- Game seven for a place in the SHL between Modo and Leksand! Period 3 & OT. The craziest game ever. Modo wins the shots 50-18. Modo has a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes left and completely dominates, but Leksand wins!

People who don’t know, deserve the backstory to this game. This game was the climax of a completely ridiculous season for Leksand. There should really be a movie about it. It’s just so unlikely. I’ll make an attempt to summarise it but the series is quite complicated, so bare with me.
So Leksand at this time was placed in the second-highest division in the Swedish hockey system (called HockeyAllsvenskan). You can move through the leagues in Sweden, and so the goal for any team in the second league is to advance to the highest league (the SHL). Leksand is a classic hockey team in Sweden and was placed in the SHL until the beginning of the 2000’s. The small town of Leksand really breathes ice hockey, and their team means a lot to them. Their hockey team is what puts them on the map in Sweden. Ever since they were demoted, they’ve been struggling to re-establish themselves in the top league.
Almost half way through this season (2017 maybe?), Leksand was placed LAST. Everyone thought they would end up being demoted to the third league, which would be devastating for a classic team like Leksand (and for the whole community). There was really no light et the end of the tunnel. At this point they hired a new coach and started climbing the series, ending up in 5th or 6th place I think. That meant they qualified to play a mini-series against the teams in places 3 through 6. The winner here would play a bo3 against the winner of the top two teams of the series, who faced each other in the “HockeyAllsvenska Finalen”. The winner of this bo3 would get to play MODO, who finished second to last in the SHL, in a bo7 for the final spot to the top league. Still follow me? Good :)
No one really thought Leksand would go all the way here. In the last game of the mini-series, they had to beat Mora (their main rival) by at least 4 goals, or the season would be over. They won with 6-0. That was all good, but still, it was completely out of the question that Leksand would go all the way. But, they managed to win the bo3, and so it was, they were now in the bo7 against MODO.
Winning this match series though, was unthinkable. MODO was so much better on the paper. And watching the games, Leksand was constantly outplayed by MODO. After two games MODO was up 2-0 with a 9-0 goal difference. Leksand then managed to win two games in a row, making in 2-2. Then MODO completely crushed Leksand the next game with 7-1, making it 3-2. Then Leksand managed to win two in a row, with this clip summarizing the climax of a ridiculous season.
Like I said, someone should make a movie about this. I don’t know of any unlikelier sporting event than this.
Not a fan of Leksands, but my what an impressive season for them! Now they seem like they’re a great team, but would not be like this if it weren’t for this game!

You forgot the mention that they financed all this through the municipality closing schools, stoping renovations of daycares so they had to eat at an old folks home, selling them two rinks worth 39 million SEK for 1 krona, making shady deals to ensure the club doesn't have to pay taxes on tens of millions in profit(then reversing those deals after the taxation period was done!, selling shit to the club for next to nothing and then buying it back for millions. Pretty much financing the club's stint in the second tier with taxpayer money.
Goalie is definitely had a free dinner that night. Absolutely amazing play
He played like all 7 games of that series and was really a big part in us managing this feat.

I don't watch this league ever, but I recognize the MODO team name, watching them dominate puck control I assume MODO should have won this game by a land slide.

for people who might not know... Modo was the bottom team in the SHL, playing an Allsvenskan team (like AHL), for the last spot in the highest division. the ramifications are huge if you get promoted/demoted (especially economically).
I hope Modo do a comeback to shl and now there leading allsvenskan

7:7 game and like 21-9 goals in favour for MODO, yet Leksand wins 4 games. I followed this serie when my gf back then cheered for Leksand.

Hockey är inte alltid logisk. Det kan vi se här. Orättvist eller inte, det kan man tycka vad man vill om. Hockey handlar minst lika mycket om att ha en målvakt som står på huvudet, som att ha ett bra anfallsspel.
100% av puckarna som inte går in räknas inte som mål. Det är inte svårare än så ;)
That was an amazing game winner. Man went extra hyper mode to defend in the middle zone and stretched for the shot.

Yes and no. Leksand got back to SHL but was once again relegated to Hockeyallsvenskan. They requalied for SHL after beating Mora in an another unbelievable series of games in 2019: ruclips.net/video/uqJbirvVb6o/видео.html

I think the craziest was the one in Norway lasting almost 11 periods couple years back
It was sick, in terms of time. But it's just about a semi-final spot for the gold. Sparta even won that series. Here we are talking about a question about which league the team should play in, a difference of around 45 million swedish crowns. Modo should draw long before game 7 really, considering what the game looked like. They were up 2-0 in games, without conceding a single goal. Somehow Leksand manages to win the third game in overtime, where somewhere it slipped out of Modo's hands more and more. In hockey playoff, you just have to win, crush wins mean nothing, Modo with 3 big wins, Leksand with 4 wins with the odd goal, of which 2 in overtime. But this series is the craziest ever, given its importance. Had it been a question of a gold instead of a league place, it would not have been the same thing at all.
@@xrazi1394 If you want the craziest series for the gold, you should go watch NHL 2014 and LA Kings. Winning 3 series in game 7 after being down in every one of them. 3-0 in the first one

I remember in '09 Mannheim and Cologne in the playoffs where they went 168 minutes or something like that. Stayed up all night for that but I was like 14 😂

No you don't. 😄 There is no greater club than MoDo in Sweden. No other club or city have fostered more and better players than MoDo and the town Örnsköldsvik (a municipality of approx 55.000, the town 32.000). Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Victor Hedman, Niklas Sundström just to mention a few... the list is long. As far as I know the town Leksand doesn't have one single player (born in Leksand) making the NHL, I've tried to find someone but I haven't found ANY...

Yup. He was furious that his home team Modo was relegated from the 1st division in Sweden (SHL) to the 2nd division (Hockeyallsvenskan). I think he also had some management position in the team back then.

Relegation game , the winner plays in the 1st leauge the looser plays in the 2nd division next year.
The other guy have no idea what he's talking about. Not a relegation game but a promotion game. It is the second highest league (Allsvenskan) and they were playing a playoff match to reach the highest league (SHL). Winner was Leksand who got promoted to the SHL.

Yes it is hockey but I think I know exactly what you mean! But just look closely. If it was a field there would surely be some outdated farm equipment on the field. Some of Subban family or so.

Aldrig har ett lag varit så utspelat men ändå vunnit matchen. Leksand var så överkörda att det fanns inte på kartan att dom skulle vinna. Men ibland är det inte rättvist. Leksand förtjänade inte att gå upp men det gjorde dom.
med tanke på budget skillnaden som modo hade så är det dom som inte förtjänade vinna inget ont mot dig men spelar ett shl lag mot allsvenskt lag ska shl laget vinna lätt typ 8-1 9-1
@@sveaplutoner du botten av SHL och toppen av allsvenskan är väldigt jämnt. 8-1 till ett SHL lag ja om ett lag i toppen av SHL möter ett lag i botten av allsvenskan. Det är inte stor skillnad på dom sämsta i SHL och bästa i allsvenskan.

Hockey är en komplex sport. Att skapa massvis med heta målchanser är väldigt bra, men att missa merparten av dessa chanser är mindre bra. Att ha en grym målvakt är såklart superviktigt, något som Leksand hade, men inte Modo. Därför blev slutet såhär.

You know how the US national team sucks and can never win anything even though the NHL is the best league? That's because national teams can't buy players whereas the NHL is the best because they can afford (and are allowed) to buy every others countries best players.

I kept waiting for something crazy to happen but it just looked like a regular hockey game. It was a decent game but it's weird that you would think there was anything too special about it.
The thing is… in Sweden you can rank up from divisions and down. The red team was an shl team (highest division) and the white 2 highest. And after 26 of 52 games leksand (white) was last in the division. But then they swapped coaches and fought up to a playoff spot where you land in a mini series between the top 6 teams. And the last game they needed to win with at least 4 goals because of the goal diff. Nobody thought they were gonna win but they won with 6-0 and then they met Modo (the red) which is a classic club that had a good team. (Peter forsbergs team) and the white were counted out as hell because they are a division 2 team. They lost the first 2 games by a lot but fought up to game 7 where you can see them getting stomped. They didn’t have a shot on goal in the third period until 10 minutes and then this happend. It’s like a tale

Ice surface is too large; takes away from the physical side of the game. Next, the advertisements on the ice & uniforms are obnoxious. This is a prime example of why the NHL is much better than this garbage. European leagues are almost unwatchable & I’m from Europe.
The advertisements are needed for the european clubs to gain revenue (survive economically), the reason the NHL clubs don't have them is because the teams in north america are franchises. The fact that you can't grasp this is obnoxiously stupid.
