over what small-minded racist people think, (including Black self-haters).
And we're not the only ones! What about collagen injections in the lips that have some Hollywood actresses looking clownish; butt implants, or tanning beds? Those are extreme examples of the lengths that some women will go to to try to appropriate the natural features of many Black women.
"Like a gold ring in the snout of a pig is a beautiful woman who rejects good sense." ~ Proverbs 11:22

I appreciate your video, didn’t know this is a trend. However , as a clinician that treats women with Botox for various reasons, it’s extremely frustrating when black women gives out misinformation or speak about beauty trends “ we don’t need” or are “euro-centric”. As a black woman, I don’t understand why we think it’s a white woman thing to do anti-aging beauty regimens and especially Botox. We spend hundreds of dollars on things like type of food, that we don’t need, clothes we don’t need, trips we don’t need. You have beautiful hair and skin. Not every woman has the same beautiful effortless features .
As for the lady in the video not going to the gym because of her hair it’s realistic. It’s not about looking white. Allow women especially black women to do what they want to do. Stop telling them to stop doing this or thinking that. It’s all about self perception. I don’t want to come out the gym and look unruly. “Natural” is not everyone’s thing. I think the “natural” girls push the same narrative as the white beauty standards. I am black , dark skinned, natural hair and I still like wigs, Botox, and makeup. So moral of the story, let us do what makes us happy! FYI, Botox doesn’t go in your cheeks, that’s filler. Hair Botox is not botulinum toxin at all, it’s a set of oils and conditioning treatments that helps to “relax” kinky hair. It’s just a play on the words because real Botox does the same in the face.
Not to be negative; love your video, but I really am disturbed when “black women” tells other “black women” what they should do. How treating wrinkles on the face that makes us look mad or stressed is unnecessary. If you don’t like looking masculine, or wrinkled then what’s the problem?
The natural gangsters are just as aggressive as the ones who push the white woman narrative. If your edges sweat and there’s a treatment to stop it, do you babes. ❤

For me I wouldn’t say embarrassing, I would say sad and unfortunate. The whole point of being natural is to let your hair be free which to me is why natural hair is so beautiful.
The lengths that some black women are going to get a certain look is quite shocking to me and I wish they had someone in their life to reinforce that they were and are beautiful the way god made them, but that is a topic for another time !
