Bob Dylan keeps on giving .. The Past the Present and the Timeless fragility of the human condition and our relationship to nature to ourselves to each other and beyond ❤
There's something magnetic about this song. It has a certain feel to it and haunting melody that leaves me wanting more. Naturally the lyrics are rich and deeply inspirational. Another gift from the man we all love.
All Dylan folk know there are so many amazing songs of all genres that he has written, or re-written on the live stage, it's virtually impossible to pick favourites, it can change from day to day, the man is a lyrical and performing genius, unique, a one off, irreplaceable, the likes of whom we will never see again and still plying his magic to this day
Amazing song. There's a great demo version of this too that you really really need to hear. As rough as it is, there's an ethereal, otherworldly quality to it that differs from the official version. Also, I believe the melody in this song inspired REM to write Everybody Hurts 👍 For me, this, Blind Willie Mctell, Dark Eyes, & A Series of Dreams are some of his greatest underrated or non album 80s tracks
i don't know why, but this song reminds me of Judgement Day. I've heard other people perform it, such as Nora Jones and Emalou Harris. But the version I like is the performance by Lizz Wright.
Watch his interview on 60 minutes where he more or less says he's literally inspired. This one hit him in an overwhelming way, he was writing down words and music as they were given to him. This stands alone in the world of music, in a class by itself. I heard there was some jealousy on the part of big name book writers on the award of the Nobel Prize. Be realistic people, who else could have written this poetry and put it to a beautiful musical arrangement. Certainly no other English language author.
If you wanna REALLY know what that scene was like in the 60's watch Inside Llewyn Davis. Its...depressing, but it captures the essence of Dylan. (The movie is a bout a cat...and extreme guilt, depression and lost talents )
If you like original, contemporary Christian songs, check out Carrie Underwood. She is a country music artist who also has some songs of faith that are excellent. Another who writes Christian songs as well as sings is Amy Grant. She is married to Vince Gill, who has a beautiful tenor voice, and did a duet of 'Amazing Grace' with the aforementioned Ms. Underwood. You might have already reacted to it as many have.
This song is from his Christian Phase. I am not a Christian and I could never be one, because it is an ideology that I detest down to the core of my being. However, this song brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. Dylan almost succeeds in making Christianity palatable to me... and that to me is amazing... actually this song is infused with Hindu mysticism which is all about attaining Enlightenment by Seeking the Truth, not the puerile Christian notion of Salvation by Proxy.
What an amazing comment! I cry as well. Spent over 10 years as an atheist. Quantum Mechanics destroys all philosophies, utterly and completely. All that's left is religion. Over a period of two or three days God gave me the faith to believe in Jesus. Sounds circular, I know, but philosophy and logic create that reasoning. A mystic will "get" that.
Here's the Biblical connectio... every hair is numbered.... Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:26-31 NIV)
IMHO the first four lines are from the perspective of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The last two lines are the summation of a Christian's perfected/completed faith.
Hey Beautiful Lady, I've missed you. Perhaps I just wasn't watching or our Demonic Overlords (RUclips) were doing there Demonic Deeds. Anyway I love YOU. And thank you for being on Jehovah God's Beautiful Green Earth! Xxxooox! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Dylan has never played the harmonica as passionately as on Every Grain of Sand. His magnum opus in my opinion.
A true poet, and a great chroniquer.
I think this might be Dylan's best harmonica playing. Nice reaction.
one of the finest from the finest.
I get so emotional with this song. “In the fury of the moment, I can see the Master’s hand.” The whole song reduces me to tears.
It's a beautiful song. I love the accordance, the lyrics and melody.

It's hard to pick just one "best" Dylan song, isn't it?

Try Dylan’s “Restless Farewell”.

Check out “Precious Angel.” It’s also from his gospel phase. One of his only songs that actually brings me close to tears

The harmonica is amazing. Only matched by the harmonica on 'Just Like A Woman'
