Here's a potentially useless fact, and it's a gameplay fact. During Okumura's boss fight in Persona 5 Royal, as you know, he orders his robots to target one of your party members. The funny thing is that using the items Spotlight or Limelight, or the move Taunting Aura by equipping the Alluring Belt item, it makes a character the main target for most attacks. The effects of these items/skill has a higher priority than Okumura's orders, even if the order changed before the item/skill effect wears off.
I personally believe that Sai's treasure was a Calling Card, not the father's notebook. I say that because she seems to first start "losing herself" after thieves take out Kaneshiro - which would make the source of her distortion the thieves (with calling card being their identifying symbol).
not sure i agree. the phantom thieves dont make her lose herself, they make her jump off the deep end. The subtext is that she forgot her original goal of prosecuting the guilty to protect the innocent long before the thieves showed up, but it was the thieves that made the distortion plain enough to see that it could be fixed. To fix a problem, you have to first recognize it. Sai had the problem before the thieves, likely a result of the corrupt and broken system, but it wasnt until the thieves drove her to extremes that she could identify it. Heck, if we go one step further and analyze the fact sai's treasure was never actually taken, it proves that the change came from within. And besides, look at all the other palaces. In every other instance, it was a trauma that was denied that grew and festered into a distortion. Kamoshida was a man of unhealthy lust far before the thieves got involved. Madarame killed through inaction due to his vanity. Kaneshiro idolized cash since he was a child, and grew into a big name in a criminal organization to fuel his greed. futaba wallowed in sloth ever since she was burdened with the weight of "killing" her mother and growing to believe the lies. okumera was an evil businessman who saw no emotional value in her daughter long before the thieves got involved. Shido thought he was owed the world and CREATED the thieves through his pride. In no other instance was a distortion large enough to form a palace something that emerged on such a short scale. That is what the mementos requests were for; stopping a distortion before it became a palace. If Sai's distortion was recent enough to be caused by the thieves, it would have been resolved in mementos long before it could warp her view of reality. Sai's view of reality was only distorted in her "me vs them" view. She saw people as obstacles between her goals, but still recognized them as people. But her constant "winning" against odds she saw stacked against her gave her a bit of a larger than life ego, thinking she was untouchable and that winning was the only thing that mattered. She couldnt learn from a loss in her eyes, and it took receiving an actual loss against the phantom thieves to prove there was value in defeat and that the world is not out to pick on her specifically. Heck, it remains true even into royal content, and dont worry, i will keep the spoilers as vague as possible. The new palace ruler struggled with the loss of a loved one, and though they came to terms with their decision enough to awaken an inner power, that power was still fueled by a savior complex; one in which they would happily become a martyr before recognizing how unhealthy their view was. They welcomed pain so they could feel something, and attribute the suffering to a higher purpose.
@@cullenlatham2366 I admit it's open to interpretation. We just don't have enough information to make a conclusive judgement. And I think that was intentional - I mean, I think the question was actually directly asked at one point what her treasure was and the question was blown off. I 100% get why people would conclude her treasure was dad's notebook. There's other possibilities I can think of as well with varying degrees of likelihood. I don't disagree that she was already in a shaky state prior to thieves and that their actions just pushed her over edge. But we saw that it doesn't have to be something from far past that is the treasure when we saw Kaneshiro - his suitcase with $3M in it was a current item. Personally, I just like to take the approach of it being calling card because it gives a personal connection between her and the Thieves that I enjoy thought of. It's one of the fun things about fandoms: exploring possibilities - from the highly likely to the unlikely, but possible... to the totally impossible, but fun to explore idea of alternate timeline. (Like people that made Sumi-MC mods. Just fun to look at various things from various angles.) :D
@@ShadowService yeah, in the end, it does not really matter what the treasure is since Sai herself had to be the one to overcome it, but i do want to point out one detail of kaneshiro's treasure: children's bank notes. I cant prove how "old" the treasure is, but the fact it is children's bank play currency suggests it was something he coveted since he was young. The only thing the game states about treasures is that it is the object that signifies the start of their distortion. Kamoshida's medal gave him a big head, madarame's first abusive painting alteration showed him he could "get away" with stealing art. Kaneshiro is heavily implied to find solace as a bullied child in his play money, hoping to buy his way out of strife and creating a dependence on cash that put its value over that of the people around him, especially at the bottom of the social ladder with no one he could call a friend. Futaba's treasure is the vaguest of the confirmed ones, being some combination of a peaceful rest (coffin), her dead mother, and herself. okumera was a spaceship model that made him idolize acention that takes the form of space travel in his palace and political power in the real world. Sai's is suggested to be her father's journal for much the same reasons as past rulers; it was her father that put the love of law into her, his death that made her go on the offensive, and her grief over his death that made her loose sight of her ideals. The calling card, meanwhile, has much less meaning behind it, being at most the moment she realized there were foes she couldnt easily overcome, which is already established as covered by the proposed journal with even aketchi pointing out how corrupt and unfair the system is; she would find that roadblock just by nature of being a "woman in a man's job", and likely long before the phantom thieves got involved. Shido is the one i tend to forget, being lost in the "its over! no more threats to deal with!" atmosphere to really take note of looking at the treasure for the sake of superficial rewards, not to mention the very quick transition into the final base game dungeon. Finally, royal is a unique case, being the first dungeon where the persona user is controlled by the whims of their persona instead of directing it. They might have come to terms with their shadow, but it was at the cost of "i cant change you, so why try resisting?" They are far more aware of the implications of the metaverse, and though the treasure still aligns with all the others given focus, there is a case to be made that the distortion speaks for itself far better than the treasure ever could. They treasured the source of their trauma, their treasure just gave them a savior complex and martyr goal by "proving" they could influence the waking world. In every instance where the game spells it out, the treasure represents something far in the past left unaddressed long enough to warp their perception of reality. The phantom thieves are far too recent a development to get a full palace-worth of distortion. Maybe the thieves shaped the palace, but it was a renovation, not the initial blueprint The core of the palace remained a cognitive warping artifact from the past, the phantom thieves just made the palace more... concrete by directly challenging her world view, in much the same way treasures only materialize under the stress of a calling card pointing out their fundamental flaw. I am not denying the thieves influenced Sai in ways she couldnt recognize, nor am i denying the possibility that the treasure was something entirely different than what the game suggests as an answer, but i AM denying the possibility that the treasure was simply a "blank" phantom thieves calling card. It isnt impossible, but in my mind, there is far more evidence against the idea than there is to support it. I cant change your mind, but i can try to express those exact issues I PERSONALLY have with the theory.

But I honestly think it could still make for a great romance option if it happens later. Don't know how you would trigger it though. Also Shinya romance.

But after checking TCRF, it looks like that scrapped dialog isn't even in Royal. I'm not really sure how else that could have fit into the vanilla story. Very interesting video. At 4:38, I actually like that both endings are considered canon. Cuz Maruki isn't a bad guy trying to enslave humanity and jazz, he genuinely wanted to help. I worked in medicine, and in that time many people suffered injuries and illnesses that have no cure and very possibly still won't by the end of our lifetime, and those are the ones that left the hospital at all. We say they can still live fulfilling lives, but even so-alot of them would actually FIGHT the phantom thieves tooth and nail for a chance to have their lives back. Their legs, their hope, their loved ones' lives. There is a world where their lives weren't irreversibly (and likely involuntarily) changed or even ruined. Let them be happy, it isn't always about what you want.
While I definitely agree Maruki isn't a villain nor a man with evil intentions, the fact that he still takes away people's free will on a massive scale is still an immoral thing to do. The PT even point this out after they defeat him and how while those who live in pain can choose to be "free", those who vow to face their pain aren't given the choice to. Incredibly well-written character and a huge relief to have a sort of anti-villain in a game where adults/society are scum and treat others as scum.

I've played through Royal five separate times, and I knew most of these, yet your way of oresenting the information was so awesome that this made me giddy.
I always wondered why Joker chose to wear glasses. Didn't his initial flashback scene show him without glasses? If so, I thought the glasses might've been a way Joker chose to hide his true face from others after his false arrest.
Also in Tarot cards The Devil card represents your shadow (or darker) side and the negative forces that constrain you and hold you back from being the best version of yourself. And while everyone has that to a degree in P5. Ohya's whole plot was about being forced into doing things by her boss to prevent her from learning the truth and working on the journalism she wanted to, where as for someone like Chihaya, that aspect was a b-plot twist and their primary character/story was about fate and interacting with destiny.
Great video indeed, just a little thing, the black haired Futaba you showed was from the concept arts, as in the beginning she would have been a much more goth-styled girl, but in the end the decided to do her as we know her to make a more original character, so she didn't die her hair

2:29 … It wasnt meant to foreshadow the PC release. Games are developed on computers, so it would make sense for a cursor to appear. The likely story is that someone was trying to upload the video onto the Thieves’ Den and accidentally left their cursor on it, so it stayed that way.

Neat vid. Another useless fact is you can actually hear a heartbeat playing alongside Life Will Change after sending out a calling card for the heists.
maybe a little late to this, but there is a really funny bug/glitch/oddity that I actually came across in my original Persona 5 playthrough. in battle if a character has a status ailment there is a chance where another character will smack it away with a giant paper fan (if that rank of their social link is unlocked). however, there is at least one character where this happens incorrectly, that being Yusuke. sometimes when he goes to slap off the status ailment the fan either won't spawn in, show up, or just overall not appear, making it look like he just hits the other character with his hand. I am not sure if this still happens in Royal, but it happened a lot in my og P5 playthrough as I kept him in my team for a long time edit: side note, I wonder if the reason why Akechi's palace was scraped was because of the lore or because the lore was added to justify why he doesn't have a palace. in the game Mona says that persona users can't have a palace, so Akechi having one would go against that. but that could have been added in to justify why he doesn't have a palace. I wanna lean to the former, that the lore of persona users not being able to have a palace is the reason due to the black mask going to other palaces like they are a persona user and not a palace ruler. though it would have been cool to see how another palace ruler could enter other palaces, maybe via mementos or something. maybe Akechi's connection and motive to wanting to take Shido out would have gone against him being a palace ruler. still, very interesting to think about. also it makes me think that the palaces and personas are a little more hand-in-hand in this game at least but it hurts my brain to think about right now, do wanna cast the idea out though.
So was Akechi supposed to be Mokotos sibling INSTEAD of her sister or in addition to her? And in the version where he gets a calling card, does that suggest he was never going to die in a later palace, but was going to be a permanent reformed hero, or perhaps the semi final palace of the politician guy was going to be Akechis palace instead. A big luxery ship filled with people shrouded in masks.

1:51 My initial thought was that the royal-exclusive encounter with Akechi in Mementos might have been what was left after scrapping Akechi's Palace. But after checking TCRF, it looks like that scrapped dialog isn't even in Royal. I'm not really sure how else that could have fit into the vanilla story. Very interesting video.
EDIT: On reflection, the Phantom thieves would probably keep a low profile at Sae's house after her Palace. It's getting easier to picture this.
I don't mind what they did with Yoshizawa in Royal.
But at the same time, I would have loved getting a P5 FemC.
Also, I can't believe I let myself be shocked about Futaba's dyed hair.
I already knew about Ryuji,
But I just didn't question it with Futaba. (That means Sojiro bought her that dye, and that impresses me.)
I'm still questioning where sojiro gets the money to fund futaba's expensive lifestyle if it's implied that futaba isn't the "steal your credit card" hacker type.
@@caspianchan2371if i recall he has notable savings from the time he worked in government

@@Gamaxp it’s funny to know that even teachers can end up running late to class.
@@TheActualMrLink I had a math teacher in my early school years, who came to school 2 hours later because he was stuck in traffic. This happened 6 times to him while he had our class. Every time we either didnt have anyone come or occassioanally a substitute would come. We also had a physics teacher who always came 15 minutes later to class, not to the school but to class, for no reason.
I'm less interested in Redditor Akechi and more interested in the fact he's a fan of American Hockey
my favorite thing about this video is how the word USELESS is pointing towards Makoto on the thumbnail LMAO
1:56 how could akechi have a palace when he has a persona of his own ?
Well, he wouldnt be the only palace ruler with a persona..
1:21 that could be a reference to the chains of rebellion being an oxymoron

Great video I can not wait for the next one. Also i think i remember seeing Iwai and Taekemi in the loading screens but I think the best ones are the halloween ones where they can dress up as personas
This game has soo many little details I love it!
I think I heard there originally was supposed to be a romance option for Sae, so if Joker was living with her, that would make a lot more sense compared to the final version.
I realized that you could lay on the bench in the velvet room really late in my playthrough, but since it’s seen as a fact here rather than knowledge I feel better about it
Fun Fact 1: The story of the DLC "Repaint Your Heart" for Persona 5 Tactica, plays during the events of the 6th palace (Sae's Palace).
Fun Fact 2: Salmael, the main antagonist of P5T, is voiced by Brandon Keener, the voice actor of Garrus from the Mass Effect trilogy.

I always wondered why Joker chose to wear glasses. Didn't his initial flashback scene show him without glasses? If so, I thought the glasses might've been a way Joker chose to hide his true face from others after his false arrest.
The anime actually shows why. Joker has a problem with authority so he wears glasses to hide his defiance
Bro the Igor just appearing behind mishima actually gave me nightmares
You were right, I already forgot 90% of the info you gave 👍
You're welcome ;3
I always thought the Devil social link was because Ohya was playing Devil’s advocate or something like that
That could be it too!
When you go to the Yongen-Jaya movie theater, there's always Takemi in the room.
Sometimes when a friends talks to you before taking the train, there's a confident in the background waiting for the train (as Hifumi for example).

@@10001vaderthat depends on the exact date too, although it isn't unheard of for mistakes. They had Baofu's age wrong on P3's TV.

As a Yakuza fan i still love the Yakuza game ref that they did 2 times one as your vid said Makoto want to watch Like a Dragon which is Yakuza
and in P5 Strikers that Makoto want to watch "Dragon: Like a Yakuza" which is really are joke for Yakuza 7 is like Dragon Quest so this is like now Dragon Quest but Yakuza and remember in west Yakuza 7 actually name "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" so sweet
I am glad it plays in Tokyo, that was the main reason I got it. Also touching grass in a flashback is not real, by that logic all that people who never go outside do touch grass in their fantasy.

Would be cool to see Akechi's palace and Mishima as a Phantom Thief
3:30 someone says in the game somewhere jokes wears glasses "to look less intimidating"
Neat vid. Another useless fact is you can actually hear a heartbeat playing alongside Life Will Change after sending out a calling card for the heists.
Cool!
@Gamaxp They are the Phantom Thieves of Hearts after all.
1:39 I'm convinced Akechi crashed out because he's a leafs fan.
Akechi being a redditor is completely in tune with his character
maybe a little late to this, but there is a really funny bug/glitch/oddity that I actually came across in my original Persona 5 playthrough. in battle if a character has a status ailment there is a chance where another character will smack it away with a giant paper fan (if that rank of their social link is unlocked). however, there is at least one character where this happens incorrectly, that being Yusuke. sometimes when he goes to slap off the status ailment the fan either won't spawn in, show up, or just overall not appear, making it look like he just hits the other character with his hand. I am not sure if this still happens in Royal, but it happened a lot in my og P5 playthrough as I kept him in my team for a long time
edit: side note, I wonder if the reason why Akechi's palace was scraped was because of the lore or because the lore was added to justify why he doesn't have a palace. in the game Mona says that persona users can't have a palace, so Akechi having one would go against that. but that could have been added in to justify why he doesn't have a palace.
Nice work!
How did I not realize the devil at the crossroads thing?
Babe, wake up. new gamma video just dropped

8:49 Are you sure Mika received a voice in Royal? I just checked Ann's confidant and I never heard anything of such.
WHY DIDN'T THEY USE KASUMI AS IN HONOR OF KOTONE WTF
