Bloodborne - Moon Presence Secret Endboss & Umbilical Cord Locations (Childhood’s Beginning Trophy)

- Moon Presence is the secret Endboss of Bloodborne. You must consume 3 umbilical cords (collectibles) and defeat Gehrman (the normal endboss) to trigger this fight. Beating Moon Presence will earn you the "Childhood's Beginning" trophy.

My weapon for this fight: Hunter Axe (two-hand version, +10 fortifications)
First you must find 3 Umbilical Cord Collectibles. There are actually 4 of them, but you can pick any 3 you want. The first one is obtained from the "Mergo's Wet Nurse" boss. You will get it automatically when beating her. The second one is in the Old Abandoned Workshop (accessed from the Cathedral Ward) and the third in the Clinic where the game started (later accessed from the Forbidden Woods). On the upper floor of the Clinic you must kill a woman and loot the Umbilical Cord from her. It's recommende to pick them up in this order as the third one won't be available until later in the game.
The fourth one is optional and highly missable (luckily you only need 3 out of 4, so you can skip this one). Before going to the Vicar Amelia boss you can talk to a prostitute called "Arianna". She is in the Cathedral Ward area, behind a door in the alleyway that leads to Vicar Amelia (left side of Plaza where the two Giants are walking around). When talking to her you must send her to the Cathedral (not the Clinic!). Later in the game, after defeating Mergo's Wet Nurse she will give birth to a child in the basement of the Cathedral (the room that connects the Tomb of Oedon with the Cathedral Ward). Kill her child to get the Umbilical Cord. If you have already engaged Vicar Amelia you cannot get this anymore.
Use the cords from your inventory right before talking to Gehrman!
The actual boss fight against Moon Presence is rather easy. Stay behind her at all times. Sometimes she won't be doing anything for a few seconds and you can bash away her health bar. Just a heads up in case anyone else was in this situation:
If you engage the fight with Gehrman and die, then go get and use the pieces of the Umbilical Cord, it will still let you fight the Moon Presence when you defeat Gehrman. Even if you die to him multiple times again, all that matters is that you use the Umbilical Cords before you defeat him.

For those of you who killed the lady in the clinic before Rom, you still have a chance. After killing Mergo's Wet Nurse go to the Cathedral Ward and kill Arianna's baby which will drop another umbilical cord. In total there's 4 in the game

I like to think the Hunter became the first Great One who actually remembers what it's like to be human and becomes a genuinely benevolent guide for humanity's future. Maybe there are other Great Ones outside of Yharnam, and the Great Hunter helps everyone else learn how to resist them... or ascend. Being raised by a doll (Mother) that understands kindness and love certainly wouldn't hurt.
Sarachi Wise Every Great One carries a third of an umbilical cord, Giving each one of them a third of the knowledge of the inside and outside world, But you had 3 and made one full umbilical cord, Great Ones are basically humans that became powerful but lost their heads in the process and that made them have weird desires and motives like to give birth to Mergo...etc, But my theory is that you became a second Kos or Kosm, Not LITERALLY the second Kos but the second Great One to have characteristics similar to Kos, Being that you have so much knowledge of human-nature even after transforming into a Great One because you consumed all 3 umbilical cords giving you the benefit of keeping the knowledge you had pre-transfromation into a Great One and not losing it, Also the fact that you are going to be raised by Doll which is speculated to be an Eldritch being herself that strangely knows love and kindness will make an even better Great One, Humans will probably abandon their old gods who are the Great Ones they worshipped before you matured, They will abandon the old Great Ones and instead worship you and you will probably be a very good God, You will make humanity prosper and since you have killed Great Ones when you were human I don't think it's going to be much of a problem when you are a Great One, That is my theory.
Note: I know I'm 2 years late but fuck it.
It is stated in the game that Great Ones are sympathetic in spirit, so it's canon that they are benevolent.
I don't know what dialogue or note you're referring to (not discounting it's there, I just don't remember it), who are they sympathetic to? Even then, would their motive or desire outweigh sympathy? Cause some of the actions of the great ones don't seem... benevolent.
No thay had to kill at lest 1 person that kind of helped you even if you choose to have the help then you have to kill German who was just trying to help by freeing you from the hunters dreem

The appearence of the moon presence was one of the most epic scenes i ve seen on a game and the character design is amazing *_* BUT the fight was ridiculous :(

There's no way to make NPCs respawn. When they are dead they stay dead. You'll have to do another playtrough.
But why the girl attacked you isn't 100% clear to me. It must have something to do with side quests. I didn't do a single side quest in my entire playthrough. Did you?

You're the first one I've heard of who's missing both cords. It was my understanding that either #3 or the side-quest related #4 ALWAYS spawns. So if one wasn't there you could get the other.
I couldn't get the optional fourth one as I never talked to Arianna in the beginning of the game and by the time I tried it was night time already. When it's night she will turn you away (and finding Vicar Amelia changes the time of day).

***** Matt Christie That is true. Around the area of the giant female wolf battle, there is a person in a home there that after talking to her twice. You can send her to the Cathedral. Once you beat the Nurse, then go back there and go to the tomb of odeon where she lies with a deformed baby (With the umbilical cord).
After doing the 5 chalice dungeons to get to queen yharnam, moon presence is surprisingly easy.
I just did it with the queen Farnham glyph glitch

***** When i back up my save on a USB before i face Gehrman and use 3 of my Umbilical Cords should i eject the USB after copying my save to it or leave it in during the fight with Gehrman? After copying your save over to a USB do you have to leave the USB in while facing the last boss or is it safe to take it out and then put the USB back in the PS4 after finishing the ending and waiting for NG+ to start up? Afterwards, you just copy your save over to the PS4 from the USB and load save?
Do you get a trophy for each ending? If so, you need that means u gotta beat the game completely??
Yes, one trophy for each ending. You can back up your save game before the final boss and then copy it back to your PS4. This allows you to get all 3 endings in one playthrough.

That's the player. Basically, you become the moon presence and the hunt continues, but you are "in control" so to speak.

You actually find 4 Umbilical Cords in the game. 1 in the abandoned workshop, killing Iosefka in the clinic when the red moon appears, killing Ariana's child bellow the Cathedral Ward after killing Micolash, and killing Mergo's Wet Nurse. Not sure why you find 4 when you only need to consume 3 to unlock the secret ending in Bloodborne.
I know I‘m 4 years too late, but it’s probably because some are very missable, and if you missed only one, you still have a chance at getting the true ending.

I'm seeing that you become a baby Great One in the ending but I fail to see how that translates into NG+. Any ideas?
Also, I think Moon Presence is trying to cuddle you as its surrogate child, but the presence of the umbilical chords seems to offend it, or maybe even hurt it. Maybe those chords gave you the power to fight (or rather the insight to comprehend) what is essentially the strongest known being in this world?
I found a cool way to stay in the regular new game play. And not new game+ 1
Step 1- consume the umbilical cords
Step 2- kill Gherman
Step 3- let the moon presence kill you. Or use the bold hunters mark
And now just do the dlc and get to the maximum level, then kill the moon presence after completing the dlc

Carlos G. Anyone that you send to the clinic dies, since Isofeka kills them for experiments. You should have sent her to the cathedral ward. Also you have to send her to the ward before killing rom or else you'll ruin your chance since everyone you didn't save by that point goes insane. I saved the old lady and the nun as well and sent them to the ward. But I ended up killing the nun since she was showing signs of losing her mind just laughing, and I killed the old lady as well since she too sounded like she was going insane. I just did it to assure Arianna survived long enough to give birth to the demon child to kill it and take the umbilical cord.
Wish I had seen this/knew about the need to get 2 other umbilical cords before I killed Gehrman... I'm so pissed that I didn't get to fight the moon presence.
What happens if you use the umbilical cords and then gherman kills you? Can you just fight gherman again and the moon presence will still spawn? Or do you need to load your backed up save and use the umbilical cords again?

you probably figured it out by now, but don't go to the clinic before the moon turns red( the moon turns red after killing rom), then she'll be on the table, wont be hostile.

Just the umbilical cord. Btw, you can pick up cainhurst summons somewhere in the clinic. When picked up, go to witch of hemwich boss battle, if not complete, kill them(easiest boss in the game) Get out of the boss area, there will be a big pillar, stand next to it and you're done.
FreekinEkin2 Also i think somewhere in the clinic you can pick up yosefka's blood, which regains a lot of hp. You can also pick it up in the chest near mergo's wet nurse boss.

Must ending three be done in ng+? I got three cords and went to fight the last boss I used three cords just so I could fight the moon presence. But I didn't get too. Instead they made me submit to the moon presence.

Hey i hope you can clear this up for me. You say to use the cords before you talk to Gerhman. I talked to Gerhman and triggered to boss fight with him without using the cords. Can I still getting this ending if I use the cords now or was I Suppose to use them before?

I did the same thing. Talked to Gerhman first and I refused, then I went back and used the 3 cords. Then I defeated Gerhman and the last boss and got the trophy.

I have the wet nurse cord and the abandoned house cord. Killed the girl in the clinic to early and can't find Arianna anywhere no idea where to look. I tried knocking on a few doors with no response. Does that simply mean I'm out for 4 cords? I only actually need 3.

Amner frias As long as you use them before killing him you should be fine. So yes, even after dying to him from fighting him, you still have the chance to consume the cords and be able to fight the moon presence after you kill him.,

Yeah. When I was streaming me beating the Wet Nurse, someone in the stream told me to have all 3 before I even get to the last boss so they were misinformed and I had to figure out myself
Does this boss have some attack that prevents you from healing? You almost died at some point near the end and it looked it wasn't letting you.
Yeah, it has an attack which reduces your hp to 1 and another which prevents healing, those two combined can be nasty.

Awesome, thanks haha I got lucky and killed it so fast it barely had a chance to do any of that :D Just got under its swings and R1 spammed
