I always focused more on Naviin in the ending, instead of Tiana.
Tiana alredy worked her entire live to get where she wanted to be, that was well established, so the more interesting aspect of the ending for me was Naviin wanting to give her the needed funding tho finally archieve her dream. He could have just as easily expected her to aline with his happy go lucky "relaxed prince" live he ha before. Or he could have left her to fight for her dream alone (not in "breaking up" kind of way. Couples just often have different goals that they work on individualy). But instead he desidet to go help his now wife. First through helping her renovait the place, and then asumingly financialy. Tiana still bought the building on her own (though threatening people to get what you want isn't the greatest thing to do...), and Naviin helped her with everything else, becouse by the end of the movie he was so invested in her dream, that it became his dream as well.
I don't see this as a bad message of "work hard, unless you find an easier way", and instead a message of A) "accept help if you need it" (Tiana needed the financial help) and B) "find a healthy relationship where you can share a passion/help each other".
Sure, they could have had the financial help come from Tianas friend, but let's be honest. People alredy complain about her for suposedly treating Tiana "lesser" (which isn't even true), what do you think people would complain abou if the only way for a hard working black women was to relie on her rich white friends to archieve her dream?

The brothers were sexist and classist. There's no way if she were an upper class businessman that they would've delivered the news of a higher bid in such a crass manner. Also since it seems impossible that Tiana would've had an adventure and get married in less than a week. I believe that's because she didn't. Returing after the supposed buy was to happen to discover the place was still for sale. She had enough and decided to return with her offer, but bring her gator friend as backup in case they tried to bamboozle her again.
Like you said Megan, the brothers didn't have final say. Which means if another buyer had already gotten the property. Tiana couldn't have stopped the sale, even with a gator as she's not seen intimidating anyone else. So it looks like she forced the brothers to send her offer to the buyer who accepted because there was actually no higher bidder. Because if they exist? Where are they? That animal acted intimidating but was actually a nice jazz player. So I don't see him eating the secret buyer. Anyway, those are my thoughts.

  • @whoviandax8053

It was actually a pretty common tactic to outbid black buyers out of nowhere. The realtors, developers, and business owners worked together. The basic tactic was to outbid the black buyer, and then once the person knows the property was no longer available, all of a sudden the deal falls apart. Or the realtors would even lie about other bids because the businesses and home owners didn’t want people of color moving it. The racism worked because it was so hard to prove the realtors and businesses were lying and judges/lawyers sided with the white businesses.

@@TheFangirlWatches It's not Lottie's story and she owns nothing. Lottie doesn't get to girl-boss because its the 1920's and Big Daddy is the one with the property and money; he does NOT seem like the type to give away money even on Tiana's dreams. The downpayment for the party was the least he could do because she was catering his favourite delicacies. He owes her nothing after that. Naveen's parents however can give her money as a wedding present because she is their family now.

I personally don't think Tiana's overall goal was undercut, just because she received help from those close to her. This is issue with trying to balance ideas like hard work ethic and depending on others when you need it, since it could come off like you're undercutting someone's hard work when I'm reality you want to help them. The main moral in Princess and The Frog, is that while hard work is important, you can't put that above your happiness as well as those around you, since Tiana was shown to be overworking to the point she was socially inept, while Naveen was so social that he was inept at actual hard work. It's why the two end up falling in love and helping the other become a better person, with Naveen helping Tiana learn to enjoy the moment, while Tiana helps Naveen learn how hard work can be rewarding. That and in the film, Naveen promises to get a job to help support Tiana, so I figured he did that to help buy the supplies, because his parents didn't give him back his wealth until after proving himself worthy. Really the only issue in the ending is the alligator bit as that easily could've been Lotti using her business skills to convince them to sell, while the events could be switched around with the marriage happening after the restaurant is built and successful, with the final shot being them catering their own wedding.

I’m not sure you understand the racial aspects of this movie. Do you not realize how negative the message would be if Disney’s first black princess, who was also hard working and driven, had to rely on a white party girl who offered nothing to the business to get a business loan? It would be worse than the already unbelievable ending of an alligator threatening them. Much worse. It’s Tiana’s movie and dream, not Lottie’s.

What sticks in my head here is one of the more recent housing crisis where they government tried to end housing discrimination, and that lead to a bunch of predatory lending to make loans available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay it back - and then we had those massive foreclosures and the big housing bubble burst. I feel like the Fenners' comment definitely singled out Tiana being poor and female (the racial bit is implied, but technically not there), and those are unfortunate facts that could have bankrupted her or left her with a mortgage she couldn't pay on. So, yes, it was not a nice comment, but, realistically, if it took Tiana that long to get the down payment, where was she going to get the money to do repairs, create the interior, hire staff, and pay the mortgage every month? Just handing her the deed and a loan would have been predatory and ethically wrong if there was no feasible way for Tiana to come up with the rest of the money she needed.

I've heard complaints before about Lottie giving Tiana the blue dress being in that ballpark too, but, I don't know, it's hard for me to see it that way, because I would have wanted to help my friend in that situation too and not have left my friend wearing dirty clothes at a party - plus Charlotte LEAVES her ball (and prince) to help Tiana clean up, so it shows us that, even though Lottie's goals are vain, her heart is not.

I always thought the Fenner Brothers owned the mill. But I guess I was wrong. I never really thought about the ending. Sure Tiana gets married and her restuarant. Although I always intrepreted it as Naveen helping Tiana acheive her goals which are now their goals. Instead of Tiana just getting there herself. She worked really hard for everything she had. So it would be plausible that she needed a helping hand and that would be Naveen. He was after all a spoiled prince and needed to know what it was like to achieve something other than just getting it. Tiana taught Naveen not everything is handed to you on a silver platter and it seems he took it to heart.

It was implied that no one was interested in buying the mill but when a woman of color finally had enough to buy it the local businesses came together to outbid her
It was a common practice back in the day for white owners in the area to purposely buy a building they had 0 interest in to keep out African American business owners and families
When teby tell her she still has a chance it's back handed because they know she doesn't have the resources to pull it together last minute it's why she is so desperate
At the end she uses the princes connections as well as intimidation to make them accept her offer because in truth there never was another true bidder

So their wording should be more "graceful ballerina" and less "bull in a china shop." They were just *asking* to be roasted by today's world. "A *little woman* of your *background?* " Seriously? @@TheFangirlWatches not necessarily, since Tiana worked hard enough for the down payment and just needed help to fully establish Tiana's Place. There's about 3 morals in the story, which are don't overwork yourself to achieve a goal, when you can share that goal with someone else as shown with Tiana working herself to the point of having no active social life, while also having the moral of not living life through money when you can use your money to make others happy shown through Naveen's change from playboy to selfless lover, and that you can't cheat to get success shown through the villains. Yes the ending could've been better if they reorganized the events so that Tiana and Naveen marry after building the dream restaurant, but it is implied that Naveen selflessly helps her financially by getting multiple jobs as well as building the restaurant with her. I feel like that alligator scene could've been removed and had Tiana's friend Lotti using her father's business tactics to seal the deal, showing how even though she's spoiled, she still learned from her father. Though regardless of these points, Tiana's ultimate goal isn't undercut just because she received help, since she still worked hard enough to get to her goal, however she still needed help. The main takeaway shown with Mama Odie is that hard work is good, but that shouldn't be your only goal in life, because it doesn't truly make you happy without someone to share the success with.

(sigh)🙄 Concerning Ariel and Jasmine, you're totally mistaken about them. You think those two got it easy? Think again. Ariel feels that she didn't fit in the underwater world, and she also has to deal with her overprotective, overbearing father. Yes, her father means well, but he can overdo being protective, you know. She's naturally curious about the human world and she's also independent. And if you think that she turned into a human just to be with some man, you couldn't be more WRONG. Ariel became a human because she WANTED to be in the human world, she wanted to experience what being a human is like. Her song "Part of Your World" says it all. Eric, the prince she was in love with, was just a bonus for her. Ariel didn't leave the sea because she wanted to be with Eric, she left the sea because she felt trapped, she felt that no one understood her wanting to be independent. In the human world, she felt happy and free to be herself.
As for Jasmine, she doesn't want to marry a man she doesn't know or love. Even though she's a princess, there are certain royal obligations she doesn't like but needed to follow, even if that means marrying a royal who doesn't love her, who only sees her as some "prize" to be won. Put yourself in her shoes. How would you like it if you were set to marry a complete stranger? Would you like it if you married someone who doesn't truly love you, who only sees you as just some "trophy" to show off? Obviously not. Nobody wants to be trapped in a loveless, unhappy marriage, and that's EXACTLY what Jasmine was trying to avoid. So if you think those two princesses have the nerve to be ungrateful for what they were born with, try watching their movies again and see how they truly feel.

@@annien.1727 Ok I'll will agree with you on Jazmine's part. You made me relate to her in a way that makes sense. So thank you :)
But I just can't agree with you on Ariel. Yes I know she's curious about the human world. I know that she wants to be independent. But that's no excuse for her actions. She selfishly and willingly sold her voice and got legs for the sole purpose of getting what only SHE wants. And that was Prince Eric. So yes she did turn into a human just for a man. She would selfishly abandon her own home and family just to get what SHE wants. So yeah Ariel is selfish. How can so many people not see that?
I understand that Triton was a bit overbearing. But people exaggerate his overbearing nature in a toxic way. Triton was not being toxic or controlling at all. He doesn't trust humans. So his actions was very much justified. If anything Triton was being a loving and protective father.

    • @annien.1727
      @annien.1727 8 месяцев назад +1

@@raven3067 Look, Raven, as much as I respect your opinion on Ariel and her actions, I must strongly disagree with what you said. You’re totally mistaken about Ariel’s actions, her love for the human world and her relationship with her father.
First of all, I said that Ariel DIDN'T turn into a human just for a man, and that's the truth. Eric was NOT the reason for her leaving the sea to become human at all. Ariel left the ocean because she wanted to be free to explore the human world, to be herself. If you listened closely to her song, "Part of Your World", she sang the line, "Betcha on land, they understand that they don't reprimand their daughters". She wanted to be independent from her father's overprotectiveness and strike out on her own. Everyone has a right to be independent, and that includes her.
And that was WAY before she met Prince Eric. Like I said, Eric was just the cherry on top. As for the deal she made with Ursula, she did consider the risks that came with the bargain. She even said, "If I become human, I'll never be with my father or sisters again". She wasn't being "selfish", as you said. She WASN'T selfishly abandoning her home and family. She did love her family, she truly did, but considering what her father did to her by destroying her beloved grotto, trying to take away her independence, she couldn't bear to be trapped by him any longer. That's why she gave up her voice and tail for legs, to be free to make her own path as she wanted.
Now, as for her father Triton, he is a BIGOT. A narrow-minded, xenophobic BIGOT. He THINKS he’s doing the right thing, but in reality, he’s allowing his bigotry and overprotectiveness to put a strain on his relationship with Ariel. He THINKS he's doing the right thing by keeping Ariel under the sea, but in reality, he's unjustly robbing her of her independence. Unlike Ariel, he believes that all humans are bad and barbaric, but that isn’t entirely true. It's like saying all foreigners are bad and barbaric which, of course, isn't true. There is such a thing as toxic parenting, mind you, and Triton has it in spades. He may be a mighty and noble king, but he's a misguided, stubborn father. Triton was the one who's being selfish, NOT Ariel. If you honestly think Triton's actions are justified, then you would be justifying his toxic parenting, xenophobia and narrow-mindedness.
All birds need to leave the nest as they grow older, that's the way the world works. Ariel is just a teenager who wants to be independent. She's 16, obviously. Sure, she did some reckless things to do it, but I don't blame her at all. In fact, I could relate myself to her in a way. I too want to leave my parents' house and strike out on my own. So, I believe that it's really unreasonable to call Ariel's actions "selfish" and "ungrateful". You don't have to agree on this if you don't want to, I'm just pointing out the facts.

The problem I've always had with this movie is the image of happiness that everyone is pushing on Tiana. Telling her that you need to meet someone and get married or you'll never be happy. Tiana is happy when she is cooking, and she doesn't need a man for that thank you very much.

I actually told my stepsister not to let her daughter watch this one until she's much older. I hated, *hated* that the movie strongly implies that wanting to work hard is wrong. And I didn't miss the implication that Tiana had to be willing to sell herself in order to get her dream. In my opinion (feel free to ignore) the story arc of "Princess and the Frog" is worse than the early Disney princesses, because Tiana starts off like a real character. She's not some fantastical dream of a girl with a fantastical dream of her own, she's a real, down-to-Earth person with a plan.
Sorry. I didn't mean to vent at you. Thank you for sharing!

Hey! i love that tangled ending! Eugene sacrificed himself for her in cutting off her hair. The witch died because he did that; he rather free her her and die than have her a prisoner her whole life and live. He could look for her when he got freed from the chain but there's no promise that he will.

Do you not see the point of view that it is Rapunzel's hair, her power, her autonomy that Flynn took away from her? She might have rather had the hair over the boy, Rapunzel didn't get a minute to think it over for herself. And, if this wasn't a bad way to write the ending climax, I don't think Tangled The Series would have formed an ending where Rapunzel cuts her own hair as a power move.
