Elden Ring not launching after recent patch FIX (for Linux or Steam Deck users)

- This is a temporary fix until FromSoft fixes the issue with the latest patch. This seems to be an issue with EAC so this temporary fix is to bypass this. Of course that means you'll be playing in offline mode until the issue is entirely fixed, that's why this is a temporary solution.
echo "%command%" | sed 's/start_protected_game/eldenring/' | WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" sh
Simply paste the above command into the launch options for Elden Ring and you should be good to go. I got this command from a mod page for Convergence so if you have that installed you'll need to temporarily relocate or remove the mod for this to work entirely.
Sorry for the low audio issues. This is just a quick video because I want others to enjoy the DLC as it's come out.

I've reached customer support for this issues and there is absolutely no indication that anybody is working on it. The answer I got was "I am sorry to hear you have been banned. Unfortunately, the game does not support any other OS other than Windows, which would explain why a ban has been issued."
To my current knowledge, bandai doesn't see this as an issue, they are not working on a solution, and you've been permanently banned from any online activity in Elden Ring.
Its working for me thanks
This helped my dad, thank you UnknownVan!!
No problem. Unfortunately this did not help Yepski.
Hi, I've been having a problem with the controller's rumble not working specifically in Elden Ring. I've tried all kinds of configurations, nothing works. The controller I use is an 8bitdo ultimate.
hey, just checking do you have the setting enabled? In the settings for elden ring there's an option in "game options" labelled "controller vibration". If it's at 0 then it won't vibrate.
i follow your guide but when i launched the game, it not pop up easy anti cheat window, it go straight to game, white screen then closed. Can you help me ?
hey sorry, I didn't see this comment but have you tried validating the files? It's possible that this could be because of a bad update or something similar.
i tried everything i could and it didnt work so i refunded the game, i didnt validate the files. But thank you, your guide help me bypass the anticheat.
it didn't work for me, it still says sometimes "steam app is not responding" while most time it just doesn't say anything
Could you paste the code here in the commands please again. It’s actual not possible for me to copy it. Thanks
echo "%command%" | sed 's/start_protected_game/eldenring/' | WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8.dll=n,b" sh
@@UnknownVans thanks a lot 👍
For all: this code works for me:
env -u SDL_VIDEODRIVER %command%
@@christopherbruhl7105 windows?
@@UnknownVans no, for Linux on steam Deck.
not work
hey after a bit I got elden ring working 100% without issues myself, are you still having problems? Anything I can help with?
it says windows cannot find echo
@@Zickzy. Ah, this is for Linux systems which use different commands from windows. Give me a bit and I might be able to find which one to use for windows.
@@UnknownVans oh thank you man
@@Zickzy. So have you tried this one with renaming files? I haven't had any luck with this personally but maybe it'll work for you since you're on windows:
1. Go to the Steam library location where you installed Elden Ring.
2. Go to steamapps > ELDEN RING > game.
3. Rename start_protected_game.exe to something else. (I added "_original" to the end of the file name.)
4. Make a copy of elden_ring.exe.
5. Rename this newly made copy to start_protected_game.exe.
6. Run the game through Steam as normal.
These steps have worked for me when I ran the game through windows.
Otherwise someone else suggested switching the back slashes with forward slashes (replace '\' with '/'). Not sure if this one will work or not but it's worth a try.
If none of these work for you there's also a mod I found in nexusmods you can give a try. I can't verify whether or not it works because it seems to be for windows specifically but it might be worth trying if these other two above don't work:
www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/90?tab=description
Let me know if any of these work for you. Good luck!
I did not have this issue.
Make sure you have installed the steam proton tools installed.
I am using the GE Proton 9.5 and since few days the GE Proton 9.7
Work better than on Windows.
It was weird because it was working the prior day before updating the game, and other games still currently run without issue. I'll try reinstalling the tools and see if that fixes it maybe. But yeah prior to these issues it was working better than when I used windows.
@@UnknownVans I am currently playing it.
I have not yet experienced any issues.
I do not have any linux experience prior to this, I am of little help :(
@@CowCatwithafancyHat oh no worries at all! You were actually quite a bit of help, I thought it was a problem with everyone who uses Linux because that's what I saw others saying online who were having similar issues, but now I know. Thanks for the help!
@@CowCatwithafancyHat I swapped to Linux Mint recently and I have no issues now, just wanted to update you.
this did NOT help me but it would if i was on linux or steam deck
It helped shifty's dad
Did you find a fix I’m on steam deck
