Better than the Dragon? Wayah Road!

  • Wayah Road in North Carolina flies under the radar! It's overshadowed by the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway which are very close by but it is a road that doesn't get the credit it deserves. C'Ville bill and I road the Dragon in the morning and the skyway just before this road and when I think back on the day this road is on an equal footing with those two famous roads. This road has plenty of curves and isn't crowded like the dragon. The road is 30 miles long and connects Topton NC to Franklin NC. If you plan to ride the dragon set aside some time for this road as well. I hope you enjoy this video and if so please make sure to like, comment and subscribe to the channel.

I don't know if it's better then the Dragons tail. But it's beautiful and would be a Perfect training road for beginners. Then move to the Dragoon. But yeah definitely a great ride. Thanks for sharing brother. I subscribed

When you mentioned its off the beaten path and you like it to stay that way, I couldn't agree more. If its on a available printed biker map it will get noticed. The whole area around Waynesville/Ashville is asphalt heaven. Get a Delorme brand paper map. Phone reception is spotty. It is laid out county by county. If the road looks squiggly on the map its gonna be a good one. If the elevation lines are tight, your going up and down hills. In the Elkhorn Ky area we spent 1/2 day doing switchbacks on tar that was like a pool table. Plenty of fuel, not to many restaurants. If you see a mom n pop place stop in. Always memorable, friendly and full of info.

So many people go down there and try to go fast when there’s so many beautiful things to stop and look at or just look one down the road. Always remember you’re usually about an hour away from any help if you have phone service.

It is a great ride, unfortunately when I was there back in October it had rained overnight and had been a bit windy, and many of the curves were covered with wet leaves! Not so much fun as it could have been. From Franklin I rode all the way up 28 to Deal's Gap, that was a blast.

Another nice road. If you’re over by Asheville is the ride to chimney rock. Also over by the back of the dragon look up Copperhead Road. That’s from the song and the moonshiners it’s in the middle of nowhere you go over the hill to the top you have to look it up, it’s all the roads are beautiful. My favorite Road since I ride a dresser and two up Hass to be the foothills Parkway. Sweeping guards and the new part of it is just beautiful. The dragon is a lot of hype. I mean you have to ride it but stay off on the weekend,

There are so many roads equal or better to the Dragon down there, the dragon just has the reputation. This is one of the better ones. The ride by the river is unmatched

This is definitely a great ride, and a beautiful ride as well. My buddies pronounce it much differently than you do but still not like the locals. I used to live in this area and the say it like warrior without the R at the end . Wayah.

My friend and I found Wayah road organically on our last trip. It's amazing, perfect pavement with the river alongside you. Also a nice gravel hillclimb to the top of Wayah bald halfway through it. It isn't as good as the dragon for raw corners per mile count, but its still very twisty and has much less traffic than the dragon. I'd say overall more fun because of the less traffic.
Anybody hitting Wayah road check out Santo Nino mexican restaraunt in Andrews for lunch. It's cheap and good. And it's fun because the inside looks like the inside of a gas station or convenience store which gives low expectations that are contrasted by it actually being quite good.

Ya great place I live up here all year round not far from the Lakes end marina/restraint. We get a lot of bike riders on the way to Deal Gap which is the Tail of the Dragon. Please be careful as not only Bikers but getting more Hi-Performance Cars (You know the expensive ones) they also are heading to the Tail. Were also getting more of the min Coopers. They often hug the center line and at time cross the center line on curves so be vigilant as you enjoy your ride, we want you to enjoy an come back.

Thank you sir for bringing back great memories of my teenage years. Cannot wait till I get moved back home and ride these roads as an adult. No better place on earth as far as I am concerned. Right on, ride safe brothers and keep it between the ditches.
I learned to drive on these roads, running shine. Where you stopped and did the video scan on the BlueRidge is where me and my bros would stop and relax with a cup o coffee and a fat doobee. It's beautiful.

Go down that little road to the right at 5:55 next time. Thank me later.
Also, for those who want round trips from R’ville: come back from Franklin on 28 - almost as twisty as the Dragon but with driveways so go easy.

Yes nice , we are local and this is why we don't want tourist to find it , you immediately on a road you haven't been on way over the speed limit , there are no 60mph parts to this road , ruin this road just like the dragon.
