Singapore is not just a financial hub… it’s a tech hub, MNCs hub, transport hub and also a high tech manufacturing hub in one.

    Interesting.
To analyse Hong Kong and Singapore, you've invited 2 Hong Kong analysts to give bias analysis that seems to skewed data to favor a predetermined narrative.
Why would you use 2021 data for Singapore to compare with 2023 data for Hong Kong?
Seeing the portfolio of both of the experts (Sharnie Wong and Patrick Wong), it's no wonder we're seeing that many self-masturbatory articles that isn't quite grounded with reality.

  • @maxp670

Singapore does not compete with Hong Kong per se, we are striving and competing within the global economy. I hope Hong Kong people stop using Singapore as an excuse and start thinking of other aspect of improving their economy. Don't just use your financial , wealth management and property sector to drive growth and development. Your Per Capital GDP is well behind Singapore. Why ? Compare it in this way. Look at what Singapore offers as it competitive edge and see if HK government can do. Singapore has high tech manufacturing, Biomedical and pharmaceutical, Transport hub, air and sea logistic , IT and Smart nation initiative , Artificial intelligence and Constant Research and development,. Singapore invest heavily in high tech education. See what Singapore has done beyond your own development. Those elements are clearly missing in Hong Kong economic development goals. The most important thing is to stop comparing and start working your own goal of enhancing your economic growth and development.

😅 Hong Kong had ONLY the Property and Financial Industries to talk about. While our Independence and Sovereign Country, Singapore had a very dynamic, very responsive and very diversified Economy structure with so many sunrise Industries. In fact, Singapore had already beaten HK in the Financial Hub ranking not so long ago. 😅

    新加坡和香港不能相比,因为金融领域只是占了20%新加坡的总体经济。而金融领域占了香港经济大部分到了几乎生死攸关的情况,所以不可能再相比了。

Hong Kong has never had the diversity of home-grown industries that Singapore has. You can ignore the political turmoil of the past few years, and you can even ignore the handover. Before 1997 or before 2019, HK has never had those things since most of its domestic industries left for Guangdong Province in the 1980s. Since then has always been leaning on real estate, Chinese exports, Chinese IPOs and also some tourism, these are the crutches that Hong Kong struggles to grow out of.
Part of the reason for this is that Hong Kong has never been a country. Unlike Singapore, which was forced to develop its indigenous industries or face languishing in long term poverty, Hong Kong was a colony built to exploit the rise of China, a role that is increasingly obsolete as China doesn't need much of HK's talent anymore.

THe race is already over. THe downward spiral for HK began lst yr. after the re-opening -businesses have been going bust steadily.. epically.
All the big money from mainland has already flown to Singapore and elsewhere. China will prioritised Shanghai or SHenzen over HK. Meanwhile the flow of money into Spore has jacked up property prices exponentially.
Game Over HK. Even your film/Song industry will not recovered,

    Singapore's 2023 GDP was $673 billion.
