Very Nice! I am a musician of over 45 years. I started with the lady down the street from me who gave piano lessons to anyone who wanted to learn. The cost was $3.00 a lesson. I continued my music studies through college. I now live in a rural area of North Carolina of which I have not met ONE young musician, mainly in the churches, who even knows what a scale is. That means, when I tell them what "key" a song is in, and then tell them that I am running a certain progression, it separates the musicians from the true musicians. I have led many musicians to websites like this and told them to start from the bottom UP, and learn what music is. I wish this kind of stuff had been available for me back in the day. Oh yeah, with all the knowledge and performing that I have done, I am practicing this lesson. God has Blessed you, and you are sharing your Blessing with us. What else can I say.
you are utterly changing the way i feel the instrument. Keep it big and bright fellow, you are changing people's life, no doubt ! Thank God I've found you, pure motivation. Greetings from Argentina !
Finally! A lesson from KC that I can play right off the bat. I went to the keyboard and got through C on my first try. I then tried A flat, and though a little slower, I pretty much got it on the first try, and it was fun, and felt good under my fingers. I'm sure this little exercise will be a regular part of my practice routine for at least a few weeks until I have it down pat. We are hugely fortunate to talented, caring people who share their knowledge with fellow lovers of music. Thanks, KC!
You're unlocking the music of the Lord, and the harmonies of David! Thanks be to God, in all things! The numerical graph in the upper part of the screen is one of the most useful teaching tools I've seen yet.
This is a great exercise for diatonic understanding of a key. A great barometer for how well you really know a key. Also, works AMAZING on the vibraphone. Thanks
Very great tutorial! I'm a strong believer of developing strong basics instead of just playing tons of tricks. This is super solid foundation stuff, even for advanced players.
Wrote it down, this made my day, 4 minutes, than tired collapse; next time, now I play it, on motif and korg SV 1. Other exerc. are not fouznd today. Thank You.
Thanks. This a good variation to play from right to left & exercising falling baseline. most piano movement from left to right. This gives you nuance like old classical piano play.
Love from Lagos, KC. I just bumped into you some 45 minutes ago and I'm wondering where in God's world have I been! I guess I'd stop letting people call me a piano player for a bit. I'm starting over... Thanks also for the encouragement you give at the end of each video.
Learning Something New The Correct Way Is Always Best Coz When You Finally Get It It Stays With You. This Video Might Have Been Uploaded A While Ago But Im Happy I Came Across It Coz Its Helping Me Now :-) :-)
Really nice exercise that will help you remember the different major scales. It also makes for some cool voicings and improvisation. “I surrender all...” That has always been one of my favorite hymns. That reminds me, I love to sit down and just play from a hymnal I have. Very therapeutic.
Thank you, on the rebound,2 years or so.Some students are analytical learners.Such may become future theorists. As said amazingly powerful exercise. Application of the circle of fifths/fourths over roots and fifths....... in the LH. So students keep studying. ... don't give on yourself, patience ,enjoy every moment of the journey.
If you really know your keys IN YOUR HANDS, then this should be relatively easy for you. But having an ACADEMIC understanding of music is INFERIOR to a TACTILE knowledge of the keys in this particular instance. The ONLY way to get a TACTILE knowledge is through the PRACTICE of certain musical components like scales and arpeggios(broken-up chords). In other words, until you form a fingering system(for EACH key) to play this exercise in, it WON'T be easy to play and you'll be hitting and missing AT BEST. So let's get started everybody!!!! I LOVE a good challenge and it's waaaaaay past the date for me to get any free stuff. But I'm STILL really pumped up to learn this. HaHa!!
Something that might help others as they practice this, is to first run the exercise chromatically, to learn the 12 hand positions, so to speak, with which all the scales will be built. It reduces the problem. First run through the triad position chromatically; then add the inner third, while still running through the scales chromatically; then build the scales with the now-familiar sounds and hand positions. These are riveting sounds.
Brother I just wanna say you awesome!!! I watch a lot of your videos and they very basic yet deep which is what a lot of piano teachers lack in their tutorials. Keep the good work bro. God bless you!
+prettysimplemusic Is this Kevin KC Conley? well I'll just say that because I'm a beginner, it has taken me yesterday and today to get just the key of C down with this exercise and I'm just going to C sharp. This exercise is unbending my mind, so it must be good, a good challenge. Thanks for uploading it.
SIR KC Thank you for this exercise.. i cant believe im just seeing this exercise.... Coolest way to do a 251.. awesome exercise.. i wish it had more notes thou... like 2 notes on the left hand while the right stays same...i just added it to my routine, 12days goal... 1 key per day.... thanks once again. #prettysimplemusic
Am learning alot from you.I got one challenge.I do not have my own piano so i have sneak and borrow my pastor friends. That is the only challenge am having now but you are great
HI there. I just found your channel. I love this exercise. I am gonna go through this exercise tonight. I love it. Thanks for sharing. I immediately subscribed.
I don't know where to start with my comments, not just about this video but about KC. I am well aware that words will never be able to articulate my innermost feelings about you as a person and about everything you do. The internet is a global market place where it's really hard to find well-meaning people. There are thousands who simply want to sell their wares. One thing I want to say is that I have been watching you for sometime and the amount of content you simply give away is completely against the grain. Someone else in your shoes will be selling it for big money. But not only that. There is a GRACE about how you do things. I can't articulate it (as I thought I'd struggle to) but God knows. All I can say is that you are my answer to years of prayer. Believe it or not. God will send certain your way to fulfil His Will concerning your life. In my case, the day I saw the first video of you, I praised God all day long. I have bought out the whole of your videos and the amount of free stuff on your website is unbelievable. I may not know many things, but one thing I know is that having all the learning resources is useless without the HUNGER to be the best I can be. It has taken me over 20yrs to realize this. But I'm here now. I'm ready. It's time to be that which the Lord has purposed for my life. I pray one day I will have the opportunity to further talk to you. @dmlkeys
So is that offer still on the table if I send in the video? I have C,F and Bb(somewhat) down and could probably have the rest down With a good week or 2 of practice. Appreciate you again!
Hey KC I trust that all is well with you. I tried this in Bb for the very first time. And you can best believe that I had to take it ,... SLOOOOOOOO 😂🤣
TODAY IS APRIL 20 2016 AND I JUST GOT TO WATCH THIS VIDEO AND I AM NOT BAFFLED SO I HAVE DECIDED TO LEARN NOT JUST TO WIN THE PRIZE BUT FOR MY OWN PERSONAL MUSICAL ABILITY. I TAUGHT MYSELF WITH THE GRACE OF GOD TO PLAY AND MOST KEYBOARD PLAYERS TELL ME I AM A ONE PEICE BAND BY MYSELF. I GOT OVER 200 SONGS COPYRIGHTED IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS AND I SING AND PLAY AT THE SAME TIME. I WOULD LIKE TO ADVANCE MY PLAYING ABILITY TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF PLAYING . I PLAY BY EAR AND READ SHEET MUSIC, KNOW THE SCALES AND THE CYCLE OF FIFTHS, ETC. I ALSO DELVE IN PLAYING THE ORGAN (HAMMOND B3) WHICH IS MY FAVORITE INSTRUMENT. I AM ALSO TRYNG TO LEARN THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND THE BASS GUITAR AND THE HARMONICA. I AM PLANNING ON AUDITIONING FOR THE 2017 VOICE SEASON. HOPEFULLY I WILL GET IN AND IF I DO I CAN TRULY SAY THESE YOUNG FOLKS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY SING THEIR SOUL OUT BECAUSE I AM GOING TO GIVE THEM COMPETITION. I AM 64 AND TOOK LESSONS FROM ARETHA FRANKLIN; ELLA FITZGERALD ; DINAH WASHINGTON PLUS GOD GAVE ME THIS VOICE AND I AIM TO USE EVEN IF I DONOT WIN I STILL WONT BE A LOSER. I GOT TO FULFILL MY DREAM ON STAGE. BUT I THANK YOU FOR THIS LESSON I AM OFF TO THE KEYBOARD. GOD BLESS YOU.
Kevin, the way you teach online is easy to follow. Although English is not my mother tongue, but it can be learned... it's not the barrier. Basically, I am a bass player and started playing piano since 2007(self-taught) just because our piano player was left the church and there is no one else playing piano in my church anymore. I'm not a pro like you or any other player in many churches but at least I understand the very very basic chord used to play piano especially for my church ministry. Recently, I thinking to upgrade my piano skill through the formal lesson whether it's an online source or just a video media bundle. I want to be able at least to master the jazz basic chords lol lol lol. I saw your web page anyway... could you please recommend which bundle fit for me to make a started? Thank's
Hi - KC Thanks for your sharing! the execrise does sound great, but you haven't mentioned how it works out in my playing. Would you please explain further?? Good luck!!
+Huang Ivan It builds your muscle memory and awareness of the major scale - hence, the "Diatonic" scale... Can you play this in every key? If not, then you probably aren't as familiar in every key as you'd like to be... Much love and thanks for watching!!! :)

At last - someone who knows that it's off his own bat (NOT BACK)! It's a cricket term, not an osteopathic thingy. Gnaaaaaargh. End of rant.
Simon Harris I’ve never heard anyone say “right off the back.” Also, I always figured that was a baseball thing. I’m gonna stick with that.
You're unlocking the music of the Lord, and the harmonies of David! Thanks be to God, in all things!
The numerical graph in the upper part of the screen is one of the most useful teaching tools I've seen yet.
This was like a ray of sunshine . I'm self taught but I've played most of my life and this was a big revelation for me. Thanks so much.
This is a great exercise for diatonic understanding of a key. A great barometer for how well you really know a key. Also, works AMAZING on the vibraphone. Thanks

- trying the exercise on C : ah, this is easy
- trying the exercise on C# : throw the keyboard out!
Thanks. This a good variation to play from right to left & exercising falling baseline. most piano movement from left to right. This gives you nuance like old classical piano play.

I really like how u teach sir!!! u make easy so a basic piano player can understand!!! respect bro
I’m in awe every time I watch one of your videos. Very creative. Thank you 🙏
Man... that's a beautiful progression under "I surrender all." I can't stop repeating it.
Thank you, on the rebound,2 years or so.Some students are analytical learners.Such may become future theorists.

This is one of the best piano drills I've seen.
You make beautiful sounds using simple methods. Thanks for this great lesson!
This excercise looks easy but it's not. This really keeps you honest about knowing you scales and keys.
very easy..lol

Its like starting on a Interval of a C inverted chord sans the E.

Hello
Thank you for sharing such an instruction video. Do you have a video that has such steps for key familiarization? Thanks.
hey man i just want to thank you for the knowledge..
Where has KC been.... it’s been a long while I heard him play on PrettySimpleMusic.
Hello KC. Once you have translated into Japanese , I think it explosively popular in Japan comes out . I think that sales also grow steadily!!!!
Great video on Diatonic
Gostando muito das sua aulas... tenho aprendido muito com sua dicas.
Hm! Five years later, but trying this today!
Hi - KC
Thanks for your sharing! the execrise does sound great, but you haven't mentioned how it works out in my playing. Would you please explain further?? Good luck!!
