I think they should move Europe's so it isn't right before world's. Would stop athlete's not doing it to focus on world's, would allow it to be heavier and given the respect it deserves. Then it'd be a no brainer to have it as a qualifier for SMOE (although I do agree it should be anyway). But would be nice to build Europe's up beyond its reputation as 'just' a giants live.
When would you place it? January why not February/March too close to Arnold April/May/June too close to worlds July/August/September/October/November too close to GLs, SMOE and Rogue December why not
@PetonIsVeryBloody it's a tough call. If I had to pick i'd pop it in place of the strongman open (6th of sep) or a couple weeks later, and have the strongman open be the slightly lighter comp before worlds. I know its only a few weeks after SMOE but fits better than a couple weeks before world's IMO. Possibly could have the world deadlift champs back at europes too like it used to be, with guest lifters from the rest of the world of course.
Between the lineups we see each year and how light the events tend to be I don’t think euoropes makes sense as a qualifier for SMOE. North Americas makes far more sense considering the way JF runs it is very similar to Shaw
Would love to see Richardson start a huge come back year with a win. Yes, Europes should be given that respect, still a really prestigious title. Brian putting a wee bit of a focus on driving the American strongman scene is always how i interpreted it and absolutely fair enough. Great video
Honestly if Gav comes in the same shape he did when he came 2nd at BSM, he will definitely podium. Hes struggled with the last few comps, but when gavs on form i could see him top 3 on deadlift ladder, log, and stones.
@seanoconnor1188 would love to see Gav back to his best. He looked like he wasn't happy last year. Don't know if personal issues were the problem but he is one of my favourite strongmen
The biggest difference between NASM and Europes when it comes to SMOE is brians relationship with JF Caron and the crossover between events /style of comp. Also historically none of europes strongest competitors have placed well except oleksii in 22
It is fascinating how hard it is to lift and carry sand in bags..... It sucks the air out of you and put strain on your muscles in unimaginative ways. I understand why some strongmen hate it, but I also appreciate how true a staple of strength (both physical and mental) it is👍👍
First saw Andrew Flynn compete in a Britain's (might have been uk's, I get confused) a few years ago (I think you were 3rd) but both you and him were the stand out performers. Strong but with the athleticism and grit to back it up. You for moving onwards and upwards and him for one to watch
Do you think Shane will really do that well on the stones? After a bicep tear so soon? I havent seen much of his training so i dont know but has he recovered well enough do you think?
brother are we really all thick enough at maths? assume the rest of the spots are all different athletes (unlikely but humor me here). 5 from SMOE year prior. 3 from WSM RI ASC each. top at NASM. top at SMOE open. that's 16 athletes. it's a 16 man comp. he can't have any other direct qualifying contests because he could run into having to do a 17 man show. that's it. that's the reason. he can't have 17 ways to directly qualify for a 16 man show. can't just expect overlap because there's a chance even if small that there isn't overlap. he chose NASM over ESM, fair enough, he's American, it happens, I'm sure the europeans don't benefit from having brits and esm and a bunch of giants shows in britain all the time while the americans have to travel or skip the shows, let's be real, world isn't fair, sports aren't fair and that's okay
The Europe’s vs north americas argument: let’s look at it like this. Luke stoltman is the current European champion. His best placing at SMOE is 7/10 and his last two showings he was 13/14 and dead last. Maxime was top 5 in 2022 and Trey has won it twice (past two N.A. champs)I think that shows us pretty clearly that europes is simply not a heavy enough show to where doing well or winning there translates to SMOE success.
Yea but SMOE has shown despite being heavy doesn't mean it's good look at squat which has flopped every time because of it being poorly out together and also athletes should have been lifting on test weight as apposed to the weight everyone got torn apart on. Also deadlift was poorly reffed despite lockouts, standing bench press was awful as kegs were taking ages to load at times. Its about balance GL keep the balance making sure no one gets injured tbh people would still blame GL for it like some did for Goltrys injury when it wasn't their fault in first place
@ so you say that how well the events look visually is what the invite should be based on. But you’re using the contest that’s doing the inviting as the barometer so it’s irrelevant. We’re comparing N.A. strongest vs europes strongest man. NA is more like SMOE in that it’s heavy and truly finds the strongest man, so it logically makes sense to invite top guys from that show.
Sean Gillan is definitely Dark horse here altho depending on his log right now i think Paddy Haynes is a dark horse if he can hit log for a double and get enough recovery time
Nah it was achilles tendon he done in at WSM last year during the car walk, he was about to about to blitz it then it snapped tbh before the injury he was comfortably going through automaticly
@@petershortland478 This is why strongman contests are so dangerous- I was surprised to see Trey Mitchell recovering so quickly after tearing his achilles . The strongman athletes need better pay and benefits.
I find it weird you defending Rob like that. Who’s the strongest straight guy. Strongest straight and gay woman. Adding your sexuality into stuff is just a cry for attention. I’ve always found it dumb also. How is who you sleep with an accomplishment? It’s not.
Rob Kearney used the nickname "Worlds Strongest Gay" because he was the only out gay competitor in professional strongman. He did many interviews talking about his experience in strongman, and encouraged everyone to train and compete regardless of sexual orientation. As the kids say, "Representation matters."
@@devlin76 Tom Stoltman does the same thing re: being open about his autism. Also in the world of social media and making a living from appearances/endorsements there is a need to distinguish yourself from other strongmen out there, a need for branding.
Yes, because people have been systemically oppressed for millennia for being straight. 🙄 Got your attention though. Btw how is that a problem? He competed against everyone else on equal terms. He certainly didn't get any advantage. He is however a former middleweight that went up against the biggest and strongest, and he could hang.
@anthonyproffitt5341 he cheated on his missus whilst she was pregnant and whilst the born child was ill in hospital. I think that's why Bri won't invite him to SMOE.
Pa, great fun and insightful as usual. Europe's is not an SMOE qualifier because the weights don't indicate that the winner can handle the Shaw events. Not that several of the athletes aren't worthy, but because it's close to worlds the weights aren't a challenge. The 5th place at Europe's is just as likely to be the best fit at Shaw as the winner is. Someone from that comp will get an invite through World's or a wildcats, but it might not be the winner if other comps don't show them handling the biggest weights well.
This will be my only comment from you after watching a couple of your videos now as a Strongman I always thought you gave it your all and respect for that. But the way you respond to people comments no matter how idiotic some peoples comments may be you think your responses are funny but you just come off as rude and lacking any mature intelligent response in my opinion its a shame you have to behave in this way to get clickbait truly lacks class but each to there own but personally I've lost a lot of respect for you.
Europe's Strongest Man winner should get an automatic invite to SMOE. There is zero chance that the current 16 automatic invites will all be a different person because all it takes it for one person to win two of those spots.
I don’t know why Rob does it either…when Pa is clearly a top contender for the title.

Yup JF and Brian have very similar visions for how comps should be run. Makes sense for NASM to be a qualifier since it’s predictive of SMOE potential

Thanks for the vid Pa!!!
HashBrownDoyler hasn't a clue what he's on about, that title belongs to you Pa!
Out of any of them what is your favorite thing in the event 😊
Luke definitely deserves SMOE invite. He had a great 2024 and looking the best he has ever been.
Luke’s best finish at SMOE was in 2020 when it was in Brian’s garage and only 10 men showed up. His last two placing are 13/14 and dead last. Pass
