  • After Kennedy's assassination, the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated Marcello. They came to the conclusion that Marcello was not involved in the assassination. On the other hand, they also said that they, "... did not believe Carlos Marcello was a significant organized crime figure," and that Marcello earned his living, "... as a tomato salesman and real estate investor." As a result of this investigation, the Warren Commission concluded that there was no direct link between Jack Ruby and Marcello.
House Crime Committee investigating organized crime in professional sports, hears testimony of Carlos Marcello of New Orleans, said to be head of Mafia there.
Appearing before the House Select Committee on Crime in June of 1972 Marcello repeated his claims that he was not involved with organized crime.

A man like Carlos Marcello did not get where he was just by being mean.
He did lots of favors for people. He arranged business deals. He arranged help with things. If he was like other old school Mafiosi he donated to the poor.
I live not far from the home town of Kelly Mandarino. Mr. Mandarino was allegedly a friend of Russell Buffalino.
Mr. Mandarino made it his business to donate to charity and the poor box at Church. He donated holiday meals. He gave the poor coal for the winter.
These men controlled stuff, offering favors, controlling local business activity. They had to keep up good PR.

I do not condone criminals, yet who can judge another. The Kennedys are social reformers, with a bootlegging, adulterous patriarch, Chappaquidick, etc. My failure to do "dirty work" for so-called upstanding professionals in academe torpedoed my career. I have had honest work since age 12. I am a very educated, older Black lady. My best paymasters were mob types before and since college. Alvin Karpis' housekeeper observed this too. You know what a mobster really is, unlike slimy phonies.

He's good at stonewalling. If you look up Russell Bufalino you can see similar skill. There are interviews of the real Russell Bufalino here on youtube.
These guys were interrogated many times by Police. Back when police could slap you around, holler, keep you awake for hours on end.
I wouldn't answer either. My customers aren't on the witness stand. I cannot protect their privacy but I sure can drag it out.

@@goddard976 He was born in Tunisia in route to America, from Sicily to Sicilian parents. His father was already in America as the father left earlier to secure a job in the States. He arrived in Louisiana as a baby. That is why he had legal trouble later with citizenship and the Federal government tried endlessly to deport him, because he wasn't "born in the States" like his younger siblings, but rather on the way. They were very much Catholic as is almost all of South La, especially the Nola area.
