    Great video it got me through the install on my 2020 Crosstrek. Getting the lower control arm back together nearly killed me. I finally had my wife slide the bolt in once I got it lined up. I don't think I could have done that part myself. Everything else was no problem on my own. My alignment shop has been around since 1984 and has seen just about everything. They really liked the kit and said it was one of the best they'd seen. No problem getting it to spec. All ready to hit the Oregon dunes!! Woooo Hooooo!!!

    My kit for a 2021 outback arrives Thursday, I installed it in the driveway in about 4 or 5 hours, without disconnecting the rear lower control arm a long jack handle and just a little pressure on the upper control arm allows the old strut to come out and the new one to slide right in with the sub frame lowered.

    Waited three months to get this setup for my 2018 crosstrek. No fault of Ironman 4x4 due to current logistical issues. I used this video to put the lift on myself with a friend. Took me a bit longer than what they said. Closer to 6 hrs but I also had 50k miles, 15 states, and have been living in my car for 6 months. My advice. @@adamcrane3126 The Iron Man was actually much better built than stock so the ride actually improved quite a bit. • @adamcrane3126

      @@eat_sleep_boost5569 So would you say it's softer or firmer than the stock? I am coming from Lifted 4x4 which was too harsh for everyday driving and kinda don't want to go firmer than the stock ride if you get me.

    • @eat_sleep_boost5569
      @eat_sleep_boost5569 Год назад +1

      @@adamcrane3126 Much softer on pretty much every surface but firm where it needed to be if that makes sense. Best way i can explain it is sharp little bumps at higher speeds it soaked right up, great on road manners. The slower speeds over rough terrain the suspension remained rigid like typical offroad suspension does, but never harsh. Honestly this is what Subaru should have put on all of their SUV/Crossovers from the factory but since most people use them as grocery getters and rugrat haulers they put a cheap garbage mushy stock setup.

    • @Ironman4x4America
      @Ironman4x4America  2 года назад +2

      That is correct with any suspension lift and precisely how they work. The lift provides more room in the wheel arches for the fitment of larger diameter tires. It's the larger diameter tires that give you a ground clearance increase, not the lift. The lift will help with improving approach, breakover, and departure angles.

    I just completed the installation on my 2018 Crosstrek. I'm generally pretty handy, but often struggle with car work, and this was a bit more of a struggle than I anticipated. A couple of things caused me trouble. First, the bit about leveraging the control arm (goto about 28:30 in the video) by removing the inside bolt absolutely did not work for me. There was no way I was going to push that into place. So, I had to take off the outside bolt, re-attach the inside bolt, then put a jack under the outside part to get the bolt inserted (no amount of jacking would work to align the inside bolt). That was a big time-waster for me.
    The other trouble I had was the rear swaybar (starts at about 23:20 in the video). That seems like an easy thing, but it actually gave me the most trouble. That was partly due to Ironman sending me a wrong part which caused a lot of confusion (they do deserve credit for immediately sending the correct part when I finally figured it out and contacted them). If you notice, in this video, he never shows the step where the rear swaybar links are finally bolted in---instead he just says that you do that later, and then later they are magically connected. I had to do it in the opposite order of what the video suggests. That is, I first connected the swaybar links, then connect the rubber mounts to those fancy metal extender blocks provided by Ironman. If I had it to do over, I'd just completely remove the rear swaybar (and still might), as those links look like they will not hold up to to offroad use. In fact, there is another good RUclips video on this installation (I'm sure you can find it...) and that guy doesn't even have a rear swaybar, so he avoided all of the hassles associated with that part of the installation.
    The hint in this video about the alignment bolt is amazing. My car drives perfectly, and I haven't yet gotten it aligned. I will get an alignment in a couple of days, but I'm confident that it's pretty close to being spot on.
    Anyway, the bottom line is that I got it to work. I can't wait to test it out in some tough conditions, and I'm sure it will be awesome!

    Is the swaybar link on the Ironman strut at exactly the same position on the strut as as it is on the OEM strut or has it been raised by 2 inches so that the sway bar geometry remains as original. Some spacer lift suppliers like LP Aventure supply a bracket to effectively shorten the sway bar link by the height of the lift. This prevents fouling of the steering rod at full extension.

    • @Ironman4x4America

      Hi Johnny, Our ATS suspension will provide a 2" lift for your vehicle which allows you to fit larger tires. This will get you increased ground clearance. Where our ATS kits really shine is with our 2" extended travel struts included. This gives you increased travel providing better conforming to the terrain. This results in better traction, comfort, and stability with the vehicle. This system doesn't interfere with Eyesight. Hope this helps!

      @@Ironman4x4America I came across an article about doing lifts on these cars. And it talked about these lift messing with the cvs joint and the drive shaft angle. Also adding the heavier tires messes with the handling and braking of the car. I would love to do a lift when I get my outback, but don't to hurt the driveability of my ride.

    Is it a softer ride I have a 3" adf tophat lift on my 05 forester xt at it feels like my cars slammed to the ground even with my 225 70r15 wheels setup. Had to spin my tophats because the guy that installed them did them wrong messing up the camber. Simple enough job but my control arm did fall to far pulling the cv apart and I had to get a mechanic to come to my house which seeing as he was there he replaced the old cv that already blew their boot covers twice in less than 2000km.

    I still think this is a good instructional video. However....I just finished installing these on my 2019 Outback. The front struts were easy, minus the absence of the alignment stamp mark. The back...a whole different story. The rear is quite different from the video. I now realize they missed key steps when they edited the video or even filmed them out of sequence.. Also, the differences between the Outback and Crosstrek are bigger than mentioned in the video. I couldn't have finished the install without this video, but it took some serious problem solving to complete the install on the rear.
    OH! And they are shipping the struts with SAE hardware. So the helpful tips on socket sizes are all off.

    You only did the left front wheel and you said to use the furthest left hash mark on camber bolt.
    Is it the same on the right side to use the furthest left # mark or use the furthest right # mark?
    If anyone can answer please respond. Thank you?

    2023 Crosstrek Sport
    No installation instructions in the 2” all terrain suspension lift kit had to print them from your site.
    In your installation guide, besides #15 (Carry out 4 wheel alignment, beginning with rear toe and thrust angle before completing front alignment) is there another alignment specs sheet with more information I would need for the alignment?

    I'm trying to decide between the medium load or spec-c. How much weight before the medium load sags? I have skids, rock sliders, and a tire swing mounted on a hitch with full spare, plus some gear in the old donut spot. Probably a constant 200~250lbs extra, with the majority of it in the rear, at all times. More weight when people or camping supplies are added also.

    I actually bought this kit for my 23 CT, i haven't found a set of wheels and tires I'm completely happy with. I was wondering if you knew what method wheel that's going on there and the size ( tire information would be greatly appreciated as well)?
    Everyone runs the 15x7 with a 215 75 or 225 75. I'm not going off road often at all so a bigger wheels size wouldn't hurt too much in my daily driving. Plus I just really liked how that setup looks in the video. Any help would be awesome! ✌️
