    Great tips for those just getting into family photography! I'm watching this as I edit a recent family session. LOL I use several of these ideas for family sessions myself. I've just started bringing small animal figures to sessions with young children and tell them I have a surprise at the beginning to get them interested, then give the toy mid-session for some excitement and then tell them they have to hide it behind them or in their hands or I'll steal it back. It seems to help in getting nice candid smiles a little faster. I usually do shots of the parents at the end when the kids have gotten tired of the process but I'm going to try the idea of starting with the parents to see how that helps get the kids interested. I love that you can always learn something new to try!

    Thank you. I'm from Russia. I do not know English, but everything is clear. You write aperture, shutter speed, iso-it's convenient. To you of success and successes. Wrote through an interpreter)))

    The mom is so pretty! Beautiful pix of the family!! Also as a mom of a 3 and 1 year old family portraits are actually sooo stressful for me. The best session we had was on the beach bc the beach was like a big sand box for the kids and they enjoyed playing around & didnt mind the "photo session" part!

    After watching this video, it is a HUGe curiosity of how many photographs you take in a session like this. Like this one, and what you do typically. I take about 190 photographs digitally, and try to go no more than 2 rolls of 24/36exp film. From that, I aim before I even shoot to get 4 shots that I deliver printed, but have them look though maybe 4-10 shots of each look, or of the shoot if there are extras. Film really gets me to (this is my talk to myself, not to you or anyone reading this

    Thank you Irene. May I ask, at f/2, where did you focus?

      I always focus on the face, eyes

    • @LtDeadeye
      @LtDeadeye 7 лет назад +4

      I'm sorry, perhaps should have clarified my question. Of the three faces, which at times were on different focal planes, which did concentrate your focus. The closest face, the center face or a favorite face no matter the position? Thanks again for taking your time to share and educate us!

    • @juxtaposedmultiplicity7372
      @juxtaposedmultiplicity7372 7 лет назад +3

      LtDeadeye good question! I need to know that too :P

    • @IreneRudnyk
      @IreneRudnyk  7 лет назад +8

      As you can see in the picture I always position the subjects in one plane, so it doesn't really matter on whose face i focus ( most of the time on the middle face)

      I find an external light meter is usually unnecessary unless your camera doesn't have a light meter or you're using an external/multiple external flashes. Set your aperture, take a few test shots, and adjust your other settings accordingly
