    I use celery, carrot, and onion, as a base for most soups. Then you have a marinade that might have celery, peppers, onions, etc. I adore using the leaves. They have such a nice herbal flavor that's so underrated and is very pleasant in soups, especially potato/lentil types

    Wrap the stalks with a paper bag or something that blocks out light. Continue to cover just the stalks as they grow. That's how to get tender, pale stalks. Dehydrate the leaves and use them in cooking for a great celery taste as well.

      The reason celery is healthy is from chlorophyll. It only gets chlorophyll from the sun shining on it, not thru a paperbag. Also, Vit D (a hormone) deficiency causes mental illness. Theres many with mental illness & instead of giving them Vit D, they give them antipsychotics. The Sun is GOOD.

    • @susanflohr8529
      @susanflohr8529 11 месяцев назад +1

      Is that to protect the celery once it becomes hot outside?

    • @janiekaye8317
      @janiekaye8317 11 месяцев назад +3

      It's to keep the stems away from the sun so they can't use the chlorophyll to turn green. This makes the stalks more tender. You definitely don't want to block light from the leaves as it needs the chlorophyll to feed the plant.

    • @sylviasandy

    How do you overwinter celery in colder climates?

    • @sylviasandy
      @sylviasandy  11 месяцев назад

      You can put them in your garage under a grow light. Or you can put them in a green house. A grow light is like an improvised sunlight. Here's the one I use: amzn.to/3FKKylz

    Thank you! I’ve tried this & failed but you answered my question. I’m planting at the wrong time. Have u tried wrapping it so the stalkers r creamy & softer? I won’t even buy commercially grown celery. It’s been hybridized so much it doesn’t taste good any more.
    I bot a bag of apples & it’s the same thing, yucky tasteless. The deer like them tho😋

    One video shows grow bag and cement to make big planters. Cut drain holes before adding cement!

    When grabbing something hot, you do NOT want to use a wet towel; while it may have worked in this situation as the metal was small and not holding much heat, a larger, hotter object will cause steam to form, which can be just as bad as touching directly.

    Why do you not wrap paper round the lower part of the celery. This makes it whiter and thickens the stems.
