I prefer small batch because: 1) it's much cheaper and readily available 2) variance with single barrels 3) you have absolutely no way of knowing which single barrel you're getting 4) I have chosen small batch when doing them blind before If we're talking about a single barrel private selection, which is a fairly new thing, that's a different story. BTW you have the best background music, excellent taste in tunes ;)
I just saw one bottle each of E.H. Taylor small batch and single barrel at my local grocery store today. The small batch was in the 50s and the single barrel in the 70s. I am definitely going back tomorrow and getting which ever one they have. If both are still there, then I will get the small batch for the consistency.
Dude awesome blind review. I love that you just posted this because I literally did the same tasting over the weekend. EHT SmB is a go to favorite when I can get it for around $40 so I was skeptical when I was able to buy a SiB for $70 that it wasn’t going to be worth the extra coin. But yeah the SmB for me was much younger and thin tasting where as SiB came across as straight up luxardo Cherry syrup and sweet oak for days. Was surprised they were as different as they were. I just wish BT would put more info on their single barrels like a fill & dump date, warehouse location, floor & Rick number and all that jazz like Russell’s and Knob Creek do.
Dude my single barrel is exactly this, straight cherry syrup and sweet oak. Didn’t know how I felt about it at first but I’m loving it now. Taste older than my EHT SmB
I found this posting after already pouring an EH Taylor small batch to watch the Whiskey Tribe. Just glad to have any bottle of EH Taylor, smile me very happy wid dat
Love the bourbon skirmish. Didn't really care for the EH Taylor small batch when I first tried it. Tried it again a little while later and really like it. Cheers!
I miss the days (4 years ago) when I could find these like nothing in Texas, now it’s almost impossible but sure glad I was able to find a bottle of each of these two in the past two months, small batch ($40) & single barrel ($60)
It's so crazy how availability varies from state to state. I've seen one bottle of EH in the wild in my city (not in Texas) in the last 4 years and it was $199.
Lmao! I'm glad I stumble upon your channel. Not the typical boring reviews, just some good ol country boy laying down some honest reviews and playful humor. Mahalo!
Wow! I been askinng this for months but nobody responds! You are a legend. But seriously you have helped me in getting good bottles more than just chasing the non existant bt bottles. That is too frustrating and takes the fun out of it. Cheers!
Had a Small Batch about four years ago because my local Mom and Pop store had three (?) and they were very excited about it. Bought it for 65 USD (!) and was disappointed. I poured up a sample and took it to the store owner. They haven't brought up the subject since!?!
I've heard of a lot of the SiBs being only marginally different than the SB. I was very lucky with the barrel that I had a pour of. Was one of the most unique bourbons that I've had.
I love small batch. Buffalo Trace and eagle rare don't even come close. I have a single barrel from 2019 and it is honestly one of the best bourbons I have ever had. Maybe I got a honey barrel. I picked up 2 more single barrel bottles Dec 21 and am excited to have these for the future.
The only issue with the Single Barrel is that they aren't consistent in flavor. This one was an 8 but could've easily scored a higher or lower grade with a different batch. These are too expensive in the NYC area but sometimes you find a bottle that isn't crazily priced 👍
Scored two small batches at MSRP last week. Cracked one open and it’s honestly very delicious and get the hype. I haven’t tried the SiB yet, but if it’s any better than the small batch, then I gotta keep hunting to find one.
I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a single barrel recently, and just did a blind tasting last week between these 2 as well. I had a very similar outcome! Cheers 🥃
I find the EH Taylor flavor profile to be unique. It is not amazing, but I crave it on occasion. I enjoyed the SmB but my SiB is much better, so I will only hunt for those in the future. I also have a BP I need to try but I'll wait until I finish the SiB.
My single barrel was not as good as the small batch. I wouldn't pay more than msrp because of that risk. I'd really like to try others SiB to see what I'm missing though.
Ok after further review.I get your humor.Damn I purchased Small Batch instead.Been drinking bourbon for about 6 months now I’m hooked.Coming from wine and vodka.Big cigar smoker as well.Question does single barrel provide more flavor than small batch.I know higher proof does that’s why I love ECBP .
That is what I say too about my wife. I wish she’d like me. Glad I’m not the only one. Regarding the single barrel and small batch. It will have to be the small batch for me as it is the one I can get more easily at retail.
Nicely done Matt. And the next single barrel might be different but you already knew that. I'm preaching to the choir. Cheers. Hope you and the wifee get feeling better.
Great video once again! I have a buddy who works at a liquor store and asked if he can get me some Buffalo Trace products including the E.H. Taylor SB. Fingers crossed!
I love the small batch and been really lucky to find it in three different scenarios (have 3 1/2 right now)...but I am 0 for 3 in opportunities to get any of these other E H Taylor offering (Amaranth, 18 yr Marriage, Barrel Strength & Warehouse C)...really looking forward to trying them one of these days...I haven't met a Buffalo Trace product that I didn't like.
Random question. Regarding the Obtanium light whiskey that you put the toasted oak spiral in for 7 days back a few months ago. What score would you have given it if you had to rate it? And what would like to see it “skirmish” up against
I recently scored an EH TAYLOR single barrel at MSRP [$65]. The EH TAYLOR single barrel is better neat; however, the small batch mixes much better with coke. It has a richer flavor profile. Although I heard there's differences in the single barrel [variation]. I think the single barrel is also aged longer.
I was at BevMo this weekend and the gal was opening a box of small batch and this was the first time I’ve seen it on a shelf in my area. Naturally I bought it but am not impressed. I’m not sure why people pay secondary prices for it
Ive not had the single barrel. Ive not even seen it. I have a couple small batches i got when I toured BT. Maybe i missed it but i get that the single barrel is better. But how much more would you pay for it than the small batch?
Would pay $60 for small batch and $85 for single barrel which is why I might not own one anytime soon. Love them but not enough to overpay for 100 proof without an age statement…too many comparable and available products for less cheddar.
Totally agree. Actually, I'd insert most any allocated bottle in this comment and add it to a list that I won't overpay for. Too much great whiskey available to waste money on FOMO.
I just saw one bottle each of E.H. Taylor small batch and single barrel at my local grocery store today. The small batch was in the 50s and the single barrel in the 70s. I am definitely going back tomorrow and getting which ever one they have. If both are still there, then I will get the small batch for the consistency.
Great video, Matt! Single Barrel seems the obvious choice when you can find them for MSRP. But is it as obvious when the going rate for Small Batch is between 80-100 and Single Barrel at 225-250? I did manage to pick up a Small Batch a year ago for 53.
I scored a small batch about a year ago for $49. Couldn't wait to try it because of all the hub bub and seeing it elsewhere (rarely) for $90+ at the time. So excited, but... Meh... So many others out there that are available and far less expensive than what any EH Taylor is going for these days. I still have half the bottle left.
At this point in my life I'm not paying much more than MSRP for either. I have a small batch that I got for MSRP, but haven't grabbed a SB yet. There's just too many barrel picks (yours included) that are as good or better for less money and a shit-ton less work.
I paid $110 for my single barrel. Remus V was only $89. I think I overpaid for the single barrel. Glad I had it one time, probably won't go back for more at $110.
Very good scores. Well deserved scores, too. Matt, your notes may be off a little on this one. You missed the strong "cucumber extract" on the small batch.
The problem with the single barrel is that it's not consistent, I've had some really iffy Taylor SB wile the small batch has never let me down, and for the price difference the small batch is a much better buy IMO.
Live in state controlled so MSRP 😂is the max. Im a patient fellar so if it doesn't come, there's more juice to be squozzed elsewhere. Also I've never met a patriot like you 6 Merricuhs in one video. I salute you!
I did this comparison myself a couple years ago. When I first opened the bottles I could not tell the difference. Maybe slightly more burn with one than the other but flavor-wise it was very hard to pick up any difference. Once the bottles were about half gone and they had some time to open up. I found the difference to be quite surprising
I prefer small batch because:
1) it's much cheaper and readily available
2) variance with single barrels
3) you have absolutely no way of knowing which single barrel you're getting
4) I have chosen small batch when doing them blind before

Your reviews never fail to amuse, entertain, and educate. Thank you sir!
I don't know if you know but you have a special talent to make me continue to watch even when I'm not interested. Thank you for being you.
I have to say, I’ve seen hundreds of Scotch and Whiskey reviews throughout the years and this is by far the best I’ve ever seen. Keep it up !
I just saw one bottle each of E.H. Taylor small batch and single barrel at my local grocery store today. The small batch was in the 50s and the single barrel in the 70s. I just bought 5 in a total of 30 days 😂

These are the 2 BT bottles I can readily get. Actually, I see the single barrel in my area more often…. Great video.

Congrats on 30K SUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That strong cherry cola note is the bang on note I've always pulled off the SB. I think WE should bourbon skirmish Porter.
One of the best reviews, ever! Love the originality! Well done mi amigo!
"Going to put down the colonels and take care of the general." Gold.🤣
I just came across this and I've been wondering about this for a long time period can't wait to see the results.
Thanks Matt! Hope the general is feeling better

But when you hit that banger, it's like gold!

man I love those glasses, what brand are they????
As much as I wana dis Buffalo Trace as noob whisky, sometimes it just hits the spot when your in the mood for a easy sipper. Thx for awesome reviews!
That is what I say too about my wife. I wish she’d like me. Glad I’m not the only one. Regarding the single barrel and small batch. It will have to be the small batch for me as it is the one I can get more easily at retail.
what bourbons do u most like for making cocktails? How about a cocktail tasting comparing a few different bourbon/ryes??
Just scored a small batch last week. Can’t wait to try it for the first time after dry January!
Absolutely loved your review! Super fun!
Tx for comparison Matt, still on the search for my 1st EHT, will check out the store in Mich City u suggested 👍
I picked up (2) single barrel EH Taylor for $120 each yesterday. Very hard to find in Santa Monica, CA.
I’ve only ever had Small Batch, which I was lucky to get at MSRP. My question is - what are those tasting glasses?
I still haven't seen the single barrel in RI, but snagged a small batch for $70 in MA, definitely too much, but happy to try it all the same.
Take care of the general!
Love your wit brother!
Great video! if I ever find a Single barrel id prob be willing to spend around 80ish for one
Reminds me that I have an unopened bottle of Taylor SB. I think I'll crack that tonight.
Great Job taking care of the General!! Cheers!
Happy wife............. (sneak another bottle into the house)
The tube battle!! Gotta love it…

In Canada I payed 114 with tax for small batch
It flew off the shelves so I guess in my area its not too bad of a price
Saw the single barrel around Christmas but it had a $139 price tag. Couldn't pull the trigger.
You might not think so but I’ve been wanting a review like this because my store finally had both in stock lol
Best whisky reviewer in YT. Subbed!
Difference is Small Batch is sitting next to the single barrel on the shelf for a helluva lot less 😓
Thanks for the showdown and video. General sows sicken?!?
Really enjoy your take on things.
Love the video. Edits are on point. Which glasses are those?
Wonders of Whiskey Professional Whiskey Glasses
Matt thank you for the wonderful videos…they always entertain
Hi, Matt! Thanks for the video! I've never had E.H. Taylor, but hope to be able to try some soon!
Thanks for checking in on me, Julie!!
What are those glasses called Matt?
Hey bro, I dig those glasses, where’d you procure them? I’m new to your channel and I love your style! Keep them coming!
Ive not had the single barrel. Ive not even seen it. I have a couple small batches i got when I toured BT. Maybe i missed it but i get that the single barrel is better. But how much more would you pay for it than the small batch?
Glad to see the left hand swirl
Would pay $60 for small batch and $85 for single barrel which is why I might not own one anytime soon. Love them but not enough to overpay for 100 proof without an age statement…too many comparable and available products for less cheddar.

I love EHT Single Barrel, but I wouldn't pay over retail for it. If I'm going into the $100 range there are other things to try.
Great review, thanks Matt
'Merica! 'Merica! 'Merica! 'Merica! 'Merica! 'Merica! Lmao. Love it.
At this point in my life I'm not paying much more than MSRP for either. I have a small batch that I got for MSRP, but haven't grabbed a SB yet. There's just too many barrel picks (yours included) that are as good or better for less money and a shit-ton less work.
I get. EHT every time i can for retail…Then promptly trade them for something I actually like
I recently blinded these together and could not tell the difference. Which is good for the wallet but bad for my pride
I paid $110 for my single barrel. Remus V was only $89. I think I overpaid for the single barrel. Glad I had it one time, probably won't go back for more at $110.
saw small batch for 119.00. PASS! central wi.
Very good scores. Well deserved scores, too. Matt, your notes may be off a little on this one. You missed the strong "cucumber extract" on the small batch.
There was a loud uncorking a few days ago and I actually heard “‘Merica!”. Laughed out loud and probably looked in the spectrum.
Look at you over 30k subscribers!! Well Played Sir! :)
Big enough difference to warrant a price difference?
For sure but it really depends on the price difference. At msrp, absolutely.
The problem with the single barrel is that it's not consistent, I've had some really iffy Taylor SB wile the small batch has never let me down, and for the price difference the small batch is a much better buy IMO.
What up Porter? Hope you are feeling better.
You’re almost at 60k subs. Hope you make it to 100k in 2025. Great stuff. Thank you.
You won me over at "winner by rolling oma plata"
At those stated price points both those bottles are unicorns
I thought it was weird a Buffalo trace product with not a single hint of gray penis. But glass 2 saved the day.
What tha heck Matt! Hope your wife is feeling better. Great video as always.
Good stuff!
Anyone keeping up with his top rated bourbons/ryes?
Link to the Scoreboard is in the description
Single batch secondary market in Hawaii is crazy, 300-400
That EH Taylor Single barrel is a very good drink!
"I just wished she liked me."
"It swirls a bit better." Spoken like the true expert you are..lol
Live in state controlled so MSRP 😂is the max. Im a patient fellar so if it doesn't come, there's more juice to be squozzed elsewhere.
Also I've never met a patriot like you 6 Merricuhs in one video. I salute you!
Good morning from Vegas
I love your humor
I hope the Taylor's and the wife make you feel better!

Once the bottles were about half gone and they had some time to open up. I found the difference to be quite surprising
The general tso chicken....hahahaha. Great video as always!
This channel is like mining for RUclips gold and coming away with a frickin size 13 golden boot! Is that a thing?
You, sir, are outstanding. Very helpful and extremely entertaining. It’s like listening to myself. lol
Is $200 for single barrel too much?
For me, yes
His name is Matt!
