"This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality, embrace this moment remember, we are eternal al this pain is an illusion" To me that's the greatest finale to any song. Tool has saved me many trips to a psychologist.
“Celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing. This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment, remember, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion” I listened to this song while in the hospital for 3 months with a TBI ( Traumatic Brain Injury). This song was very deep to me. I had it tattooed on my arm.
I love watching people react to this when they do it properly with Parabol first. That ethereal, metaphysical priming. centering. And I sit back relax, and wait for it to hit. They distill it. Decant it. Present it. And then you taste it. BOOM! Mindgasm. Everybody jumps.
Great reaction. As a huge Tool fan I can say all their music is left for interpretation. Their music is to be used as a tool (hence the name) for whatever is going on in your life. Use it in whatever way you need to. Use it to grow, open up, release, etc. That being said, I interpret it as there being a collective unconscious where we are all there. Whether it's a state of mind, another dimension, whatever you believe in. I understand it as him saying our bodies feel pain but in this other reality, maybe the real reality, we don't feel pain, we're connected and bodies are just used to be on this Earth but we move on afterwards. I don't know. It's deep. I could go on for hours about what it could be or interpreted as. That's the beauty of Tool. You can always find new meanings. When my grandmother and father passed, I already had been listening to Tool for ages. Yet those same songs had new meaning all of sudden. I saw another side of the lyrics. Beautiful.
Watching all of these emotional reactions to TooL is like getting to relive some of the past 38 years of my life. They are and will always be the true Maestros to my life. Beautiful.
Do Stinkfist. That was the first 'hard' song I ever heard. My being 15 yrs old living in the middle of nowhere Kansas. Somehow I managed to pick up a Wichita radio station, T-95, at 2:30 am, +220 miles away, ridiculous antenna strung around the room. I recorded 2 hours of playtime on cassette, but hearing Tool for the first time, after only having access to gross pop music all my life... I will never forget that feeling. What a song to start on...
As a Tool Lieutenant, I'm going to have to take you in for reprogramming. One does not tell someone to listen Right in Two without listening to Intension first. Like Parabol/Parabola, the song is Intension/Right in Two.
"this pain is an illusion" is the only text I have tattoo'd on my body with over 20 tattoos. The only words you will ever read on me for it was the reminder I needed many times in my life. It will hold true and cut deep for me forever.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT you don't need anything to experience Tool. It's incredible no matter what. .but when you smoke you definitely can have an out of body experience with Tool!
Tools music is completely unique to them. Nobody has been able to copy it although some have tried Chevelle/Earshot. I think it’s just a friendly reminder of how much we seem to take for granted in our youth during this life. And this song reminds you of how we are all not alone in this, we all live and die together. And that’s what we are going through right now is very finite. For when we leave our bodies, this will be nothing but a faint memory.
First reaction video of yours I watched. Nice thoughtful reaction. Not a whole lot more to add really, you summed it up well. It is certainly a relaying of spiritual revelations in regards to our souls being eternal.. we are pure consciousness, not our minds, our thoughts or our bodies. Certainly one of their most enlightening songs. To me, parabol feels like the calm, quiet, reflective state of being, where these truths are revealed.... and parabola is the "holy shit" revelation and expression of it. I also am profoundly effected by the lyric of "we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" - as well as "recognize this as a holy gift, and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing" - I'm an artist and actually owe a great deal of credit to that one line and the impact it had on me to remind that life itself, and the chance to be alive and experience it is in fact a gift. 5min 57sec into the two part song combined - the lyric “parable” is heard - “Twirling round with this familiar parable”. I believe the first part entitled “Parabol” is actually a homonym to “Parable”. I feel the first part is indeed a “Parable”, which is a story told or read that has a deep meaning or important life lesson that does not just jump right out and say what you should be learning from the story. A “Parabola” - lets skip the math; but, it has a starting point which moves in somewhat of an oval shape, infinitely. So I feel the human experience depicted in this master piece paints a musical picture of the duality of our existence - our mortal body and eternity. It’s beautiful.

It is the metaphorical journey to a particular point, and then back home, along a similar path perhaps, but in a different direction, after which the traveler is essentially, irrevocably changed." you definitely hit on the dualism between the self reflection of a parabolic mirror, and riding the cosmic mule of self reflection. keep up the good work!

No . Parabola is the structure of the Universe. The morning. Your Consciousness. Stuck in a timeless loop. Understand, you are a Consciousness stuck in the Now and Here. All of your thoughts and emotions are based on your fears. Love is far away, yet I will find you there.
My take on the song has always been that it’s an account of consciousness from the “dualist” school of thought. Human consciousness is a major frontier of modern science. We don’t know what it is, why we have it, where it comes from. But there are two major schools of thought on the matter: “materialism” which claims that consciousness is an emergent property of a complex brain (i.e. When a species’ brain meets some threshold of complexity consciousness kicks on) and “dualism” which states the mind/spirit/consciousness are separate from the body, some kind of spiritual force that is perhaps fundamental to the universe, like gravity or electromagnetism. So, to me, the song is about us (as in our consciousness or spirit) are eternal, that you, me, everyone who experiences consciousness, have existed and will continue to exist before and after the meat cage we happen to be inhabiting at this moment. And perhaps when this body dies, we’ll move on to experience another. There are many cases of near death experiences that describe a sense of just being an eternal part of the universe. I don’t necessarily subscribe to this philosophy. But I do know that since we know almost nothing about consciousness it would be intellectually irresponsible to claim anything with certainty. How I figure the term “parabola” fits in is that, on a graph, both mirrored parts of the parabola will approach their respective axis forever, infinitely, and never reach it. They are eternal, never reaching the threshold of the axis or a terminus of any sort. Their approach goes on forever. Anyway. That’s how I’ve interpreted this one. Maybe someone will read this whole thing. Maybe not haha

to me its a representation of life the way a Yogi/Yogini would describe it. In order to get enlightened you gotta live in the now, through experience you can touch another dimension of life that you simply cannot imagine, but certainly feel. The Ultimate Reality is called Brahman and the illusionary reality is called Samsara, created by Atman or Self. In other words, we create our own illusions, but in order to perceive past that we must experience life fully in the now beyond the 5 sensory senses. Thats enlightenment and to me, thats what this song describes.
That song and your perfect reaction gave me chills!! Try Tool Third Eye fan made by Sentientmind, please! The ending of this fan made directly leads into Third Eye

When I was younger I listened to Tool to fall asleep... it made for some very interesting dreams.
You should watch their Official 'Parabol/Parabola' Video.. Now that's something you need to 'Mentally Prepare' for.. 💯

You got it bud! Better trippin balls.
Tool isnt an army but a philosophy. My opinion
Definitely check out "Jambi" by Tool
Tool Army is here! To me it's about the acceleration and deceleration of life.
to me its a representation of life the way a Yogi/Yogini would describe it.
Great insights. Thank you.
Wow, you need to react to more Tool. If this song gets you thinking , lol
