【岡山／日本三名園】岡山後楽園／元禄文化を代表する大名庭園 - Korakuen Garden in OKAYAMA, JAPAN / Michelin Green Guide Japan ★★★ -

後楽園は、岡山県岡山市にある大名庭園。日本三名園のひとつに数えられています。岡山藩主の池田綱政により貞享4年（1687年）に着工し14年の歳月をかけ完成しました。岡山市内を流れる旭川を挟み、岡山城の対岸の中州に位置しています。後楽園は、江戸初期の元禄文化を代表する庭園で、国の特別名勝に指定されています。藩主が賓客をもてなす延養亭を中心とした池泉回遊式庭園で、岡山城や周辺の山を借景としています。江戸時代には後園または御後園と呼ばれましたが、明治4年（1987年）、一般開放する際に後楽園と改められました。
太平洋戦争中には食糧事情の悪化に伴い、園内の芝生部分が畑に転換された時期もありました。昭和20年（1945年）の米軍の空襲により、延養亭など貴重な建造物の多くが焼失してしまいます。終戦後、園内は進駐軍の宿舎となり、園内にプールが造られるなど一時荒廃しますが、進駐軍の撤退後、岡山県は2億円の費用を投じて園内を本来の景観に復元しました。昭和29年（1954年）からは一般に公開されるようになります。昭和42年（1967年）には、園内の全ての建造物の復元が完了し、後楽園は往時の姿を取り戻し増した。
御後園は、昭和27年（1952年）に国の特別名勝に指定を受けました。また、平成21年（2009年）にはミシュラン・グリーンガイド・ジャポンで三つ星の評価を得ています。後楽園では、四季を通じて様々な行事が催されており、無料のボランティアガイドも観光客に好評です。

Koraku-en Garden is a Daimyo garden located in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture. It is one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. Construction of the garden began in 1687 by the feudal lord of Okayama, Tsunamasa Ikeda, and took 14 years to complete. It is located on a sandbar across the Asahikawa River, which flows through Okayama City, on the opposite bank of the river from Okayama Castle. Korakuen Garden is a representative garden of the Genroku culture of the early Edo period and is designated as a nation's special place of scenic beauty. It is a garden with a pond and garden path around the Enyo-tei, where guests are entertained, with Okayama Castle and the surrounding mountains as its backdrop. In the Edo period (1603-1868), the garden was called Goen or Gogoen, but in 1987, when it was opened to the public, it was renamed Korakuen.
During the Pacific War, the lawn area of the park was converted to fields due to the worsening food situation. In 1945, many of the park's valuable buildings, including the Enyo-tei Pavilion, were destroyed by fire during an air raid by the U.S. military. After the war, the park was temporarily devastated by the U.S. military, who used it as a dormitory and built a swimming pool inside the park. After the U.S. military withdrew from the park, Okayama Prefecture restored the park to its original appearance at a cost of 200 million yen. The park has been open to the public since 1954.
In 1967, the restoration of all the buildings in the park was completed, and Korakuen was restored to its original appearance.
Korakuen was designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty by the government in 1952. It also received a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide Japon in 2009. Various events are held in Koraku-en throughout the four seasons, and free volunteer guides are popular with tourists.
