Bro for real, I was late for the ashen wolves dlc (just finished it this month) and man, it was super difficult on hard mode, what they were on? I truly think these are some of the most fun levels of three houses, but man, difficult is an understatement

In my playthrough of this, I was loosing hard, and by complete luck, on the last healthbar of this thing, Dimitri got a crit, using a combat art, using his Crest and did 120 damage bringing it down to 30 hp I did not deserve that victory haha Classic hard is hellish in this mode
I had an incredibly easy time with this boss and my edelgard was a warrior. I just byleth, dimitri crit weapons and give edlegard a silver axe and spammed the monster effective arts. Beat it in about 20 mins give or take.

this video was super helpful. once i knew where to position my units so i could break the beast's shields on the 2nd turn, this fight became underwhelmingly easy - that or i got super lucky. either way, thanks for sharing your strategy!
freaking thank you! I spent over an hour only to lose all but three units and couldn't bring myself to start over without having an edge. from what I could gather, the key elements here are: begin with edelguard and yuri's transposing blazes + dimitri's assault troops to break all guards from the start; have balthus, ashen and hapi deal with the aelfric phantoms (never leave one alive), and from there just... heal with lindhart and yuri when necessary and maximize damage with everybody else. oh and have claude use gambit do draw the attention to himself
your vid helped me, gambit's a real blessing and grouping them the way you did in 3 Houses made my team a real pact and no one died tho things do change and the bad guys popping up is so random. Thank you for teaching me a better way to fight in this game. It taught me to trust the characters a lot more then I did.
I remember hearing Miklan say "What the hell!" in the main story. Never thought I'd hear "Sure as hell," in the side story, especially from Yuri of all playable units. You'd think Balthus would say that.
SPOILER! Funny enough out of all the chapters number 3 was by far the most excruciating for me, I ended up having to kill every enemy because I was afraid of the keyhole traps.
Yeah, on mine Hilda and Constance kept getting extremely powerful crits whenever I would use them. And Ashe would come through with crits when I was in a pinch at the end. He got killing blow, which was awesome.
While I admit chapter 4 was absolute hell on the difficulty, the rest of the game isn’t terribly difficult. It’s annoying at times but I never found it to be impossible or anything like that. You just have to abuse terrain and enemy agro
I barely beat this on my first try. I was one warp away from loosing half my team, edelgard hilda and Lyndhurst had already falled but the beast was on its last legs too. By some stroke of luck my allies decided that they suddenly wanted to start criting.
Oh my god, thank you so much. I followed your steps as best as I could, and I got a ton of lucky Crit hits (a double Byleth and a Hilda). Finished by 10:19.
I nearly broke all the armor my first time playing the lvl but I failed. Looking up a bunch of tips I kept seeing ppl saying you only need to break a few panels so I tried that and failed a ton more. Copying the first few rounds from this video I finally realized the key IS 100% breaking the armor because then it doesn't spawn back and the boss doesn't counter attack after using his AOE. Rest of the battle was easy after that.
I actually found this boss kinda easy, at least compared to the rest of Cindered Shadows. Hell, I still find The Immaculate One and Hegemon Edelgard to be harder. Probably because Aelfric causes himself to flinch. Granted, he’d nearly be impossible otherwise.
Sergeikins once he uses the super move and teleports, he can’t counterattack. At least if you broke the barrier. Not sure if that happens if you don’t.
Edelgard kinda carried me through the fight. She was a freaking good tank and her attack which does deal more damage to monsters (I don't know the english word, I'm german, lol) was very usefull. Claude was just the Phantom killer with his 2 Arrows in a row. Hapi and Constance at the other side we're just here to be here, they did kinda nothing except deal maybe 8 damage xD

I lose Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude and Ash before this final boss fight also playing in this difficulty. In consequence, I cannot beat him and need to start over since the beginning(playing on normal/casual instead).
The first time I got unlucky and the boss used the desperation move 4x in a row. I could never keep his shield broken. After watching this video and trying again, I beat him easy.
I'm not that good and this wasn't even hard. I just placed my characters in his set up and used Gambit literally every single chance I got. He went down pretty quick and minimal damage to my team
The best part of this is that you get all 3 main characters! I wish you get to choice out of all the characters… that would’ve been even better DLC… too bad… we need way more 3H DLCs man this game is the best
found this video about 97% illusions spawned in different places i got crits where you didnt and vice versa and that umbra attack was a diffrent placement to/too
a year late, but i just finished it. from what i can tell, CS is an alternate timeline where Byleth actively participates in the fight against Aelfric, while in the main game it's all happening on its own while you're out doing the main story stuff. as for the war, this obviously takes place before the war since it is in the academy phase, and im assuming that in this timeline the four never join byleth's class and therefore do not participate in it when it happens. who knows, maybe the camaraderie of working together throughout CS causes edelgard to realize that there's a peaceful way at approaching her issue with the church and the nobility. or maybe they end up meeting byleth during the war to help out. either way, it does not dive into that and only touches on a "what-if timeline" as someone else put it where Byleth discovers the Abyss and ends up helping them

That said, I fought it four times before I came up with a viable strategy, then I got through all four health bars without it attacking even once. Didn’t need to use Linhardt to heal except maybe once? Which meant he got to put in some work, too.
Lol my dumbass was playing on hard on my first Playthrough on FE3H mainstory since i like the challenge since GBA series. pretty dumb hard DLC when i tried Hard i was like what the fuck is this!?
There are bosses that are difficult, and then there are bosses that are just too difficult for what you get for beating them! I get that the relic you get for clearing this fight is a great reward, but unlike some really hard superbosses like The Twins in Persona 5, you at least get something that utterly BREAKS the game... I rate this thing as a superboss, as it's not only on par with the final boss in the base game, but you are expected to kill it at HALF the level you would be in the the main story, while not having anywhere NEAR the gear or classes you would need for it!? And i'm sorry, but the Chalice is just nowhere near good enough a reward for going through this hell, even on the easiest difficulty...
Unfortunately i had to write this one off as impossible. They do more damage to me with counters than i can heal...let alone the boss AOE spam every 2 turns that scrambles unit placement. I don't get a chance to attack him really because i am too busy healing and trying to get to him again. Absolute trash boss. This entire dlc is frustrating trash only worth getting for additional content in the main game.
Don’t give up. This is my first time playing FE, but it was interesting. At first this thing was hard, but it’s essentially just multitasking. Have healers constantly healing the mages that attack phantoms and keep warriors on the Umbral beast. I beat this first, now I’m gonna try to finish chapter 1 of the main lol.
Doing this DLC on Hard scares me, I managed to beat this thing first try in about 15 minutes on Normal/Classic, I surrounded it in a single turn and belted Gambit's into it and broke it very quickly, I was then able to destroy 3x of its 4 HP bars during the time it was completely stunned.
Ashen Wolves Difficulty:
Normal = Hard
Hard = Maddering
@fmjakc chapter 5 has farmable levels due to the infinitely spawning paladins on the edge of map next to thief leader

Crest of Cethleann gives Lindhardt the edge in CS, and he straight up outclasses Mercedes in the main game and it's really not close.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. He uses Surge every 2-3 turns, recovers his barriers when he does, and still counterattacks after using it.
Neutralize the barriers and do not let it use its staggering blow. Kill it in one fell swoop.

I got my edelgard killed in chapter 6 so i finish this damn map with male byleth and dimitri using the others as supports or healers

signerleo Snyder’s our don’t need gambits for break shields but I recommend them (no damage back). Attack the breaking tiles.
