Saw it today. Theron is astonishing.
Megan Kelley's response is really worth a watch. I thought it was (the film) really good and I agree the Rupert Murdoch was excellent casting. The music was brilliant too.
The whole time I can't believe that Charlize Theron. The makeup Department deserves an Oscar nomination for this film.
It won the oscar
They should definitely do one of these about the toxic culture at the BBC.
that would be a can of worms
With the royal family involved too.
@@TheStanley1000 I think it's fair to say Fox News is more than "remotely" right-wing!
Is this from your personal experience? Do you work there?
"This is the justification..."
It is impossible for any news broadcasting organisation to be impartial. The ability to select or ignore news stories by itself imbues it with editorial power. For all its nastiness, an openly bias network is at least open. Ignorance or denial of such is far more dangerous.
"A fire broke out yesterday at the elementary school. No students were hurt. A spokesman for the firefighters present said arson has not been ruled out." Done.
CNN: "A fire broke out yesterday at the elementary school. No students were hurt. A spokesman for the firefighters present said arson has not been ruled out. President Trump's whereabouts at the time of the fire could not be accounted for. "
Pretending impartiality is a problem, but so is not caring about it. Just because you can't achieve perfection (or anywhere near it) doesn't mean give up on trying altogether. Both archetypes are bad in their own way.
Typo there, (presumably because of "A Hidden Life" from Walt Disney Studios)
Bombshell is actually from Lionsgate, not Disney.
because the ending was public knowledge i wish it was non linear and having it unravel for viewer
Flappy hands score - 9/10
Now I'm not calling Jay Roach a copyist but Bombshell surely has been influenced by Adam McKay's recent satires. I wish more time & focus was given to Megyn Kelly, it would have resulted in a better film &
Charlize Theron would've definitely won her second Oscar
Stephen Gibbons he mentioned the Big Short
I believe the screenwriter Charles Randolph also co-wrote The Big Short. I don’t think Bombshell is as reliant on 4th wall breaking satire, and depending on what you think about Bombshell and McKay’s two recent films, that can be a good thing or a bad thing.
Great review, I enjoyed the movie particularly the magnificent cast and performances.
Love Margot Robbie's acting, and will have to check this out at some point, but it sounds like a depressing watch. Am I right in saying this is by some of the people who made The Big Short?
It's not depressing at all. It's weirdly uplifting and I think that's one of its big faults.
I enjoyed this though it was jarring jumping from carefree moment to awkwardly horrific ones with barely a beat in between. Noticed after almost every time a man shows harassing behaviour he is apologised to. Awful.
True, though that may have been the purpose of the editing, to jar the viewer just like the real thing should jar people
Id forgotten how good too die for was...…..it caused a bit of a hooha at the time...…….it was as good as its hype ,like pulp fiction...…..im gonna watch that tonight. ta for reminding me!
I hadn't heard of this movie until clicking on this review a minute ago. Pausing immediately to google the movie, I saw the poster and thought, "The woman on the left looks just like Megyn Kelly," before realising that it was Charlize Theron playing Megyn Kelly.
0:01 DISNEY??????? I thought it was Lionsgate
It is Lionsgate
I came to the comment section to find comments about the movie and I'm finding more comments on impartiality and BBC.
just me, or did Mark neglect to outline the film's plot?
What even is this?
not just you. I have no idea what this film is about
Its obviously some sob story about how they have to blow Roger Ailes in order to beat out the competition
I‘d suppose it‘s about the me,too
CKGoldiing - Because that was already covered in Simon’s interview with Charlize Theron.
Me and the other 3 people in the multiplex, probably enjoyed this film. Megan Kelly character was good, and I particularly liked the right wing vibe it portrayed throughout the Fox news offices. Overall 7 out of 10.
I think he was trying to say that the BBC should be impartial.
I know people are saying they're not... I wouldn't know, I'm not British.
WhiteWolf496 it’s exactly because they’re impartial that the partisan morons on both sides think they’re not
@@kicka11 Anyone, or any organization, that claims to be impartial is lying to you.
Right wing folks think the beeb is lefty liberal and lefty liberals think it's skewed to the right. So it must be doing something well. I like to mix it up and watch the news on different channels to see the differences in coverage and get a balanced view but on the whole i'd say the beeb does a good job of being non-partisan.
What does he mean with Malcolm McDowell brings baggage into this movie with his role?
I'm clearly missing something here.
Probably because his most famous role (A Clockwork Orange) is one of the most detestable film characters ever.
@@austinbach3731 So they haven't seen Caligula then? 😂
@@JG-kk1mr 🤔Ok, that actually makes sense. The way Kermode phrased it, made it sound like McDowell was involved in some scandal or something.
I'll wait for Netflix.
I'm sure the film-makers are devastated...
@@MattSingh1 and Who are YOU?
BBC is hardly impartial in practice - at least not their news departments. It's a myth that it is biased against conservatives though as often the editorial line of the BBC follows the news agenda laid out in the press which (increasingly heavily) leans to the right. This is because of cuts to funding which would enable them to have a more independent news agenda. If I'm wanting to be charitable you could say it's just biased in favour of the whatever the status quo or establishment positions are because why swim against the tide and potentially get more people complaining. To an extent this is inevitable, perhaps even understandable, but it has detrimental effects. Read Manufacturing Consent yall.
Duh.
BBC impartiality, lol I didn't realise Mark was a comedian as well or maybe a historian...
so weird seeing "Walt Disney Studios" lol
No less a 12A rating.
If you still think the BBC is impartial Mark u need to wake up!
Not when hes being paid ..
Never have I wanted to watch a chin so much
Weasel news
BBC impartiality ?
BBC impartiality?..long gone
Wow we have more comments about bias than the actual movie
Kidman is ridiculous choice as Gretchen. Gretchen is thick AF .. Kidman is slender.
Yes those Fox women were hot. Gretchen, especially, was my kinda woman, physically ... But she's some piece of work. - The `harassment`, she endured was never mentioned, until her *contract (for her 2:00 pm show)* was not going to be renewed.
@@analystzorncasteel3047 if she came out with it sooner her show would have been gone anyways, did you not watch the film? I know as a man you wouldn't relate to the workplace harassment but it's clear why most women won't speak out to men in power
- Hey, IDIOT - I didn't say she wasn't harassed. ... The point is she wasn't (very) irritated about it. .. She was upset they weren't going to extend her contract ... even though her ratings were ⬇️.
To say this world is getting more and more binary (leave/remain, conservative/labour, rural/urban, immigrant/native) I think, though far from perfect, the BBC does a good job at its impartiality.
Didnt like this at all. Has the message you should sue the boss if they harass which is fine in principle if you are rich like the women in this movie, have a great case and expensive lawyers. Unfortunately most people don't and with the tribunal system as it is in the UK the odds are stacked against a win, the bosses usually win and you can end up unemployable. This movie glossed over the reality for most workers in this position.
I think you would have to have an interest in the subject matter for this sort of film and I don’t so I doubt I will watch this. BBC impartiality is hilarious. “The corporation’s own pervasive left wing political culture imperils its impartiality” Robin Aitken
not as good as titanic or avatar
It's about sexual harassment...it's not in anyway comparable to Titanic or avatar. They're completely different subject matters
BBC impartiality... Ok.
Ever mention jews at all?
BBC impartiality...don’t make me laugh🤣
The right say the BBC is left. The left say the BBC is right. Which suggests a degree of impartiality to me.
I thought the film was pretty great but I do think the satirical edge sort of dampens the toxicity of Fox News. I get that it's the story of the scandal and not focused on the politics etc but it lacks a certain bite. There are some brilliant scenes where punches are thrown and land heavily. I feel like more punches could have been thrown. But, yeah, I still think it was pretty great. Excellent lead performances
This isn't correct (the Right says everything is biased as a strategy) and its terrible logic without that to begin with (your not even looking at the details).
impartiality....bbc....really?
BBC is not impartial on Brexit & Trump
BBC impartiality!!!??? You're 'avin a laugh! The pretence of impartiality and objectivity is much more dangerous than wearing your ideological beliefs on your sleeve.
This was a pretty abysmal movie. It didn’t do a good job of examining why Fox News had so much toxic behavior- they boiled it down to just MEN and not the ENTIRE Conservative environment based on the values of the Republican Party. None of the performances were memorable and the makeup seemed a little underdone and sloppy.
And pray, which of those values exactly are you referring to? Are you going to tell me that Matt Lauer, Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, Roman Polanski, and on and on are all conservative Republicans? Give me a break!
Did it have anything to say about Laura Ingraham and Jeanine Pirro?
@@butMydesign have you ever watched fox news
@@worrywart1311 not at all
@@mmmallory33 That's not an answer.
Horrendously partisan review by ‘impartial’ BBC employees.
I assume this comment's a joke.
Dreadful review for a terrible film that felt like an extended SNL sketch.
