Burnham can say what he likes - the country is £3 trillion in debt, when Labour come to power, swap rates will increase and the debt burden will make us all a lot poorer. There is no money for footy ground rebuilds.

Why should the glazers who have never put a penny of their own money into the club have taken over a billion out and put the club into a debt of over a billion get public funds? A 25% stake in the club is roughly the same as the cost of a new stadium the glazers should be told to exchange a stake in the club for a new stadium and the improved infrastructure!

The stadium is just one part the Trafford Wharfside project that will deliver new homes, new businesses, new heritage park, new tech park, new businesses, new community hubs, new jobs. It's the wider Trafford Wharfside project that will get government or local funding, not the stadium itself.
If thats the case then only Mnchester United Fans should pay.
1) Taxpayers paid for City's stadium, and lots of the infrastructure around the Etihad, and they're owned a gulf state with almost limitless wealth. I don't remember non-City fans being given the option to not have their taxes used.
2) United aren't asking for funding for the stadium.

Amazing how many people don't understand. It's not about the stadium. United would find the money themselves for the stadium. The public money would be for the regeneration of the area around the stadium and the refitting of utilities in order to attract businesses, build housing etc, creating jobs. This is pretty standard stuff for projects of this scale.

@@t2d748 The Government has been cutting its funding for local authorities, which is why so many are getting into financial difficulties. The national debt is out of control, much of it is index linked, when Labour come to power, swap rates will rise and we shall get poorer as a country. The idea that any funds can be given for foot stadium or surrounding infrastructure redevelopment are simply Liss Truss economics.
There are more important things to fund in this broken country... like actually paying doctors fairly. Smart boy
