Share with someone who needs to know what to do with their medium format film before they ruin it! Thanks for watching! :)
Thanks, this was my first roll of 120 and now I know I've done it properly before sending it off. Hopefully no light leaked in while I had it stored unsealed.
Best of luck and congrats!
you saved me...
i loaded a Kodak for the first time and was only used to the Fuji system wich caused a bad surprise when i tried to seal it.
I got you 💪🏼💪🏼
i shot my first few rolls of medium format film yesterday and i couldn’t figure out how to make it stick. i was in a place with no cell service so i just sorta used the ear pieces of a mask i had in my car to use as a temporary solution until i could figure it out. i have no idea how i came to the realization that i needed to lick it but i did and then i spent the rest of the day thinking i was crazy for licking my film, but it worked for me so i was satisfied. i’m glad this is how you’re supposed to do it though 😂 i didn’t wanna be shooting with someone later down the road and have them think i was a complete psychopath for sealing my film that way hahaha. thank you!
Yeah I definitely had to double take on my first roll too! I knew many people were gonna be confused
Awesome video!! Im new to film and it's really hard to learn a lot of these things without seeing someone do it, so your videos have been super helpful!
Thanks so much for sharing this knowledge. I appreciate it.
Thanks for watching!
You’re a king for this
Of course 🙏🏼
This is what I've been needing😂I've been using tape to secure it because I was worried about it but now I shall lick!
Glad to help you mate!
Perfect tutorial thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Nice, that helped a lot!
Thank you!
You're a saint. Had never shot any 120 other than Fuji Pro 400H and was SUPER confused when going to seal Gold 200... phew. Thank you!
Its so confusing for no reason! Glad to have helped
Thank you so much man. I was scared to unroll my roll😂 Your video was so helpful
Glad I can help. I remember struggling with my first roll!
bless you, tysm
Thank you!
Thank you for creating this! It was the only video I’ve found on this topic that was ACTUALLY helpful!
Of course! Thank you
Thank you! I would not have figured out that you have to lick it to make it stick. 😅I just put a little tape over it before. This is only my..third roll of 120 so not too bad.
It confusedme so bad
If you can see the last shot still in the chamber after you have wind all the way until the film clicks, does that mean that the whole roll is lost? I winded all the way until the mag couldn’t move any more and the rest if the roll was winded but some paper was still on the other spool :/
I don't think all of your shots are lost. There is a decent amount of paper backing so hopefully if you don't see any film its mostly light type. I would say the ones at the beginning are definitely safe
i shot my first roll a couple of days ago. i thought the roll didnt come with a seal so i just put in the box, into my camera bag, straight to the courier, told my dev lab about this and hoping for the best. it was just yesterday that i found out that the tape thing of my roll got stuck on the backplate of my tlr. 😆
Best of luck with that and other rolls
You can use a light adhesive tape NOT duct tape but something not that sticky like painterstape
What if I didn't roll fold the little slit part before rolling it?
Should be fine!
@@KylerSteele Thank you so much.
Thanks for this vid! I had been sending my film to a lab for a few months still being unsure if I was doing it correctly.
It wasn’t until I physically dropped off at a lab when the technician approached me and said “hey! I wanted to talk to you about sealing this.” He explained to me that sealing it improperly could lead to light leaks, as well as risking your film having a torn sticker mark on the first shot (both of which had happened).
But he still didn’t tell me where the proper fold/seal mark was, so I had to find this video to finally know how to do this the correct way. For some reason it was not intuitive to me, and I was always scared of unrolling it to the point it would be exposed.
I was so lost the first time! Not as easy as 35mm film! Happy it helped!
I’ve shot 120 film for years, and couldn’t figure out why it needs to be folded under. I’d say you don’t really need to do that. I put my exposed rolls (and ideally unexposed as well) in a metal or plastic case. Useful to protect it from random objects in your pack pack or dust, though probably unnecessary. Just for piece of mind…
definitely don't need to but its a good practice i think
Has anyone tried 120 Shanghai B&W film recently? I use their 4x5" film and like it.
The reason I am asking is I want to order some 120 Shanghai to try but not if they still are having trouble with the backing. If you are not aware, a few years ago Shanghai had a problem with the ink on the paper backing that would transfer to the emulsion of the film while it was all rolled up. The ink of the words and numbers would soak in and not come out during development! In the final B&W prints, you could faintly read those words and numbers.
Thank you.

Is it really that difficult for manufacturers to print "Lick other side" on the tab so that first-timers don't mess it up?
I was hoping the same thing! So easy to ruin the first roll
Wish I have seen this one before I ruined my first roll of Ilford 🥺
Say less 🥲
Ok why hasn't anyone told me that I gotta lick my finished rolls to seal it
It really should say
Hmmm tastes bad
Yeah it does haha
